Thank you for your comment. How do you make peace with the past? I carry a growing virtual duffel bag of difficult memories and regrets that I know are weighing me down, although I have no idea how to set that down and move forward in a lighter state. It’s an ongoing struggle. Be well.

@@Rich-wi7dn We all lug our past on our back like a backpack. We are also travelling at the same time on the train of life. Why not take off the backpack and set it on the floor of the train ? One of the thing that is fundamental in leaving the past where it belongs is to forgive oneself and others. Forgiving oneself is the sine qua non of leaving behind a lifetime of regrets. What is memories if not regret, whether hurting others or being hurt but now regretting not doing something about it soon enough. In some way forgiving oneself is much harder than forgiving others. I believe it reflects the oft unconscious non willingness to admit that after all we all have the freedom to make our life. It may look difficult and it is. But in the end it is our choice to act or not. namaste

What do we say about the fact that people have deep seated experiences from the past that change their make-up, brain chemistry and bodies, so that things like 'making peace with the past', understanding that 'comparison is the thief of joy' and knowing you are the only person who can make yourself satisfied are often incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible concepts to connect with / access without a huge amount of the right type of work / support.

It's also true for sadness. There is this sadness within me (at times) that *my mind* likes to *_avoid_* by *thinking* about holidays, things to buy, making the house pretty, clothes, food...and when I am *present* this tendency is *observable.* I think it is a feeling of _unease_ sometimes it's hard to find a word for this feeling but it's just like _something isn't quite right_ like I feel weird. But then *when I am present, this feeling dissipates!* It's ironic that we are running away from it, but if we just stay still & be present ( _disassociate from this feeling_ ), then we can feel so much better! The mind can't see *_it's_* the problem! But if we *_transcend the mind_* we CAN see that the mind is indeed the problem. *With eternal thanks & love* ❤️ 🕉🙏

I can relate to this, but find it very difficult in every day life to sit with it. I am also wondering where the unpleasant feelings come from, as they arise often out of the blue. Could it be that the technology and WiFi everywhere in the ether, disturbes our frequencies on purpose? The suddenly changes and fact that every human being on this planet suffers from severe negative thinking and feelings, seems to ramp up. In nature without a cellphone one suddenly feels so much better, innerpiece is than established and maintained effortlessly. Stay blessed beloved. ❤️ 🙏

You say dissociate, the term used by Buddhist,s, Daoists, is detachment. When you detache from thoughts and emotions they dissipate. And you become aware that at your centre you are stillness observing. The stillness observing those fears of yours is called Rigpa in Buddhism, in Daoism it is the primordial self, as opposed to the conditoned self, and in Hinduism, Atman. Now from a state of Rigpa, can you observe thoughts as they are trying to steal your attention.

This is part of why I extra appreciate the videos that are unedited of Eckhart speaking. The pauses between talking with calm reflection and letting the words come to him sometimes teaches me just as much as what he’s saying, I feel they’re a part of the lessons. I used to be so impatient when I first started listening to him. Now I find his pace soothing, whereas the edited ones to remove his pauses stress me out and make it more difficult to absorb the wisdom of his words (although I take that as a moment of practicing acceptance for what is, too🙂). Bless this man for everything he’s reminded me about life and consciousness. ❤

Very well said!! Sadhu... Symptoms: "You lose yourself in doing." "Now, and then (in the future or in the past) creates stress." "Most people want to be there but they are here." "You are lost in thinking." "Lost in the mind/thought." It is about the future and not in the present moment - determined by the past" "Present moment as a means to an end. But not end in itself." "Present moment is seen as obstacle (means to an end) to get to somewhere else." "One's identity rises from that and is seen as a problem to be solved." Realize what is happening "Observe yourself" "Is there some anxiety, anger, fear etc found from the past?" "Accept the state of anxiety, anger, etc..." " Emotion feed thoughts and thoughts feed more emotion." "Lost in thought.. to ask who are lost? Who am I?" "acknowledge the present moment." Awakening: "Awareness comes in - you are not identified with the emotion." Arising of awareness is the beginning of sppiritual awakening." PS Even if you are awakened, this may happen. (Remember Saichi's example - I am there and i am here... In and out... in and out, external to internal, internal to external..)

That’s just the ego being discontent. Breathe. No judgement. Awaken to the now. If still too discontent to listen and learn, perhaps this will be of greatest benefit to listen to. The ego is a liar. “Be aware” there is discontent and impatience, inside, and allow the awareness of that, to put space around it. Then be aware of the present moment. This practice will ease the discontent and impatience. This is spiritual awakening. We are so conditioned by “ego”, but practice will eventually free you!

The present is very difficult to imagine or grasp. That point of transition from future to past is so very small. It seems like the future is coming, it’s almost here, and then, it’s the past. You can’t get to the future without going through the present, and you can’t get to the past without, again, going through the present. Yet, in that tiny space, everything must be because there is nothing physical in the past or future. That is my take on your talk. Thank you, Eckhart. peace. Mike

Connecticut is very close to here & I lived at the ocean 🌊 when I was little girl.. God bless your day. 😊🌄🧬✝️❄️⛵🐬🌊✨

So, the last video I watched of him, was a 15 minute vid, that could have been 5 ... and now I am watching one, where he tells me to be less impatient. xDDD Ok, watched it. Not good. :/ well. not my thing, I guess.

Sometimes, even during watching a video like this, the mind gets pulled into some "more interesting thoughts " and unconsciously wanders off in a different direction while the video continues to play. I think. the reason this choice becomes more interesting is because with the mind exercise, at the end (of the chain of thought) or along the way, there are take aways ( a sort of an emotional high) that encourages the mind to prefer such escapades. It's like been given a treat for doing an activity. And Comparing this benefit with staying present, which is kinda boring (unless one's experience is intense) without any mind gymnastics/ drama , most times the mind wins. Unless one experiences a no mind blissful state that is intense and which far exceeds the little treats he gets being dramatic in his mind I'm afraid one would choose using their mind. But how does one get such an intense experience? PS:- Am not talking about a mind that suffers from worrying a lot because of its thinking , but about one that thinks (Imagining or recollecting memories) of something pleasant.

I'm not impatient, I just want it to not be now, right now okay? You're always showing up right when I can't wait for it to not be now, because I want my hamburger now... (This kills the subject)

This is why your satori was delivered by you shitting your pants, you forgot you had a tantrum and then enjoy the ice cream you asked for, and got, but then blame the universe, which did it perfectly so that you wouldn't mess up the taste with negativity. Thanks, Mom.

But there is many an ice cream, and much pants to be shat in the eternal (I live for roughly 60 years, my time as a line isnt realistic) now, or being, or your being, figuring it out mentally doesn't matter, mental is just one small part of what we are.

Living in the now is seeing that you're the whole thing. When you see that, it's sad when you ignore the now in the same way it's sad to leave a dog at home. The now is like a dog and loves everyone, it loves those who take care of it without other "future" events on the back burner.

Sometimes, like during a disease, event, or after an accident, you can't see the point in thinking, or may be entirely unable to speak inside or put things into words, these moments are when Eckharts teaching is seen as a real thing.

My issue (well, an issue) is that when I become aware of anxiety, anger, sadness, rather than a sense of space or oneness, I consider it just another thought. And, naturally, with anything as subtle as inner being, or presence, when I chase it, it disappears, and the circle begins again. Worse, I see the insanity of the situation, and new emotions appear, then awareness, then elusiveness etc.

Awareness is not a different state, it is simply self-consciousness, part of our consciousness observing another part, the troubled part. There is nothing spiritual about it.

Having suffered from a rather extreme case of this myself, I agree 100%. It has become a massive, invisible pandemic that is affecting a huge number of people. Thanks to the modern Western diet, the chemicals in our environment, and drugs, many of us are no longer able to digest food properly. And this has a powerful effect on our mental health. Every day I look around me and see people with persistent gastric reflux, thyroid problems, sugar cravings & weight problems, eczema, etc, etc. The concurrent rise in depression & anxiety is no coincidence. Please read The Gut and Psychology Syndrome - I'll bet that many of you will recognize your own symptoms in the book.
