Would have wanted to see the UPS feature using an actual Desktop PC, as there are other products that claim UPS feature, however the switching time is not fast enough to keep the PC on. Kind of a missed opportunity as you do analyze power, but didn't test the switching time.

Whoahh... I was literally replacing the batteries in my ups today. The pure sine wave ups will cost more for lower capacity and the batteries die every 5-7 years. This really is a good deal, I wasn't expecting sine wave, that makes this a good option for computer ups. But 3 things to consider, does it require a button push when power is restored? Does it output enough amps? Do you need it to shut your computer down automatically?

This is not a bad idea. I replaced batteries in my APC UPS 1500 (which uses two SLA batteries) a little over a year ago. Those batteries lasted one year. In the years past I've replaced those batteries 3 times. SLA batteries started out at around $35ea, mine UPS requires 2, my last purchase had them at $48 ea. I've technically already over spent and SLA batteries have a very short life, but that didn't matter in the past much, as they were always cost effective. NOT ANY MORE. That APC UPS unit would run my modem and network for about. an hour. Note this, a UPS's provide around 4 backed up outlets and 4 filtered outlets. The River 3 only has two AC outputs, however if you were to plug in a power strip now everything on that power strip has back up power, limitation solved. This Ecoflow River 3 would appear to better choice today.

Does the river3 require you to click the ac button after it completely dies to get power back to the device? While it’s great for many things, it’s important when comparing it to a UPS that all UPSes that I know of will pass through power once power is restored regardless of the battery state. Most power stations I’ve seen (anker, eco flow, etc) will require the user to click on the inverter button after they are completely exhausted.

@Martin42944
@Martin42944 2 ай бұрын
@@shanedass9339 at least in my experience these battery banks have actually pretty good surge protection because they often have separate battery chargers and inverter circuits. I don’t think they’re rated the same way as a UPS is so for sensitive electronics or things you need to know will work, I’d still suggest a proper UPS, but for some things they work well. I use mine for my router and to ensure the bank is always fully charged. Just need to make sure if we’re calling it a UPS we’re holding it to the same standards and calling out weaknesses.

Test it with some different PCs, pulling the mains AC. Also, does the fan run when it's being used as a UPS? Also, how many watts overhead does it suck to provide this UPS service? Also, what's it maximum continuous VA rating? I guess 300VA? Watts can be misleading eg. if you've got a 250watt load but a power factor of 0.6 it will hog 416VA.

I've been thinking of getting a UPS for my CPAP; I literally cannot sleep without it! When I look online, they are several hundred dollars, but I need it, so I'd be willing to spend it. @bluesky9093
@bluesky9093 Ай бұрын
Please be careful, it is important to understand the switching time requirements of your CPAP. The ecoflow has a switchover time of 20 milliseconds, that may not be fast enough to keep your CPAP powered during the switchover time. UPS manufacturers offer a switching time of 10 milliseconds on their most basic units (Standby), Line Interactive UPS offer 4 millisecond and Online offer instantaneous however the last type is a data center application UPS. I would check with the manufacturer of your CPAP to insure it can withstand a switchover time of 20 milliseconds, some electronic loads can’t. I spent an entire career with a manufacturer of all sorts of electrical products including sophisticated UPS systems. These KZbin videos are great to inform the public but they sometimes don’t cover details like I’ve noted above.

Something I've been wondering is if you could use something like this with a solar panel to lower your power bill without tying solar into the whole house or circuit breaker. Basically, I'd like to use a small solar array as the primary power source, with AC power connected as well as a secondary source for when there isn't sun / the battery is low. Would also be cool if it's supported by home assistant, and you could disable AC power input/charging when on a time of use power bill, where certain hours cost more from the grid

As the cost of lithium goes 📉 and battery component supply chains strengthen with scale, the value of electronics with large batteries goes 📈 and this is just the tip of the iceberg! Is this an online double conversion unit? "An on-line double-conversion UPS system maintains perfect output by converting AC input to DC, then reconverting UPS output to fully regulated sine wave AC. Constant on-line operation completely isolates sensitive equipment from every power problem on the AC line." As far as I understand, this type of unit always runs on inverter power, instead of using grid power, even when it's available. Make sense?

This looks pretty interesting. One question - the quick switchover is great, do you have any idea if the UPS funtion provides the other things a normal UPS provides? Like surge protection and filtering? So far I can't find anything on their site about that. Thanks.

Mildly tangential: Procured some Bluetti units for UPS duties (AC180, EB3A) and - despite the slow claimed 20ms switchover time nearly all LFP power stations with UPS mode claim - they've managed simulated outages without a hiccup. Considering some (rigid) solar panels for them for backup purposes, but the voltage/amperage ranges are a touch mismatched there.

That is a very good point but the cheaper units rarely offer that function through software alone, and even the smaller APCs models that I have been a fan of only communicate through their USB connection which limits you to one computer. @@wxfieldYou don't necessarily need to capture the info from the device. Or one of those Tasmota/open source smart plugs - or any network device, really, and ping it, or some other way figure out it went offline... Or possibly easier: use any old/disfunctional/battery-less APC just for the purpose of signaling... If daisychained, you may get higher-joule protection. If I were a betting man, I would say there's a jtag on the control board..there might be debug information coming from there..but you'd have to violate your warranty on the device to figure that out. @@Duke.Chocula I really am not a fan of these smaller wattage products. I think at a minimum people should use the Delta II or Delta 3 as they are not that heavy and not only do they provide 1 kw of power but they also provide 2400 w output with xboost and have larger solar input.

@@phakeAccount can they be used in “UPS mode”?

This is far from being a direct UPS replacement for anyone serious about redundancy power. The lack of outlets (says "6 outlets" on the website, but it's very clearly 2. Sorry Ecoflow, USB ports don't count, and even then, power banks exist and a DC port doesn't either because it's impractical) and the 300w output is very limiting for any higher powered appliances. There's also no indication of what the 600w output can be used for or how? My $180 UPS has 900w output and 12 outlets (6 on battery, 6 not). It looks like a nice unit for general power and the price isn't bad, but it's definitely not a UPS replacement.

You can always use a surge protector but the wattage is a good point. All of mine are 1500w (for the higher ah)

Yep, if they increase the output wattage, capacity, and add more AC outlets, I'd buy this in a hurry. They could double the price and I'd buy it. There aren't enough lifepo4 UPS units on the market.

Glad there's finally a good UPS with LiFePO4 batteries because all the other UPS companies are too greedy to change their ancient technology lead acid batteries. Sad that it's being capped at 300W output makes it useless for almost everything a normal UPS would typically power. Yeah I know they make bigger one's but it's diminishing returns for cost, twice the cost while being 2x the size and just slightly more output.

This one is too small for a pump like that but they have others that will. Pumps have a big startup draw but they can definitely run of battery systems

Like a UPS but no user replaceable batteries that means once the batteries wear out (and they will) this whole unit goes in the dumpster vs a regular old SLA battery UPS which almost all have replaceable batteries just stick in a new set and recycle the old ones and you can keep on using the same equipment.

It's lithium iron phosphate so capacity only drops to 80% after 3,000 cycles. Based on my usage, I'll still be using this one when I'm 90. Solar, car, and AC chargeable. I have a River 2 that I use to power a fridge/freezer in my car for trips and for camping. It fully charges in about 1.5 hours via the cigarette lighter in the car and powers the fridge up to 6 hours when parked. I haven't used a regular UPS in about a decade but the ones I've used basically gave you enough power to shut down everything.

You can run these up and down every day and they will still be fine after 10 years or more - if you do that with an SLA, it will be dead in days, like 2 days.

I agree, and sadly I am in the shrinkflation groups on facebook and reddit where people show the before and after shots. It makes you very angry to see this. Its OK to sell a product that is a certain size. Its not ok to sell a product fro 10 years and make subtle packaging and sixe changes, when the consumer still knows the old size. It's awful!
