Echo Bay Lake Mead Extreme Drought Conditions Check out the extreme low water conditions at Echo Bay located at the north end of Lake mead. The abandoned Echo Bay Lodge and empty campgrounds. I was there in '97 with my wife. Beautiful place, had lunch and walked around the property to the docks. Loved the massive houseboats. The water lines were very noticeable back then. Cheers 🇨🇦

Sad about the businesses and homes that are empty/vandalised, or losing value quickly because of the levels of the lake dropping and marinas closing. May be worse later if the lake continues to drop unchecked. Also if anyone does kayak, please be sure to notify others where you plan to be in the lake, and when you plan to be back. Very importantly, wear a certified personal floatation device. An unfortunate kayaker lost his life this past week kayaking in a thunderstorm there at Lake Mead. A very sad situation and no life preserver on him!

I agree! Very stark, apocalyptic quality with not only the barren, sharp mountains and the obvious shell of a large lake, but the empty(perfectly landscaped and paved/striped) parking areas, picnic tables you could walk up to today and have lunch on. I would go there now on purpose, but probably not before - I prefer it quieter, less crowded - but yeah, cool eerie vibe, fer sure!

Very sad to see. I used to love bringing our boat out here and having breakfast in the restaurant at the hotel. In the 80's, the water level was just below the back of the hotel and it had a beautiful marina. The hotel has been closed down for many years now.

Thanks Russ, I’ve been watching all the Lake Mead updates on KZbin, waiting for someone to show the Echo Bay campgrounds area. I camped there for a week back in 2017… it was really low back then. I think they had just kicked all of Bundy’s cattle off the range. A whole lot has changed around that neck of the desert! I’ll bet the wild donkey’s aren’t real happy about the water situation either! Another great update, we appreciate you! 👍🏼

I'm 50 lived here off n on 20 plus years. Graduated from here it's nuts seeing everything happening in such a short time. It's gutting really. What gets me the most is they are going to develop all the way to the top of Charleston all the way to state line as the lake is shrinking to desperation levels. Idk bla bla lol When I was 18 19 yrs we were catching 3 to 10 pounders off the banks. Silver black repala. Anchovies The wash would get crazy boils Jet ski cove hole 33. Those 40 plus hogs were pretty common ppl with boats. What me and a bud would do is fish for beer at the bait shop buy the doods bait hike out to our spot get all the lanterns close to water chum out some anchovies cast out with silver black rapala. Worked pretty well. Always had another line out at the bottom. Great vids appreciate the updates. Let's hope for more rain heavy snow this winter

Wow, I use to water ski with my older sister and her husband. He had a brand new Sea Ray boat he kept at the dry boat docks which also had a convenience store. The hotel was a Holiday Inn. This was from 1979 to 1985. In 1983 the lake was filled all the way to the top and it was blue, clear, and cool. Such a beautiful lake then. Hopefully, we get some heavy rains for the next years to help out. My sister's husband just passed away last Christmas Eve. RIP.

It would take many years of heavy rain fall or snow melt to bring the lake back and I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon. What fell the other day has probably already had the equivalent or more evaporate.

This sad to see. I was in Las Vegas in the fall of 2010 and we took a day trip to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We crossed over the Hoover Dam not long before the new elevated road was opened to the public. I remember seeing the white line on the shores of the river near the dam and was told by someone that it indicated what the water level used to be - I was shocked at how low it was - can't imagine what it's like now 12 years later.

I spent some time camping at Echo Bay back in 2019. The lodge was abandoned already back then. I had a lot of fun hiking in the Mohave desert. Echo Bay is not far from Valley of Fire State Park and there are other red rock areas within easy driving distance. I also hiked down to various coves along that peninsula you drove down and swam in Lake Mead. I think I'd better hurry up if I want to go and swim there again.
