Sign up for Doorways into Presence - A 7-week Online program to quiet your mind and live in the now with Eckhart Tolle: bit.ly/doorway...
This video is the second in a FREE 4-part miniseries with Eckhart Tolle that you can access here: bit.ly/3qlsB9l
What do you hear at the moment?
Eckhart Tolle tells us that attending fully to the sounds around us is a surprisingly powerful and always-available practice to shift from thinking into stillness.
And the fainter the sound, the more we need to be still to be aware of it.
In "Awareness of Sounds and Silence"-the second of a four-part selection from his new online course, Doorways into Presence-Eckhart leads a bell meditation that invites you to experience:
🔔 How alertness increases through attention to sound
🔔 The nameless purity that remains in the absence of sound
🔔 Becoming aware of awareness

@@robinhood6954 Hey, “so wutt?” Some people are rich and some are poor. Maybe it is merely a choice. He probably didn’t make his money off of the blood and sweat of suffering humanity. If you got something from him, “free of charge” on KZbin, what is there to squawk about. For myself, it is very generous. I never had to leave my home to receive a valuable insight from a man who knows more than myself. Prior, I had to seek in the Himalayas, loss of income, travel, airline, arduous dangerous journeys, steep slopes, freezing, sweating, sickness, and all that. So, I turn my computer on and get a free practice. THAT IS GENEROSITY!!!

@@stephenflood3463 _"I wonder where I could buy them coz I'd get a set myself if I knew where?"_ Search for "meditation cymbals." There's lots of them (tingsha bells. There's a wikipedia page about it. There may be a difference in tonal quality between antique and modern mass-produced. The wiki page says new cymbals are made to the same frequency, but pairing cymbals with slight differences in frequency can produce the harmonics (which you hear in the video. A "beat frequency" as the mismatched waves overlap and cancel each other out.). The online mass-produced cymbals aren't that expensive to sample. I think there's a phone app too (or a ringtone you can add to your phone's sounds, then use the alarm app). I've seen that used to end silent meditation. You want to do 15 minutes? Set the alarm, and be interrupted by that sound.

Thank you dear Eckhart ❤! Would love you to talk about the critical mass theory sometime! "The critical mass of enlightenment can be defined as the smallest number of awakened human beings whose collective influence can initiate a significant shift in global consciousness. The process of creating enough enlightened ones to achieve this critical mass can be likened to the transformation of coal into diamonds. The pressure of surrounding human unconsciousness creates an urgency in the potential enlightened one to awaken from illusion. The total weight of so much unconscious 'carbon' exerts a tremendous pressure, through which a few coal stones reach the appropriate mass to become 'diamonds.' These awakened beings embody the crystal clarity of enlightened consciousness which can transform the level of consciousness of the entire planet."

I was indeed following the sound that 3rd time...then a macho advert for a super-masculine adventure jacket started blaring. Seemed an odd choice of targeted advert! I mean, you can't let interruptions ruin meditation or stillness. You have to be able to remain focused and aware because The World does not bend to your will or take a time-out simply because you've 'scheduled' some spiritual time. But it was a bit like having an advert for, I dunno, Call of Duty or the latest John Wick movie to cap ofd the session!

If we're all the same awareness, why I can only feel my body? Even if I'm in a deep meditative state, if someone touched me I would feel it, in this body, even if my mental sense of I or ego would have gone away temporarily; so there's this sense of "I" but everyone else is also feeling that sense of "I" , what's so special about "this" body?
@swirlingchi
@swirlingchi Жыл бұрын
At the heart of your question lies the dance between the universal and the personal, the infinite and the finite. Remember, awareness is the vast, boundless field of consciousness in which all experiences arise and subside. This awareness is indeed universal. However, each body-mind complex functions as a unique instrument or lens through which this singular awareness experiences itself in the world of form. Think of the ocean with countless waves. Each wave is unique, with its own form and trajectory. But fundamentally, each wave is still the ocean. The wave has a sense of individuality, yet its essence is the same water that makes up the entire ocean. Similarly, our body-mind complex is like a wave, providing a unique perspective, while our true nature, the awareness, is the ocean itself. Your body is an exquisite tool for the consciousness to navigate and experience the world of form. Sensations, emotions, and thoughts that arise within this particular body-mind are specific to it, just as the experiences of another body-mind are specific to it. But the fundamental awareness behind all these experiences remains undivided and one. So, while in a deep meditative state, if someone were to touch your body, the sensation would be felt in that particular body because the body-mind complex is designed to process sensory experiences in its localized environment. The dissolving of the ego or the mental sense of 'I' in meditation reveals the deeper truth: the 'I' that you feel, and the 'I' that everyone else feels, arises from the same source of awareness. Yet the uniqueness of each body-mind allows for a multitude of experiences. Celebrate the mystery and paradox of this existence. Embrace both the uniqueness of your experience and the unity of your essence. In this dance between the individual and the universal, there's a beauty and depth that makes life truly magical.

@@swirlingchithank you for your answer! I guess my comment was concerned with the idea of solipsism (being the only conscious human or the only 'real' one) since I seem to have a very specific location/experience in this particular body, and I only have access to my thoughts. You can say that everyone else also experiences seeing the world through their eyes, but we can't prove that, we can only assume that they're conscious too. In a dream, there's only one dreamer, and the other ones are just figures (the concept of philosophical zombies) with no consciousness. I understand that is very likely that all the phenomena that i perceive is generated by Consciousness, yet the "universe" is being observed through my eyes, it's like there's a zoom in my experience, like there's something special about this experience. Yes I can say everyone else feels that but to me, there's just this one experience: mine. I'm the one that seems to be 'in the focus' so to speak. And it kinda seems impossible to have all the experiences at once (as in, we're all the same person, literally) because to me there's just this one experience and that's all.

Let me break this down as I see. But what prompted awareness in the mind to become aware. In this case Sound was produced by a form of matter so sound is not a state of matter. Sound is energy. So sound is only a form of energy, not a form itself. So what prompted pure awareness to become aware. Awareness cannot and did not form the brain and the body and the body did not form the brain nor did the brain form the body. Awareness is an inert faculty of the mind and the mind is the mental faculties that are non physical. For what purpose would you want to become aware of nothing when your very physical source that formed the intelligent species body and brain has been evolving you since creation or at an epoch. A/the physical source within the intelligent species that the spiritual teacher is not AWARE of.
@Alex722
@Alex722 Жыл бұрын
The source you’re referring to, is not physical. If it was actually physical, scientists would have discovered it and work all around it, many years ago.
@chiptowers1
@chiptowers1 Жыл бұрын
@@Alex722 Awareness cannot exist without a physical source. Awareness formed nothing physical. Whether you or the scientists know or not know how the physical source derived, the point is, the physical source that formed the body and the brain exists and the proof of that is the intelligent species being. That, no one can deny. Scientists know the iteration function within the intelligent species is a physical source formed by the fusing of elements and having a symbiotic relationship with biology. Proof of that is the human molecule. There is nothing spiritual or magical about that.
