@MIdaffy502Күн бұрын
This is not a bad idea. I replaced batteries in my APC UPS 1500 (which uses two SLA batteries) a little over a year ago. Those batteries lasted one year. In the years past I've replaced those batteries 3 times. SLA batteries started out at around $35ea, mine UPS requires 2, my last purchase had them at $48 ea. I've technically already over spent and SLA batteries have a very short life, but that didn't matter in the past much, as they were always cost effective. NOT ANY MORE. That APC UPS unit would run my modem and network for about. an hour. Note this, a UPS's provide around 4 backed up outlets and 4 filtered outlets. The River 3 only has two AC outputs, however if you were to plug in a power strip now everything on that power strip has back up power, limitation solved. This Ecoflow River 3 would appear to better choice today.

Does the river3 require you to click the ac button after it completely dies to get power back to the device? While it’s great for many things, it’s important when comparing it to a UPS that all UPSes that I know of will pass through power once power is restored regardless of the battery state. Most power stations I’ve seen (anker, eco flow, etc) will require the user to click on the inverter button after they are completely exhausted.

I'm curious about this question too. Also, what happens with power spikes/surges?
@Martin429442 ай бұрын
@@shanedass9339 at least in my experience these battery banks have actually pretty good surge protection because they often have separate battery chargers and inverter circuits. I don’t think they’re rated the same way as a UPS is so for sensitive electronics or things you need to know will work, I’d still suggest a proper UPS, but for some things they work well. I use mine for my router and to ensure the bank is always fully charged. Just need to make sure if we’re calling it a UPS we’re holding it to the same standards and calling out weaknesses.

I've been thinking of getting a UPS for my CPAP; I literally cannot sleep without it! When I look online, they are several hundred dollars, but I need it, so I'd be willing to spend it. But seeing this and it being less than $200 plus having all the extra bells and whistles, I might buy 2 and use one for my computer as well! Thanks Chris!
@bluesky9093Ай бұрын
Please be careful, it is important to understand the switching time requirements of your CPAP. The ecoflow has a switchover time of 20 milliseconds, that may not be fast enough to keep your CPAP powered during the switchover time. UPS manufacturers offer a switching time of 10 milliseconds on their most basic units (Standby), Line Interactive UPS offer 4 millisecond and Online offer instantaneous however the last type is a data center application UPS. I would check with the manufacturer of your CPAP to insure it can withstand a switchover time of 20 milliseconds, some electronic loads can’t. I spent an entire career with a manufacturer of all sorts of electrical products including sophisticated UPS systems. These KZbin videos are great to inform the public but they sometimes don’t cover details like I’ve noted above.

Something I've been wondering is if you could use something like this with a solar panel to lower your power bill without tying solar into the whole house or circuit breaker. Basically, I'd like to use a small solar array as the primary power source, with AC power connected as well as a secondary source for when there isn't sun / the battery is low. Would also be cool if it's supported by home assistant, and you could disable AC power input/charging when on a time of use power bill, where certain hours cost more from the grid

Or possibly easier: use any old/disfunctional/battery-less APC just for the purpose of signaling... If daisychained, you may get higher-joule protection. You can run these up and down every day and they will still be fine after 10 years or more - if you do that with an SLA, it will be dead in days, like 2 days.

You’ll have changed the batteries more than 30+ times by the time you’re dumping this one.

I agree, and sadly I am in the shrinkflation groups on facebook and reddit where people show the before and after shots. It makes you very angry to see this. Its OK to sell a product that is a certain size. Its not ok to sell a product fro 10 years and make subtle packaging and sixe changes, when the consumer still knows the old size. It's awful!

@@SilverCymbal yes like powerade. They did sell the 32 ounce then a few years ago they switched to 28 ounce but the same price and sometimes more
