I’m in my mid-50s and was and am a voracious reader. During my teens, the original trilogy was in its first iteration and I was hungry for and decent Star Wars content. I qualify my previous statement with the term decent because of the advent of the abomination known as the SW Holiday Special during that same time period. Anyway, there were several novels that were some of the first contributions to the EU that l bought and read. One of these was entitled “Star Wars: Han Solo and the Lost Legacy” by Brian Daley. This was the first telling of the tyrant Xim the Despot. I recall an obsolete tech known as Fluidics that was an innovation from Xim’s time that was a response to charged particle beam weapons of the era (and possibly nuke generated EMPs, although I won’t bet hard cash money on the nuke detail) that fried electronics. In Han’s time “Shielded Circuitry” is not only ubiquitous but the status quo on all Star ships, military and civilian. My point is that Xim’s empire used and had to deal with charged particle beam weapons of a power scale that there was no means of protecting and preserving standard solid state circuitry on his ships as well as his enemies. As I mentioned, fluidics were the solution, a cumbersome, high maintenance solution to solid state electronics. I’m speculating that even 25 centuries BBY, they had a few weapons that had the potential to wreak havoc on star ships in Han’s & Chewie’s time. Why? Because a charged particle beam weapon can appropriately be interpreted as just another name for an ion cannon.

About the nuke EMP theory. Nukes only produce EMP effects because the gamma and x-rays produced during detonation strip the electrons off of atoms. If one could focus the emissions from the explosion towards a target. You'd have a pretty good fleet killer. The only problem is that you could only use the weapon once. It would seem that particle beam weapons would be purely kinetic. The particles would simply be tiny bullets.

Since lightsaber forms were mentioned in the end, let me give you a quick rundown: Form 1 - Shii Cho: Basic maneuvers applied in High Speed and random order. Favored by Kit Fisto Form 2 - Makashi: Fencing style designed to bypass the defenses of enemy duelists and take them down with small cuts and stings. Favored by Count Dooku. Form 3 - Soresu: Defensive form considered to be impenetrable once completely mastered. Favored by Obi-Wan Kenobi Form 4 - Ataru: Aggressive, fast-paced fighting style relying heavily on acrobatics. Favored by Yoda. Form 5 - Shien and Djem So: Shien is another defensive form, that centers around using your opponent's power against him to counterattack. Djem So is an aggressive style, centered around physically overpowering your opponent. Form 5 was favored by Anakin Skywalker. Form 6 - Niman: A jack of all trades form, that borrows heavily from all the previously mentioned forms. Usually preferred by non-combative Jedi like librarians and healers, but also the likes of Exar Jun. Form 7 - Juyo and Vapaad: Both are aggressive forms that draw from darkside energy. Juyo attempts to further the darkness, while Vapaad attempts to invert it into light. Juyo was favored by Darth Maul, while Vapaad was favored by Mace Windu

Xim the Despot was such a cool backstory in HAN SOLO AND THE LOST LEGACY novel by Brian Daley. It is the 3rd and final book in that trilogy. The first being HAN SOLO AT STAR'S END, and the second titled HAN SOLO'S REVENGE. Seek these out; they are exceptionally well written, do not contradict anything in the original SAGA films, and are fun.✌

I like Corran Horns style. He wields a duel phased lightsaber that has two crystals if I remember right. He can switch it from a short and brawd blade to a long thin silver blade allowing him to catch his combatants off guard during duels.

Quick rundown for your benefit +EckhartsLadder Forms I and II are the basic foundation upon which all the other forms are built, Forms III through V are specialized forms and Forms VI and VII each require mastery of all the other forms, and combines their skillsets into one, with Form VI emphasizing balance, and Form VII being a refinement of Form VI, as II is of I, with a focus on letting the Force guide your actions. "Defensive Like Obi-Wan" Is pure Form III. Form III focuses on Defense, and often involves a lot of spinning, Form IV is the Acrobatic Form, and Form V builds on Form III, emphasizing the ability to turn your opponents attacks against them.

with regards to the question relating to Lightsabre fighting style, If I were a Jedi I would most likely spend time studying all 7 forms to attempt to figure out what works best for me, so I have no idea of what I would eventuraly decide on, but based on what I currently know of them and myself I would probably focus on forms 3 and 7 Form 3 Sourisu (sorry for the likely incorrect spelling) knowing how to defend yourself from multiple adversaries like Obi-Wan can seems to be something it would be important to master, and that is what form 3 is designed for, Form 7 Vapid, I do have a bit of a temper and while I have mostly mastered it. being able to focus that into something useful like Mace Windu can (as opposed to supressing it through force of will as I currently do) and maybe even using a bit of the dark while staying in the light (or at least light grey) seems to be a great choice for someone who occaisionaly struggles with the serenity expected of a Jedi

My lightsaber form would probably be based entirely on the adaptability of what i consider a perfect lightsaber. Dual blades that can both connect into a double saber, and have lengths that can be adjusted on the fly, between standard, tanto, and greatsaber lengths. I feel like this style would be really really effective as a dualing style just due to the control and variety it brings to combat.

Hey remember how the Ywing is a stripped down imperial era / old republic ship? Id like to see the Legends version of a stripped down new republic era star destroyer. Basically a star destroyer without it's hull on large parts of the ship. Like other stripped down ships to increase speed and range at the expense of reliability and durability. I have a combat class saber and have dueled with a friend before. I personally haven't put a lot of stock into the Starwars lightsaber forms but I do use a fencing style with about 50/50 offense to defense leaning towards offence.

On the topics of Kiirium coatings: Kiirium-coatings are seemingly still a thing in the "new canon" at least in the RPG from FantasyFlightGames, it's a modification which can be applied to person based armors and according to the supplement book "Keeping the Peace" P.56. Kiirium caotings are an obsolete shielding material once processed in the Si'klaata Cluster, it used to be important for the production of weapons, armor and vessels. It's properties would be effective thermal shielding, from the text it seems that heat transfer and reemitting it in i.e. infrared is the reason for this, less ablative properties. And since our new overlords at Disney stamped the books aproving them it should be canon now?

Personally, I’m a fan of Anakin and Luke’s preferred style: Form V. While my preference is for the Djem So variant over the Shien variation, I’d study both to give me skills for dueling AND dealing with blasters. I like the fact that both Form V variations utilize both offensive AND defensive techniques

Another novel series i read described the technology stagnation issue in a way i think also applies to Star Wars. After a civilization reaches a certain level of technology it requires an insane amount of 'technology points' to come up newer technologies. Most like that civilization would focus more on improving technology they already have. Which i see a lot of in the Star Wars universe even if that's not intentional. Hell, same concepts show up in video games like the Civilization Series.

Personally I’d choose the most aggressive technique possible. And still be a Jedi. My reasoning is that if aggressive violence must be applied, it would be better applied totally rather than partially and risk collateral damage. End the threat as fast as possible. Don’t leave your enemy time to strike back. And end the threat in such away as to also end all future threats from the same source.

The biggest issue - giving us the technological stagnation - was the MMO. At the onset of the Clone Wars, fighters had limited or no shields, and required an external hyperdrive. And the KOTOR games show a predecessor to the Astromech that is suitably primitive. Then the MMO has tech more advanced than anything seen before or after.

My Actual fighting style would be more like traditional Sword Fighting. However if I had to choose Lightsaber styles it would be a Mix of Form 3, Form 6, and likely Form 1 and 2 to round things out. I tend to wait my opponent out and let them make the first move, and hopefully the first mistake in order for me to end the fight quickly, cleanly and decisively.

I've actually given some thought to the lightsabre form question. For me, probably Form III (Soresu) primarily, with elements of Form II (Makashi) and/or the Teepo Paladins' blaster style for offense. Might mix in some others depending. With technology advancing as it is, we *might* possibly have something 'close enough' to a lightsabre within my lifetime, but I doubt I'd be able to afford one if we did.

@@guibin Yes, this is accurate. In Star Wars FFG it looks to me that Shien Expert talent tree encapsulates both Shien and Djem So. Starting out you'd have to buy the talents individually. In essence, you could build your character to represent either Djem So or Shien. If you do max out the Shien Expert tree then you've mastered both Shien and Djem So. I think this makes sense, actually. Vader has done crazy shit with both versions of this style.

Seeing as it's Canon (partly) through Star Wars: Commander, is it possible that the Galactic Empire's Project: Blackwing had a secret objective of unlocking immortality (possibly based on one of Plagueis's attempts) and used by Palpatine around the time of the Battle of Endor? Seeing as the original version of the virus in Legends was created by Darth Drear in order to achieve immortality for Sith Lords, something Canon Palpatine was looking for due to believing that the Empire shouldn't out live him. (sigh) Humanity dominates, not only in Star Wars but in EVERY science fiction franchise involving aliens, not because the creators actually thinks we would, but because humans are what we actually HAVE, and thus are much easier to create. You'll notice we're a lot less dominant in animated productions where they don't need a makeup job that's more expensive every day the actor puts it on than buying a small house or brand-new car for EACH separate alien they use. PS is it just me or does that ship look like a hitachi vibrator?

we know how the Old Republic Hammerhead were considered Capital ships. the Hammerhead was huge by Old Republic standards but by the time of the Galactic Civil War they were tiny by comparison. if I was a force sensitive I would go with Form III/Soresu and form V/Shien because a strong defense is a powerful offense.

So you like Form 3 for defense and the Vaapad variant of 7 for offense. I would almost certainly be bad at form 4 due to my giant body, though fun, so I'd be probably on form 5 like Anakin, a more aggressive form heavier on power attacks

If I would be force sensitive, then my dueling technique would be Inspired by the Samurai and asian influences. My lightsaber would use Vibro Technology, the blade would look like a black Katana with white Stars all over it. I like the Kill Bill movies and was always interested in Katanas.
