This is the escape from tarkov equivalent to 4x strategy games I stg. I love high skill cap/knowledge games. I love when I get on a game there is a new challenge that I have to overcome in a variety of ways and all solutions can only be applied in certain ways. I found this game from Echo randomly coming onto my YT ALGO and I have fell in love in 2 months I have 260 hours I play every time I get a chance

This was the perfect place to stick the oxygen mask tutorial (digging for reed fiber). In fact, as far as I'm concerned, it is really the only time the oxygen mask is useful and is rarely used. I hope Klei comes up with more uses for the crafting table. Maybe something like shovels or paint brushes or items required to maximize the output of the masterwork process for each branch in the skill tree. anything to make the poor lonely crafting table somewhat useful.

I found a mod that gives your oxygen masks eye protection! It's not a full suit so temp still affects them but they no longer get irritated eyes etc. Very useful early game when I don't wanna commit a full suit and don't want the stress from itchy eyes when clearing out those first few swamps
@adolfodef
@adolfodef Жыл бұрын
@@odyx0 Ideally that mod should add a new recipes to make an "advanced mask" (placed either on a new research, or added to an existing one before the full exosuit); using a normal mask that is not ruined plus either glass, plastic or diamond. -> The dupe must be able to see through the mask. [Theory] (The "transparent" helmet of a suit is an abstraction of a much more cumbersome self_closing, negative pressure sealed, "periscope", using only polished ores & opaque reed fibers). This is why untrained dupes are so slow with exosuits [ open periscope, look around for 1 second, closed, move/action_while_blinded, open & look again... ]
@adolfodef
@adolfodef Жыл бұрын
I find the use of masks as a "fallback" method to access the outside ofvthe colony (when there is a lack of power, oxygen or not_broken suits) fundamental to guarantee ACCESS to places a dupe would never reach otherwise because of breathing interrupting travel. . The difficult part is to create a system of sensors, logic gates & powered doors that is reliable to "unlock" access to the alternative exit ONLY when no functional, charged suits are available after a while [since brief instances of "all in use" or "power/oxygen" intermitency should not trigger all dupes going outside with masks].

32:00 A good explanation, however it is also worth noting for consideration that if the water sieve has no filtration material or loses power, water will bypass it and go to the overflow, in your example, the thimble reed, for this reason it can be smart to put a storage tank infront of the seiv and overflow from there instead. This will mitigate the rare condition where you lose all your water because you ran out of sand/regolith/power for a long period of time. Naturally this can be done on the inverse, storing clean water as a buffer. There are other more advanced ways of using bridges to do the same thing and save space, but as this is a beginners guide, we will ignore those.

In my humble opinion, the game should start with a "bottle_sized_liquid_tank" [2x1 tiles high_wide] (200kg) as part of the basic liquid research that gives pipes. -> It would fulfill the same rol than the tiny battery. It does NOT have automation ports. This way, you get the same effect than building 20 extra long pipes.

The thing with slime is that if you don't dig it, then no problem. You can with a little care harvest a lot from slime biomes, including gold ore, a lot of water to purify and thimble reed seeds from the buried objects. Which are after all very visible. There's always a spot with sand and sandstone. You entered the biome right by one. You're usually almost guaranteed to find a thimble reed seed there. Players should just take care with building ladders and tiles next to slime too. The slimelung germs tend to seep into such buildings, which will generate purifying errands, and it can easily become a major time sink for dupes with tidying priority. Also. One of my favourite topics.. "The Janitor". You can put a dispenser without the sweep only task, but behind a door that only "The Janitor" can pass through. On the other hand the dropoff point can be behind another gate that only "The Janitor" doesn't have access to pass through. EZ peasy super super squeezy.

This point right here is where I can confidently get to, but I'm not as familiar with the process and systems of getting into the next biomes, so I'm eager to see how you handle that! I'd even be curious to see a series on how you handle entry into each biome and using the resources to your advantage, i.e. what you do to tame the critters, ect. Happy gaming!

I'm not new to watching this game but i am very inexperience and bad at playing and im watching this playthrough and doing every step and ive gotten the furthest ive ever gotten in one playthrough with this its so helpful, HOWEVER im trying to follow it well, as i dont know any other way, but my natural Thimble reed was underwater in a cool steam vent, so as you can imagine my excursion to try and gather them didnt go well, first try was just digging to it, grabbing it and running, 2 dupes died. reload previous save, i tried using a thermo aquatuner and separate power grid to cool it down, Aquatuner immediately overheated and 2 dupes died. THIRD TRY flooded my base many dupes died, Fourth try? i let the process be a bit slower, my pod blueprint came in and it was a thimble reed seed package, i am absolutely raging lmao. srsly though this series is insane and im having so much fun being able to play knowing what im doing. All love brother
@adolfodef
@adolfodef Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was a "cursed" randomly generated map_seed. . The best solution is to build tiles from above diagonally (slowly pushing away the hot water in the other side, building around the reeds), until they are isolated from the vent. -> Then build a 2 tall corridor/dump_tank below the isolated reeds, digging up & running away. Once only "splashes" of water remain, dupes can run getting themselves wet & hot (but NOT burning, because each foot_tile only has grams of water, while their legs have many thousands of grams). . Dig/unroot the fiber plants , collect their seeds, store them safely. . Profit.

[New Update]: New type of "order". . Select an object (including the "bottles" containing liquids or gases) & then TARGET a valid location where it can "sit" (dupes will move it there). . Since multiple bottles of the same liquid "merge" into a bigger bottle, a row of 9 tiny bottle liquids (a few kg each) can "converge" on the 5th by a dupe standing there without moving. . If then this bigger bottle is moved 9 tiles to where the 14th tiny bottle BEFORE giving the orders to "converge" bottles 10th to 18th on the 14th [repeats] it creates a "train" that even a single dupe can move in one single journey [instead of going back & forth]. -> The final Biggest Bottle can be split between duplicants if necesary, moving it next to the plants that consume it using each hauler dupe MAX carrying capacity (only then the locsl farmers should irrigate each plant by tiny ammounts whenever necesart).

@EchoRidgeGaming

I am not 100% sure what you are asking, but... only one element can exist in a tile at a time. So when water comes into a tile, it pushes the oxygen away.

@@EchoRidgeGaming mb, I suck at wording lol In some games, if you have a gas or liquid (Minecraft is best example!) And you place a solid block on a non solid (dirt on water in MC) it voids that non solid resource. So I was wondering if ONI does that too, or if it pushes those "particles" into a new tile where there's room?
@adolfodef
@adolfodef Жыл бұрын
@@platoniccanine In ONI, a single drop of water (1 gram), occupies an entire 1 tile, equal to 1 cubic meter (1000 liters); this is the same for 1 Millon grams of water (1 literal ton). Because dupes can not swim (they fall like rocks, even on liquid magma) & they can only breathe on the second tile over a solid of some kind; they may asphixiate if there is a tiny film of oil on the ground with another tiny layer of water on top. -> This is a game quirk from the abstraction of complex physics for perfirmance/ludic reasons [reality is boring]. Trivia: Some of this "super-viscosity" issues with air & water is experienced in real life by diminute insects (bees, ants, or smaller) at those small scales at sea level pressure [flight may be imposible for some at high altitudes in the mountains, or they get tired quickly by the lack of oxygen & extra effort from moving less air].

Add an automation switch (green/red button), so you can instantly enable it (while "ejecting" non-perishables) to allow dupes to move a lot of new food "unlocked" by digging through a new zone. -> The new "move item here" order can help by moving all non-perishables to a non-ice tile in an ice biome, then constructing an ice thermalshift plate on it (insta_melts), over & over until it does not anymore (guaranteed all non-perishables to be -1°C). After that, they can be added back to their "last fridge". -> This helps to speed skill leveling on dupes with science & construction, because of the high number of "internal parts" fir construction time in the thermalshift plate blueprint.

Maybe not worth it just for the small water gain but just suggesting as a biased polluted tank user. Realistically I don’t know if it makes real worlds sense that many more kilos of polluted water are produced from the clean water input but who knows. A second dispenser increases +100% the speed of storage (actually a bit more, because the second dupe or the first one is already running/collecting stuff, rather than waiting). -> Building a space above/below for a third dispenser also gives a location for a 4th, but they would both only increase less than +50% (just more over a 200% total, from 100% if one dispenser), unless all 4 duplicants can reach objects and dispense them without moving.

For the plumbed sink: Given the ammount of water used on each flush (that fast, on just the hands), it has to flow extremely fast [high pressure], basically making a "tsunami" that forces germs out of that small surface into the liquid volume (other germs already in the water also unable to latch & hold). -> It probably uses the water pressure to also create a small buffer of vacuum/air_overpressure; this makes a strong, tiny wind at the very end of each use to push out any last drop of germy water out of the hands.

The water filtration generates heat to process it back to clear water too. . Feeding chilled sand to ~4°C (cooled passively by non-perishable food & medicine, taken from a pair of actively cooled fridges using automation) guarantees that it would remain below 20°C (from the 37°C coming out of duplicant excrete + sieve operation), so plants do not overheat & stiffle. -> This is useful if there is no way to "infinity cool" a remote asteroid colony [the heat from the fridge is dumped into CO2 or other excess gas, then pumped out to space].
