How can I be aware of my ego prior to it arising?
Eckhart explains that as you develop deeper Presence, the gap between an aggressive ego assertion and becoming aware of it will shorten. To strengthen our awareness of ego, he suggests practicing Presence in everyday situations so you can notice being taken over by the pain-body.

Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

_The flower loves it when you give it attention, because you add something enormous to the flower by giving it attention. The flower is not aware of its own beauty, it just is, and when you unite your consciousness with the flower, through you the flower gets a glimpse of self recognition._ It's true not only for a flower but also for every human being.

I am 43-years-old and just experienced something like this for the very first time. Went on a long hike and was lying down under a big tree. I picked up a leaf and observed the tiniest little caterpillar crawling on the leaf. Watched this tiny creature crawl up the side of the leaf and move its little head up and down and realized this 3-4mm little guy was eating the edge of the leaf. It really just amazed me that I’ve gone my whole life and never slowed down enough to be conscious of something so precious.

When I did, by clearing it , putting grass down ect, showing I cared, and started to feed it , the following year it had started to grow new branches and leaves. So now I give my love to all my plants , trees, and any nature I am in, and feel so much more connected to it. Thankyou Eckhart, 💜🙏💜

I called someone I loved to express my hurt, I yelled, I cried, I fussed and he sat on the phone in silence. He began to speaking shortly after and his tone brought me so much presence to the point my frustration softened into space that then led to love. Sometimes you get lost in pain that has been imprinted from past experiences, I have learned to be more like the element of air and flow with the emotion. Become witness to its affects on both me and my experience, it has taught me how to go deeper into self by leaning into the energy of who I truly am.

Anger is normal, the problem is the overwhelming emotion of anger that 'takes over' and the only way to stop this is a paradigm shift. Anger takes over because we aren't thinking straight about a situation and we have to understand that whatever we think we see is only a tiny fraction of the truth in EVERY situation, so we have to remain open to understanding, almost with curiosity. Eg. if someone appears to be attacking us, we may not see that they are dealing with emotional issues themselves or a whole range of problems we do not know about. Once you can recognise this, you can stop personalising it, stop involving your ego and getting overwhelmed and start to simply solve the problem. Overwhelming anger is definitely about attachment to, and viewing the world through, our ego.

"never stop it by suppressing it" - YES. real mindfulness is about feeling your emotions as much as possible inside your body, without thoughts attached. Then it loses momentum by itself, as no thoughts are fuelling it. Ride the wave, as it were. I think that observing your emotions is way more useful than obsessing about the ego. As Eckhart says, it subsides when you see it.. don't fight it because it will just get stronger!
@Michelle-bv1ko
@Michelle-bv1ko 10 ай бұрын
Mine didn't😓... I recognised the pattern -the rising heat of overreaction to a situation - in time to force myself to walk away & find something else to do in order to get the emotion to subside... I went into the shower, visualised the water rinsing away my emotional "eruption"; I breathed deeply for a few minutes... I suspect I didn't believe deeply enough that these remedies would help, as about 20 minutes later, my head began to pound as it does after a heated argument with someone..😔. Perhsps what I'd really done, was merely to suppress my angry indignation, rather than visualising it flowing down the drain with the water. I recovered & at least the usual argument that often arose in the past, didn't happen this time & I'm hugely grateful for that.😔

I'd like to add an experience to this as an after thought... That nature is the nature of Life. When just several years old, I looked closely at a small spider in it's web, coming to wonder if the spider was as aware of me as I was it and, sure right then that it somehow was. A little later, I looked closely at a bush and it's leaves. I became aware that even a single leaf of it was full of life and that life was also in me; with this wonderful gift of life I had been born and my heart felt the recognition of the consciousness of this life, original joy, that I have come to recognise as unconditional love!

For a moment a felt so good inside. Away from the material world. Thank to this I know it is something good I can practice to keep. Greeting my friends :)

It never fails, I always hear exactly what I need this moment. I always loved observing flowers... Now I know why :-)) Feel such gratitude for his Loving encouragement to continue opening one pain-body "door" after the other, and letting in more presence. The most rewarding part is the perspective Eckhart takes that each release of pain body is actually helpful for human pain in general. That knowledge is huge and motivates me even more. @@stacyr4768 In a word: Categorization. It is one of the basic ways that man orders the world around him. This ordering creates all sorts of effects from hatred and domination, to creating furniture, to putting crafts into orbit around the planet, to seeing a business opportunity, to appreciating the beauty of a "rose". Categorization partitions the reality we see before us each day, an obviously useful thing. However, the unintended consequences of partitioning reality are something important to give consideration to.

I just stumbled on to this enlightened teacher Mr Eckhart Tolle. I know it was not by accident because the Universe always puts us in the path of persons, and situations that we need to learn from... Mama Universe is speaking through my spirit and telling me, I am going to receive a myriad amount of information from this brilliant teacher. I said all of that just to say, the perspective that Mr Eckhart Tolle just gave about the flower, nature and love is the most beautiful description of love through acknowledgement that I have ever heard... I so desperately need to rid myself of my ego. Thank you Mr Tolle.

So for anyone who feels the same way. Its Ok and you are not broken or Alone. Keep going.

I was trigger twice yesterday. I was aware almost immediately but had to ride the wave as best as I could. It was a real struggle but I found it took less time to recover. My “egoic” response to each situation was strong but I was also aware as it rose up with all the internal comments of negativity. The voice of the anger/ego was loud but I was gradually able to be more present and recover....not easy to be sure.

Listening to Eckhart talk about how to really look at a flower for 10 minutes is more relaxing for me than any guided meditation track I've ever found on youtube. I felt my stomach genuinely relax for the first time in months when I first came across this video. It deepened my understanding for how to relax. Not just his words alone, but the long pauses between speaking too.

As I listened to the birds one day, I wondered to myself "maybe I'm the only one whoever listened to that bird sing. That particular bird." And I think what happened afterwards was me appreciating that bird, it's existence and beauty. Kind of like what he's saying. But it started because I was in a lonely park and nobody who passed through was paying any attention to the actual beauty of the living things there, and it felt sad, that such a thing could happen, yet it happens constantly. Us all missing the beauty God made. Thank you Eckhart.

I have been following the teachings of Eckhart Tolle since 2013 after going through a shocking and painful divorce at 27 years-old, which shook "my world" and reality as I knew it. All of a sudden, I was alone in the US, without family and friends - I had very little emotional support and had to learn how to rebuild "my life" on my own. The loneliness and disorientation I felt were intense, Eckhart Tolle's teachings was all I had, so I leaned into it heavily, listening to it every day in my solitude and finding comfort in his voice and in the truth I sensed in his teachings. 9 years later, after a difficult journey of uncovering a lot of unconsciousness (the divorce was just the beginning) my life has transformed - I remarried a wonderful man who is kind, loving, patient and we practice spirituality and work on our unconsciousness together, I have started my dream and vision of becoming a spiritual wellbeing coach with a focus on Eckhart's teachings, and my dream of moving to Portugal is finally coming true. I don't want to focus on the "outer layer" only and don't want to give the impression that life is now perfect, we all know this is not the nature of reality. There is still unconsciousness, but more often than not I am aware of it shortly after, so I'm able to let go and not create suffering. I continue to practice presence since I know anything I experience in the world of form is temporary and will eventually dissolve - I want to be cautious not to develop strong attachments to the world of form after manifesting the life that I always wanted. I felt the truth in my bones in everything that Eckhart teaches, but to have put it to the test (how he says it himself), and to now experience and see the truth for myself has been transformational - it has deepened my presence and trust in it, and it is incredibly liberating to feel connected to source throughout normal daily life. Thank you, Eckhart.. I am infinitely and forever grateful for your teachings
