The crankcase is a two piece, the crank bearings are sandwiched between both half’s. It’s a lot harder to cut the base of the cylinder and the squish.

I'll admit.. I have their 3510 for a pack-in / trail / brushing saw and have got my money's worth out of it several times over. I removed the dividers from the air intake side, ground on the dividing block to de-isolate the strato's some, and a healthy muffler mod. Haven't touched the actual cylinder. Super light. Great running saw for 35cc. I admire a tiny saw that I can bury the whole 16 in oak and it doesn't just flat out give up.

I did the same plus ported the cylinder on mine and was amazed. I had been running a .043 chain on it now it eats with a full chisel .050 love the 3510

@@mikemckinney6058 What sprockets interchange? I honestly wanted to swap mine out for 325 for smoothness on the whippy stuff. Mine tends to get used as a brush wacker a lot when I'm doing fencelines and 325 is smoother for that. Had a heck of a time finding someone who knows anything about what sprockets from other models fit it. Any leads/tips on porting? I have to break mine down to find a small air leak and give it another deep clean and i'm debating messing with it a little more. I've ran mine enough that it's time to break it down for the SECOND time to blow everything out. I've put a TON of hours on it. Love that little saw.

@@mattfleming86 I have googled myself silly trying to figure out what 1/4 pitch sprocket would interchange with it. I think the cs-355 will but not 100% on it. Monkeybeaver sales the kits. I’m gonna start ordering parts I’ll keep you updated.

@@mattfleming86 there’s a chevron shaped ridge in the exhaust port. I just took that out and port matched the gasket. On the intake side I knife edged where the ports come together.

@@mikemckinney6058 My hero. I opened the internal baffles up on mine (drilled some holes in the middle baffle plate) and swaged open the outer hole. I completely removed the deflector on the front. It's still not really loud. I remember looking at that protrusion/chevron and thinking "that's an EPA nubbin" 😂 I'll fool around with it. Thanks. A bunch.

Nice gains Joe! If you keep dyno’ing and modifying Echo’s, maybe they’ll relent and start publishing hp ratings in the States, like they do in the UK in kw.

Published hp numbers mean nothing, Stihl claimed 3.8 on the ms290 in real life it was more like 3.2

Thanks so much for doing this! I'm sure clamshell stratos aren't really your favorite. But, nice to know how you ported it, and what the results were. I could see what you did with the exhaust, and lower transfers. But, you didn't take the caps off, right? Because they are glued on so tight. Did you fill the outside with epoxy, and then reshape/raise the ports? Or, did you just raise them a little, without epoxy on the outside?
@nseric1233 Жыл бұрын
Someone needs to start making slightly taller pistons for saws. This will get rid of the need to machine cylinders, you would mill the new piston until it fits just right instead.
@haydenshores99432 ай бұрын

Joe.....what would happen if you replaced the transfer caps with a flat piece of metal? Would it make things worse by slowing down the intake charge?
@dynojoemods2764 Жыл бұрын
It would probably go backwards. Too many open cavities to disrupt the air flow.

Great video as always, is possible too fit stihl 500i fuel injection to another chainsaw say a husqvarna 390xp? Cheers Kevin down under Australia
@zack6892 Жыл бұрын
I've wondered the same for a while now except not so much the 500i setup since it is pretty restricted from stihl in what can be done with it. I have wondered how something like a lectron carb would do if retrofit to a chainsaw. They tend to be fairly universal in regards to the displacement range in which they will operate. It would be an interesting project trying to get it to mount though haha.

Well it sure sounds better that's for sure. Hard to beat the 4910 in that department though. In regards to performance though definitely some good results you do well with most of the saws you get into. Enough to commit to a clamshell saw though? I guess we'll see.

Why are that saw called a clam shell..🤔🙂
@RoyFabian2 ай бұрын
If you look at the cylinder when he takes it apart, half the crankshaft journal is on the bottom of the cylinder, and the other half bolts to the bottom, like a big end cap. A non clam shell, the two case halves are pressed onto either side of the crankshaft and the cylinder bolts on top, like a motorcycle engine.
