I recently did some research about this and decided to go for 100% recycled plastic mailers instead. I thought that compostable mailers would be the most eco friendly option, but they are made using new resources. It’s actually more eco friendly to use 100% recycled plastic bags, because recyclable items can be turned into raw materials that can then be used to make new things without needing to create completely new resources. Recycling is also more friendly to contamination, most items that can be recycled and composted bring some level of contamination to compost. When a piece of paper, newspaper, a cardboard box, etc has ink, adhesives and other contaminants, those contaminants are challenging and sometimes impossible to sift out of a compost pile. They therefore eventually end up in whatever the compost is used for. Just thought I would share that! Love what you’re doing and love the design of these new bags 😍

I agree, there's also an issue with the bag breaking down quickly too, once in a storage room exposed to damp and humidity they can start to split and decompose before the customer has even received the item.

I personally love the old bag better. The Kraft paper is such a statement and makes your handmade brand stand out. I even like the SMR effect when you manipulate it in your videos. Obviously that's personal. It's your baby, make it the way you want 😊

It's okay if it's see-through packaging. But you might want to test it out first if it's sustainable enough for an overseas packaging, especially against rainy weather.

Personally I think you should go for it. But, if scrunchie co. is a on the rise. Go for it, but if your company is on a budget you should wait. I know how you ladies do. And it don't matter about it being see through. It's different. It will give the customers a look to see what color they ordered. I love the style of your company. It's super cool. Way to go.

I like it. It looks cool and I don't think being transparent is such an issue as you are using one more bag inside of it. You can't see what actually is in the parcel. So I don't mind the transparent packaging.

I think you should make the pattern of the inner package smaller (like a monogram pattern), so when you put it in the bag it looks more defined and is not simply a meaningless line. I congratulate you on the initiative to continue betting on products that help the environment.

I think it’s fine since there’s already a bag inside. The bag inside can also be plain white so that the bag on the outside don’t look see through (or the current designed white bag be another cool design from the outside of the clear bag) however just as long as you can’t see the actual product (and hopefully people do not mistaken the designed bag inside as a product) it should be fine.

Not an issue at all if the items are inside a white paper bag like you demonstrated. The CYA thing to do would be to add the line, “Our mailers are completely compostable which is why they have peek-a-boo lettering. But not to worry! Your purchase will be secured inside a recycled paper bag to conceal the beautiful colors. This reduces our carbon footprint & yours!” Or something like that 😉

Could you wrap everything in white tissue paper before packaging to help? Would that be cost prohibited at this point as I know compostable packaging can be pretty pricey to begin with.

I think the old bags are best. Compostable bags are not organic for the earth, the ink is often toxic and people rarely compost them in their own garden. If you look past the marketing you'll find the ingredients are still toxic to the micro organisms in the soil. Paper bags can be put in the recycling collection and you know it will get reused in an effective way. I personally can't put compostable bags in the recycling and I don't like them in my organic food garden because they kill the plants so they go in the bin with the rest of the rubbish.
