Nice Job Jonathan! Would’ve really liked seeing the owner agree to new valve cover gaskets as well as spark plug tube seals- it’s like you’re already there! Especially since it’s a salvaged engine. I know you can only do what the owner can afford… nice work on that EGR!!!!!

Yeah it really sucked to go that far into it and not do the gaskets. It is what it is . 🤷♂️

I am SO glad I live in a state where emissions testing is not a thing (Kansas). Makes older cars a lot more hassle to run when you have to keep old smog systems functional. Bad enough just to keep em running for cheap lol
@themechanic61177 ай бұрын
I wish that were the case here! It really sucks when the car is old and clapped out yet it still needs to pass emissions. What's crazy in most of Indiana doesn't require emissions but I have to be in 1 of the 2 county's that requires it

I see that a diagram of the vacuum hose routing is easy to find online. Quite a few lines involved in that setup. I would bet an incorrect routing maybe? Otherwise the possibility that something else needs cleaning. I hate it when I have unresolved issues like that. Those are the things that bug you when your laying in bed at night. I still think about my 1970 Ford Fairlane that stumbled when you first hit the gas from a stop - AND that was back in 79. lol...

Most likely the egr pipe is clogged further down the system or perhaps inside the intake manifold?? I definitely hate unresolved problems 🤣
@Longtrailside7 ай бұрын
Old egr systems can be a nightmare to get fully cleaned out and repaired. You literally have to go over a schematic of the system to understand the engineers theory of operation to diagnose and repair. Ohh and a coat hanger, a box pipe cleaners, and rainman rays amount of brake clean.
@themechanic61177 ай бұрын
I have no doubt that the EGR pipe or inside the intake manifold is restricted.. I did what I could, it cost me a bunch of time and I didn't get that code fixed

@@themechanic6117 No worries from this side of the frog pond I totally understand where your coming from, especially as a buisness. The kid doesnt have the money to have you do all what i said to do. Now if he wants to buy the schematics himself and go thru and clean everything himself thats one thing. For you to do it its gonna cost more money than that youngster has.

Great Video, New Sub. If You Had A Scope Camera You Could Film That Little Hole Inside The Throttle body.

@@Beethechange1 I feel you. I put way too much money into my sh!tbox 2000 Suburban than it’s worth, but at the end of the day a new Suburban is $65,000+ and mine is also paid off so I guess it’s not that bad?

Now that you probably know the entire system, you can check it quickly and not give a refund, you are allowed to do warranty work brother, this time could have been free if any of the same parts were changed or out of the goodness of your heart, you at least needed to see if any of the new parts were bad or if the small hole was plugged again, no refunds, NO. You need to schedule it back in or keep the car until you are not pressed for time just like every other shop, you are teaching folks to get over on mechanics, please do not do that, cheers.
