Starkiller base shouldh ave been like.... the majority of everything they had to the point the ships were literally starkille'rs support/defense fleet.

Notice how TFO goes from a small paramilitary group so inconsequential that TNR decides not to deal with them to TFO being the new galactic government offscreen, even though the story picks up right where we left off with no time jump.

I was thinking, you know how you make that scene work? Make it the halfway point of the movie. We get to know Rose and Her sister, then have the Dreadnaught show up as they are trying to escape, they can't jump, and the things siege cannons will kill them, so Poe leads a desperate attack on it, throwing literally all of their starships, and then you have it play out basically the same, even have them say that the bombers would normally not be used but the ship's armor is so strong it's all they have that can hurt it. And then have it play out basically the same.

@@Ceece20Sadly true… the medallion served little more purpose than to simply tell the audience that the two characters were associated in some way. Then they proceeded to verbally tell us that they were associated (sisters). Why bother with the medallion if you’re gonna tell us everything anyway?

@@invidatauro8922 the scene still struggles because the bombers were a tactical nightmare. Apparently, in addition to their horrendous speed, they also had no shields, and artificial gravity was (technically) restricted to the cockpit and the room above the bomb bay. They were floating, not flying, matchboxes that had to get so close to the target that the question wasn’t whether they’d survive, but whether they’d take their enemy down with them. It’d be clinically insane to genuinely pitch this idea to a military organization, and even more so to be the general who approved it.

@@GGBlaster It could've been easily fixed by just giving them shields, more turrets, and just having them get overwhelmed by fighters. Maybe have it so that Poe is overconfident in his own abilities to keep them safe, and then have even him be getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of ships? Wouldn't that be a good "Subversion" of expectations, to have the best pilot LOSE the opening fight of the movie instead of win? You know what pisses me off? Those fucking writers want more than 70k for their jobs when here we are, coming up with better shit for free.

The republic had the means to fight the FO, but the galaxy wasn’t mentally ready for another large scale war, and they needed more time to prepare. So to go on the offensive they create the Resistance, playing off the in galaxy nostalgia of serving in and fighting for the Rebellion.

I think the way it worked in the sequel trilogy is that the resistance is like the Nicaraguan contras. Remember, it’s said that the republic’s support is “secret.” The new republic didn’t want to openly fight the first order out of fear of an all out war, so they made a covert organization to do it for them that’s technically separate. That relationship sounds interesting on paper, and definitely should have been explored way more in TFA. But yeah, the republic should definitely have left a fleet, if not multiple, for the resistance as a contingency.

Air Force would do fine with aircraft inside an atmosphere, but whole space ships with that logistics in space where attacks come from all sides, I don't know. I'd trust an Imperial Class Stardestroyer a Navy Captain more than I'd trust it an Air Force Colonel for space battles.

It all tracks back to when the alliance procurement agency was integrated with the alliance logistics organisation to form alliance equipment and support managing to create the worst of both rather than the intended best of both!

IIRC, the excuse they came up with is that they were intended to do what the B-17 did during WWII - namely, carpet bomb stationary targets. In this case, orbital strikes on Imperial weapons factories and the like where the Disney New Republic had orbital superiority but not enough ground troops for the job. But honestly that can easily have been done by a Corellian Gunship and in a much more effective package too. Or since you'd probably have one carrying them in anyways, have the Mon Cal Crusiers just turbolaser the target for a while... anything that can stop that would stop these things.

The Resistance fighters were in and out so quick the First Order didn’t even manage to scramble fighters, those TIEs at the end were probably the only survivors of Starkiller Base outside of the Resistance aircrews

The Starfortresses actually dropped their bombs in this video, slow it to 0.25 speed when the Oculator(?) blows up at 1:19 and you'll see the bombs actually fall, but they're really small, so, no, the bombers didn't do nothing.

this is literally the equivalent of both sides in empire at war dumping as many heroes and assets as possible into a single fleet and then going for an all-or-nothing attack lol it also makes sense, if the resistance really deemed starkiller base that much of a threat they should've learned from the battle of yavin and sent ALL of their snub fighters available, i also love how you included the starfortresses BUT complemented them with y-wings as well, since the starfortresses are all firepower while the y-wings can actually take some of what they dish out and dodge everything else

I love how the stupid B-Wings hadn’t even reached the target and it was already destroyed. Good animation. I get you obviously want a battle for cinema purposes, but that doesn’t mean you have you nerf the Resistance down to X-Wings. They had Y-Wings for the Death Star. I would have had Finn deactivate their shields, but Han Solo and the gang have to rush to destroy some new First Order AA-Flack turrets that are keeping the Y-Wings and the B-Wings from completing their attack runs. They run into Kylo, the whole bomb setting plot line happens, you get the cinematic battle, but you don’t have to nerf the Resistance down to just X-Wings and make them look stupid.

That's like saying it makes sense that a small A-Wing can down a ship the size of the Executor, or a transport ship can destroy a fleet of Star Destroyers. The reactor of the death star creates enough energy to blow up the planet, so it makes sense if the reactor got severely damaged, and that critical mass it blew up, it would destroy it the thing that it resides in goes for the same thing for the death star 2 they went in there and blew it up makes total logical sense, because the reactor is the weak point and can create enough energy to destroy it. On the other hand star base killer they have walls for this reactor that is cannot be penetrated from the outside, so it makes no sense. Why would it be penetrate from the inside, and when the bomb went off It only created a hole for the X to go into and not destroy the entire thing. It don’t make no sense why star killer was destroyed at all.

Totally awesome! I think you're onto something and can build upon this to make it an even epic battle! For instance, after the First Order's first strike on Hosnian, they must have been on alert to anticipate a counter strike, so there should have been an epic first battle above Ilum or somewhere along the way to the thermal oscillator. Once there, there would have to be a final fight over the oscillator itself as the fighters clear out the ground emplacements for the bombers make their run. If they had enough bombers, the oscillator would have gone boom and then it would have been an epic escape for Han and co. as the planet goes boom. ....But I guess if we're making this more epic, then the oscillator would have survived or the bombing run failed, so then as Poe orders the retreat and fights the rear guard, Han and co. says they're gonna stay and make a last ditch attempt at infiltrating the oscillator and blowing it up themselves. Knowing that this is their target, Ren takes a company of stormtroopers there to defend it, and I guess at this point the plot goes pretty much the same as in TFA with Han trying to make plea to Ben and the det packs make a crack in the oscillator. Then Poe and what's left of the fighters make a last ditch trench run as Finn and Rey make their way back to the Falcon, only for them to be confronted by Kylo themselves. I love that you have the accompanying Y-Wings blow a bigger hole rather than just escorting Poe and flying off, so while they do that, Finn falls and Rey summons the force and beats Ren, Poe impregnates the oscillator, oscillator goes boom and Leia is hearbroken but saved! What's left of the resistance flies home, Chewy roars, Maz give's him a medal, The Last Jedi and Duel of the Fates can be rewritten so that it actually pleases everyone, yaaay! :)

The only problem I have with this is that they did not radio to the infiltration team that they are attacking - the Infiltration team which took down planetary shield. I assume that because the planet is partially hollowed out, it has a smaller mass shadow than it used to = there is a space under planetary shield into which a ship can jump, if it is precise enough. Han and Millennium Falcon is the perfect combination to do something like that. (I assume that first order set the planetary shield to be under mass shadow, but then hollowed the planet and not re-configured the shield)

@@jamesgoodman186 You are correct. I mixed it up with the hull breach. The problem was that the Resistance couldn't get through the hull because their bombing runs didn't do enough damage. That wasn't until Chewie blew up the explosives inside and Poe could enter through the hull breach.

I always thought a cool idea would be to make star killer a Planet with a dual biome so that one side could have the snow and be inhospitable and the other side is the Canto Bite casino planet to really hammer home the idea that the first order has diehard supporters who live in palatial wealth on a literal super weapon.
