The original Colin Cantwell x-wing design was a lot different than what we got onscreen. But what if the Cantwell version wasn't just Star Wars concept art, but was actually Star Wars canon?

"There's a legend throughout the outer rim. A legend of a single strange X-formed fighter that could knock out entire Imperial convoys in the blink of an eye. No-one knows who pilots that thing, if it even has a pilot at all. Some believe it's a bounty hunter sharpening their skills, others say it's some deranged pilot high off some spice. But there are rumors that no living being resides within that cockpit. Just a tormented soul that lost everything to the Empire, and is cursed to roam the galaxy in a constant state of vengeance... " The birth of a beautiful Star Wars story, one that both pays homage to the original prototype that started it all, and plays beautifully into the lore of a galaxy far far away. Incredible storytelling, and beautiful execution of presenting it.

Considering how Disney's Lucasfilm has treated the IP so far, I'd say it is much superior to the "official" crap. And yes, that includes "official" stuff that allegedly turned out somewhat decent by accident. I for one tuned out after TLJ and vowed not to give them any or my time or money until that company is purged top-to-bottom of the ideologues ho have been holding it hostage since the takeover. Only then is there a chance to put an end to the character-assasination of legacy characters - or what is left of them at that point.
@MegaZeta

@@corinthianimperialstudios704 LOL absolutely not. The biggest problem with the director of The Last Jedi is that he was too big a fan of the franchise. No distance. That's how you end up with crummy fan fiction instead of good movies: people more eager to play with the toys than to make quality all-ages cinema. The toys should be sold to kids by the movie; the movie shouldn't be an overgrown kid fan playing with toys.

The mind-machine interface reminds me of the Copperheads from Timothy Zahn’s Conquerors series. In those books, human Copperheads have implants that let them effectively “inhabit” their starfighters and easily outmatch anyone else in the galaxy, but the sensation of flying like that is so overwhelming that they become addicted and unable to live normal lives. The sensor data of their ships are fed directly into their brains, and apparently the awareness they get from that makes existing outside the cockpit seem unbearable. I’d imagine that Vantis experienced a similar but more extreme version of that, becoming so integrated into the x-wing that he could no longer leave it.

It still amazes me that EC Henry hasn't been hired or at least contracted by Lucasfilm. You do such amazing work, excellent modeling and even better lore. You managed to write this into a very good story reason for why the Empire went with Seinar Fleet Systems for their fighters over the X-Wing, bridged it into a reason for why Luke was so easily able to just hop into a fighter, alongside the traditional "He used the Force", and finally gave an awesome Star Wars ghost story. It reminds me abit of the song Dawson's Christian, a rare sci fi ghost ship story, I love how you executed it, giving it a real basis and letting the legend grow from there. I always love seeing a new video because I know it's going to be more thought out than the entire sequel trilogy.

@irregularassassin6380
@irregularassassin6380 Жыл бұрын
@@thevoid112 Knowing EC Henry, it's probably both at the same time. Considering that the skyhook facility was Incom's cutting edge design skunkworks, and was equipped for the development of military craft, the U-Wing might have originated as some sort of stealth bomber or shuttle. The escaping engineers may not have grabbed enough "Swallow" design tapes to continue their stealth tech development from exile, but the spaceframe could have been solid enough to continue its development as a shuttle. Combine their work there with the exploration of variable geometry tech from the X-Wing project and you get the U-Wing. Suddenly, Incom is able to put a shuttle (perfectly legal) with variable geometry into the market and gather data on how that tech performs in the real world. From there they could make sure their highly important snubfighter design avoids the initial pitfalls of variable geometry tech, whatever those might be, because they've learned from the U-Wing project. Finally, selling the "U-Wing" further helps to disguise the "X-Wing" as a legal spaceframe. The pre-existing Y-Wing is an outdated bomber that was only okay in its hayday, the U-Wing is a perfectly legal shuttle ... maybe the X-Wing really is some kind of racing craft?...

Dude, this video is dope. I never knew about this original design, and your idea for how it could be incorporated into Star Wars lore as the space pilot equivelant of The Stranger from Fallout, with the added bonus of it being a guy fused to his ship, is just plain awesome.

As a preteen, when Star Wars first came out, I loved building models. I would sit for hours imagining the technical side of the vehicle I was currently working on. The depth and detail in which you delve is far greater than even I could imagine. You are a true testament to the real fans. This is what makes Star Wars such a great story. Kudos.

Holy SHIT this video was brilliant. Your star wars storytelling is world class, and adding the music, animations and art just made this a brilliant watch. As the movies are over and ive slowly lost interest in the TV shows especially after boba fett, ive drifted away from watching star wars youtube. But you remain one of my favourite channels of all time. Dont let this get to your head too much, but you are so damn good at this. Well done dude!

And you know, *actually* interesting and hardcore in tune with what Star Wars felt like before the dark times came. Thank you and as always a very enjoyable piece of work! Edit: Forgot to say that this story is also *very, very cool!*

It's a shame that Disney doesn't have anyone as talented as you guys developing Star Wars projects. This brief story outline was better than any completed $300 million disaster their teams have managed to churn out. Your team also managed to capture the fun and excitement that we have not really seen since the origional trilogy. Well done!

Let me just say - This story is absolutely PHENOMENAL and has been 100% cemented into my mind as what actually happened in the Star Wars universe. I always wondered how Incom went from serving the Republic in the Clone Wars to being the main front-line fighter supplier for the Rebellion, and you absolutely NAILED the explanation! The Ralph McQuarrie-esque paintings to drive the story were the cherry on top. I also noticed some Ace Combat parallels, intentional or not. The mind-interface for the control of the X-Wing prototype is extremely similar to the COFFIN (Connection For Flight Interface) system featured in Ace Combat 3. The computer that was developed from the pilot’s flight data is very reminiscent of the data provided for the drones by the ace pilot Mihaly in Ace Combat 7. All in all: GREAT job, EC Henry, and everyone that worked on this project. Absolute 10/10!!

Amazing. Lore-wise, I find that the existence of this technique of using flight data from an exceptional pilot to design a flight computer opens interesting questions. One wonders what kind of progress could be made from recording Darth Vader's flight data, for instance.

I see what you are saying. I would think the empire would already have Annakin's data when he flew during the clone wars as well as many other pilots, so some of it could be incorporated and already be in Incom's hands, but this data was gathered differently through the mind interface, which does permanent brain damage. I am not sure the cost would be worth the price seeing as computer simulation should be able to incorporate old with the new.

Not going to lie. Your "Fan Lore" is perfect. It fits so well into the framework of Star Wars and in particular feel so much like the original movies. So much so it's almost as if it was actual backstory written in the early days of Star Wars by Lucas himself on a tangent to augment the universe he had built and the iconic fighter he created. All I can do is say it reminded me of why I fell in love with Star Wars back when we really only had the 3 originals and a dozen or so books. For that I thank you. Also, as others have said, the visuals add so much and make it feel like it is truely part of the original trilogy story and RotJ in particular.

Bonus Chapter (inspired by your amazing work): In the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War, Incom began working on evolving the x-wing to create a production model closer to the original design. Thanks to evolving technology, and a huge increase in budget thanks to funding from the New Republic, they were able to do just that. Incorporating a split-wing design for the s-foils to reduce the fighter’s weight, upgrading the droid port to house the more efficient BB-units as well as the still-functional Rx-units, and developing a flight computer that included much more of Vantis’ original telemetry, they created a fighter that was faster and more nimble than ever, and was equipped with a targeting system so sophisticated it even allowed pilots to target individual ground level infantry units. The new ship, dubbed the T-70, quickly became the most effective fighter of the New Republic fleet. After some 30 years of peace, the Republic senate receive an ominous transmission traced back to the Unknown Regions from an unknown source calling themselves ‘The Grey Escapist’ that simply reads: “First Order”. Initially ignored by the Republic, General Leia Organa secretly contacted Incom to increase production of the T-70s as part of an effort to form the strike team eventually known as the Resistance. Although the Grey Escapist was never heard from again, a number of pilots believe they saw an unusually shaped x-wing shooting down First Order ships in the skies above Exegol.

The test pilot's consciousness fused to the flight computer of the X-wing prototype via neural interface, his body long dead, just a rotted skeleton in a flightsuit in the cockpit, out for relentless vengeance for the Empire which not only destroyed the company he worked for and perhaps even killed friends, family members and love interests of his, but also damned him to this cursed existence. That's such a damn cool story idea for a movie, an entire short series or comic and potential plot hook for an RPG adventure! Maybe the single best piece of original Star Wars lore in recent memory. I really hope anyone except Disney/Lucasfilm picks that up and makes something real out of it!

Nah; there's no way any other corporation would ever collaborate with the Empire for decimating Incom just for not winning a contract. *They* would have been the Rebellion. Legends made sense in that nationalizing corporations was a reasonable response to the lack of restrictions that resulted in the Clone Wars in the first place. Most corporations would empathize with that. All the while providing a subtle tidbit of social commentary. While this lore doesn't have much to say except not to run a government like a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

I have removed the rock I’ve been living under and I can hardly believe my eyes and ears. This was incredible. Subbed, liked, shared. You’ve got some serious talent in your storytelling and narrative concepts. Much of the development occurred with very realistic and even natural circumstances, which for a work of science fiction, can be the difference between the suspension of disbelief and the complete abandonment of relativity. Long story short, you absolutely nailed this and as everyone else has been saying here, this is as good if not better than canon material.
