@@StephenButlerOne A while back I thought that an appropriate punishment would be to relegate Manchester City to the Championship, but also bar them from participating in the transfer market to bring any player _into_ their club (including players from other clubs in the City Football Group) for three years. Players can obviously leave, and the club can use the revenue from those sales however they see fit except to purchase replacement players from other clubs. They can keep the honors won during that period. Those things really belong to the supporters, who should not be punished for the owners' sins. What this option would do is force the club to survive on the merits of existing club players from the first team all the way down to the academy.
@StephenButlerOne2 күн бұрын

Think about it, the natural heir to Rodrigo Hernández is Martín Zubimendi. If Citeh is banned from transferring players in, Zubimendi is headed to either Barça, Madrid, or Arsenal if he wants to leave Spain. Against the aggressive defending of the Championship week in and week out, players like Phil Foden will lose their edge, and controllers like Bernardo Silva will be looking at sunny Spain or Italy for an out. The point is neutralizing the club, and cutting them off from the marketplace of players is how you do it.

Each position up the table earns the club 3M. So a 20 point deduction means there are ~5 clubs that were each denied 3M. 15M in direct losses. With a much bigger deduction more teams can make that claim. The team that was on the cusp and got relegated has an argument for 50M as they were kicked down to the Championship. The CL money is pretty complicated, because there are add on bonuses for the previous 5 years of results in European football. Liverpool has a claim for 50M at a minimum. But those add ons could easily add 10M-20M to their argument. Again, there are a number of teams that were on the cusp of CL/EL football. Over an entire decade, the total claims against Man City could easily exceed 500M in financial damages, by the various clubs. If they lose those court battles and their owners are shy about paying out, MCFC could literally disappear under that kind of financial pressure. (Most likely, someone buys the bankrupt club, but that is speculative.)

And with pep he will probably get fired and will get paid out for the last two years as a bonus.
@ComradeOgilvy19842 күн бұрын
Possibly true. Down at Championship or League 1 with limited revenues, Man City would be under another immediate FFP crisis and would be forced to sell a large number of high salary players. MC might be forced to offer payouts to the players to cancel the contracts, and thus much of the implicit transfer fee value of some of those players would be lost. This could add up to hundreds of millions of implied assets in terms of players put in jeopardy. It seemed to me like Guardiola wisely started his rebuild two years ago, but it looked like that effort halted. Losing Alvarez while still relying KdB, Gundogan, Silva, Walker does not add up to a proper rebuild. The individual roster decisions can be explained, yet we can all see the roster did not progress as much as expected.

Only 3 people making a judgement on at least 130 cases. Are you kidding! Er, I think we all know what the outcome is going to be then. The Saudis won't have ANY problem bribing just three judges. Celebrate if you're a City supporter 🎉🎉

1 season in the championship would be disgraceful. They need to be relegated to non-league and have to organically make their way back up and their titles should be stripped.

It would help if the Premier League and UEFA had rules that clubs obstructing or delaying investigations into alleged cheating by refusing to hand over documents would be disinvited to take part in their competitions.

As a Liverpool fan for 35 years, I will more angry if there charged and found guilty then I will if they are innocent, as city have cost 2 or 3 premier leagues and klopp should at least won three not one, now that makes me angry, considering we were playing youth academy players at times in our seasons they just bought bought bought, just like chelsea are all over again, but we hardy spend fck all yet we fight at the top most seasons, and I'm even angry how they screwed newcastle but not city not chelsea, totally bullshit 🤨😐😒🙄🙄😬

Sorry but I do not really agree, the majority of these issues were before Pep joined, pre 2019. Not sure how Jürgen would view a retrospective victory. I would void these years.

@frank-caroltrott6131 I never said I wanted us to get them titles, I don't think they have been tarnished, just like the league

SO: NBA model. Tiered luxury tax system of the soft cap. Every tier of spending you go over, you are giving larger amount in tax to a pool that gets distributed to all the other teams. When you get into higher levels, you would be giving 4 dollars to the league for every dollar you spend. You then naturally get either to a point where the gain is mooted by the cost, or the pool of money to your rivals gets high enough that it wasn’t worth spending for advantage.

The punishment should be similar to Rangers otherwise every team with billionaire ownership will be at the top of the premiership

Good video and interesting it is now 130 rather than 115. There are two issues that you didn't touch on and is not discussed on social media, that could be significant. 1) If these charges are proven, there is every chance of falsified accounts. That could instigate formal charges against the clubs directors. If systemic, apart from a sizeable fine, these directors, including the owner could be banned from holding a senior position in any organisation within the UK. 2) What has come out is that the UEFA leadership have alleged they have been personally threatened by City representatives. If this is true, more criminal charges. The EPL are in a tight spot. If they just slap City on the wrist, Parliament WILL move to introduce the independent oversight body. This is something the EPL obviously does not want. In addition there is absolutely a resolve that if City get away with just a fine, all bets are off. All clubs will accept the rules can be disregarded and the EPL will be officially broken. So the EPL will have to be firm.

The refusal to cooperate charge is serious business, it's bigger than the fact that if proven they basically cheated. That's the thing that could get them fully booted out of the league over devastating points deletions. The other problem they have is a bunch of the near the top clubs are all going to sue them if they're found guilty of any of it, which could be pretty devastating in it's own right. The thing that I think will happen is the City of London police will get involved over potential criminal accounting fraud - they're unlikely to do that until the EPL has done their thing and published their determination, because they'll need it to get warrants.

thanks for doing the research and presenting it to us in an organized and coherent manner. I'd prefer it if the city owners were forced into a sale and the club removed from their possession. This would be better than a points reduction/relegation/explusion scenario. It's not the club's/fan's fault the owners are corrupt

The problem is its taken so long to get to a point where city may get punished, even if they are relegated they will come up in 1 season no problem. They will have gave there academy loads of mins and get promoted. At that point they are clean from charges, have loads of academy players to sell and there club still is in a much better state than if they didnt cheat. It will basically just be 1 year off at best. Hopfully they get a 2 year transfer ban to then atleast they cant just buy a new squad straight away.
@Maax12002 күн бұрын
They will NEVER be clean of cheating. City are done.

I've had countless arguments with Citeh fans and I'm amazed out how blasé they are about this. They don't seem to grasp the severity of it. Or are in complete denial. They also don't seem to know what they're being charged for. Of course, most of us are expecting them to get off with a slap on the wrist. In reality, they should be kicked out of the league altogether like Rangers were. But I'll take relegation to the championship because they will never be same force again. They won't be able to splash the cash and it will take ages to build a team and they are the main guilty party for pushing up transfers so they're reaping what they have sown.

@markyNUFC80Күн бұрын
@liverpool_fc_tv debt has to be taken into account with any sustainability model, as in with any other business model. That's only one additional metric, but I'm sure you could come up with more. That is, if sustainability is the actual concern.
