Yeah cute... Office politics... If my boss tells me to do something stupid, things can get destroyed in spectacular fashion. I have to stand my ground. I'm not going to destroy millions of dollars worth of equipment, because he has an overinflated opinion of himself.

A bit of discretion is required. There’s a dichotomy to most of these principles. Obviously, stand up to your boss on stuff that’s important. It’s equally as important to play the game a bit so you can build trust with your boss so he will listen to you on the important stuff.

That's not what this video is talking about. If you're newly promoted into a position, you damn well do the process as you've been shown unless instructed /hired for otherwise - especially if the last person in that role is now your boss. The organisation was presumably successful before you were in that role - don't change it if it doesn't need it. At least not immediately: prove you are capable first and then improve it. The situation you're describing sounds very different and I'm sure there's a video or two on that, too.
