This video will guide you through the removal and re-installation of the impellers on a Yamaha jetboat with either 1 or 2 of the 1.8L engines. This particular job was done on a 2018 Yamaha 212x. The new impellers are the 6CW01 that have also been re-pitched for better performance at higher elevations. The end result of the swap was about a gain of 1000 RPM's, small (3mph) gain on the top end and lots more power out of the hole and pulling out of corners. Use part WR014H to hold the shaft. amzn.to/3OLUSMj

This is by far the best footage I've seen on Jamaha jet pumps I've come across so far. Thank you for the effort!

What a great instructional. Thanks very much! I paid $2500 for parts and labor on a single jet for my 2020 SX190.

If I may add one foot note…. Be careful not to get sealant in the coolant intake port, it’s possible that the sealant when parts are assembled can squish into this important part and obstruct coolant flow to the motor.

I thought the impeller housing had a wear ring. But I’m finding out that the oem housings don’t, you have to get after market housings if you want a wear ring. This is a great video though. Someone mentioned checking the cone. In old school jet pumps the stator cone had gear oil similar to a differential oil. But these Yamaha cones are basically almost sealed and packed with thick marine grade grease, I believe the shop manual calls for molybdenum grease… they last a hell of a lot longer then 50 hours. But I guess it can’t hurt to check it out. Great work on the install

Good point about checking the cone. I'll have to pull these back apart and do that. I honestly hadn't even thought about that yet. We are a bit over 100 hours at this point, so I'm probably due. Appreciate the feedback! Cheers!

Word of advice to remove the impellers. You said turn it counter clockwise. You actually turn it right to loosen these impellers. Also to loosen them use the holding tool with a wrench and drive your car tire on it to hold the shaft no vice needed. Now take your 27mm wrench and a large breaker bar and pop the impeller off turning it clockwise righty loosy in this case. Also you need to torque these but they tighten as you use it. More critical on waverunners as the throttle loads are much quicker on and off than a boat which could spin off the impeller if not tight at first. Also you dont need to remove the nozzle next time. Take that off in one piece to save yourself some time.

6cw01 is the oem impeller. where did you send the impellers to to get them repitched?
@DadDoingStuff
@DadDoingStuff 2 жыл бұрын
I got them from Impros. They were really easy to deal with. I didn’t even have to send them my stock ones. So I still have them as backup.

Why did you have to replace the impeller rather than the housing? i was told the housing has a stainless sleeve, with salt water swelling between sleeve and housing , causes rubbing on the impeller, and housing needs to be replaced, not the impeller, i might have the wrong info. Thanks
@DadDoingStuff
@DadDoingStuff 5 ай бұрын
That could be true about housing and salt water. This boat never saw salt water so that definitely wasn’t a concern. Reason I swapped impellers was to use ones with a different pitch. The pitch on the new ones gave the boat much better performance at higher elevation lakes, like 5,500-7,000 feet of elevation. There was nothing mechanically wrong with the original impellers or housings. Hope that helps!

They are Yamaha impellers. Go to Impros. They have everything and can get you the exact right impellers you need from OEM to aftermarket. impros@impros.com is the email and Glen is who helped me. Hope that helps!

is there any reason not to use an impact wrench to break the impeller loose? holding the impeller with a box wrench.
@DadDoingStuff
@DadDoingStuff 2 жыл бұрын
Good question Max. I’ll be honest, I don’t know if that would break it loose, but I don’t see why you couldn’t try. I do know this took two guys at the shop with one standing on a breaker bar to get mine loose. They are on TIGHT! Hope that helps!

Hi Craig, I grabbed about 4mph on the top end and a noticeable difference out of the hole and cornering. Still not tipping out the RPMs, but getting towards the 7500 range wide open.

Good feedback. I clearly don’t have the service manual or a torque wrench that big. I’ve been using it extensively since the install with no issues. Now makes sense why it was so hard to get the old ones off!

@@DadDoingStuff and it increased the speed and the hole shot? Also did it make your boat use more fuel? I have a 2020 242 se ltd
@DadDoingStuff
@DadDoingStuff 2 жыл бұрын
@@donkelley32 Yes, it essentially allowed the RPM's to go higher, which improved out of the hole and top end speed. The stock impellers were only getting up to about 6500 RPM at full throttle. With these, I think I'm up closer to 7200 or 7300 RPM. (think the tachs go to 8k on the boat) The hole shot was noticeable to me, but I don't have any hard data to back that up. At one of my local lakes, which sits about 5,600' elevation I was getting a top speed of 37-38 with the stock impellers, but 41-42 with the new ones. I can't say on the fuel consumption because I just haven't paid close enough attention. But my guess would be, more RPM's = more fuel.
