Nice video, Russ. During the summer, Red Rock Canyon campground, just West of Las Vegas on Route 159 (Charleston Avenue inside the Las Vegas City limits) is closed and they put up a fence so you can't reach the campsites. Overton and Echo Bay campgrounds east of the City remained open the last time I visited but spending the day in 115 degree F heat is not fun. I used to climb Mount Charleston where there are 2 or 3 different campgrounds (notably Lee Canyon) where the temperature is more bearable (maximum around 85 deg.). I hope you will film a little inside Valley of Fire to show us some of the beautiful rock formations. Safe travel !! RICHARD

It’s absolutely amazing how long people are holding on to the lake and boating. At what point will boaters pack up and do something else with their time? Are there no other lakes anywhere? I swear the water will be so shallow a toddler can stand up in it and they’ll still be boaters trying to get their boat in the puddle.

They used to rent the houseboats at echo bay and Temple bar back in the day. I thought for sure Callville was all but closed by now. Go figure. It was all you could do to find a beach on the north side of Sandy point when they rented them out of Temple bar. I think the last time I saw a rental in Greggs basin was 2005. We would often see these things heading up past Pearce Ferry back in 83 and 84 when you the river delta was past quartermaster point. Good stuff as usual Russ, keep up the good work.

We manufactured and assembled "Floating Sanitation Facilities" (marine floating toilets) for the National Park Service 14 years ago at Calville Bay. The water level was close to the Marina Store at that time. I recently viewed our $1.5 million dollars worth of bathrooms beached, vandalized, and stripped, sitting on land where the Park Service left them. Pretty sad.

With a day left, the water level has dropped about 2-1/4" in the past month which likely has been helped a bit by sporadic rains in the region during the past two weeks. Hooray for the little bits of rain (sorry about Vegas flooding) that have fallen in the region.
@jaimemaldonado41522 жыл бұрын
Back when the dam was built water demand in the area was many times lower than it is now and it took over six years to fill it up. Every little rain we get is better then no rain at all though .
@donnydizzle27812 жыл бұрын
Sadly it will probably take about 6 months of straight rain to get this back close to the way it was, that is not going to happen so just hope for the best..

Up 1.5" from yesterday due to rain in the region I am happy to say. At least delaying loss for a time.
@michaelgarrity60902 жыл бұрын
The only thing that is going to save this lake is about ten years of heavy winter snowfall in the region of the Colorado River headwaters. A few good rains that lead to flooding is only going to buy the lake a little more time but not enough to make much difference. The lake will soon be effectively GONE!

From the brief drone footage you can see the massive marina literally barely floating in a puddle of water. Is there any room to push the marina out farther into the lake when an island is rising out of the water preventing everything but narrow structures from becoming landlocked?

@jc1979af2 жыл бұрын
There is still enough lake to sail around on. I assume that some people rent dock space, so they keep their boats there. Also some boat owners don't have a place to take their boat. They would either have to take it back to their house or store it in lot. This is especially true for house boats.
