Hello I enjoyed your review, thank you! I was wondering if there was any reason I shouldn’t vent the unit upwards. The reason I ask is I want to put it in my sienna camper on the center console and the moon roof is directly above it. It seemed convenient. Thanks 😊

Update 9/8/23, used the A/C in my 130 sq ft boat, works perfectly. Nice and cool 65° consistently. Next will be my tent this winter using the heater. I purchased this unit with the 400w solar panel, tested it inside my 115° car. Brought the temp down to 90° in ONLY 5 minutes. Screen said it could run 11-14 hrs. I'm seriously impressed. Total game changer for tents and boats.

Thank you, HOBO, for providing such an honest review of the Wave 2 AC. My friend who also purchased the Wave 2, but she ended up returning it for the exact same reason you mentioned. The inability to charge the add-on battery separately from the main unit was a significant drawback. Carrying both the battery and the main head unit, totaling over 50 pounds, and having to connect them indoors to plug into an outlet made it impractical for outdoor use. Your video would have saved her the trouble if she had watched it earlier! Your insights are truly valuable for potential buyers like us. Keep up the great work!

I agree that the product is much improved, but be aware that improvement may be nonlinear, with the first improvements being the nice 'low hanging fruit'. So the 'rate of progress' is likely to be a declining function, with smaller gains in future versions. I often wait for the second version of any product, but find that the wait for third versions often is not worth the opportunity cost.

I like the waveII. For approximately $1500.00 I can get the heat pump and 2 batteries. I'm off the grid. I will increase my solar from 400w to 800w. I have three power stations. I don't depend on the grid for anything. I use a deep well with filters. I compost. I hunt, fish I grow a small garden, muscadine vines, apple, pear and plum trees. There's a pond full of perch fish. I digress. Great Program R p.s. On fast charge from 10% to100% in 1.6 hours. The Growatt 550 was worth money and it does what I want it to. Thanks again R

Professor, this was a great review (as usual by you). I also appreciate your simple explanation of the two tubes going outside (of room or window or vehicle). I have seen many social media comments (including under videos about similar portable AC units) that perpetuate the misunderstanding of how the tubes are supposed to be used, with some videos even saying the tester recommends putting the inlet tube inside the van (or vehicle/space) to "recool the cooled air" etc.. Clearly they are wrong, and don't understand how the units work, while others don't like the idea of "bringing in hot outside air" to be used by the unit (e.g. when used in a van). I think your explanation was clear, succinct, and helpful, so I will share this video with others in the future when they seem confused by this issue.

I bought this last summer. And it will cool a van 10-12 degrees. Because I know many come here for information, I will just say after experimenting with various setups, you just must use the unit as instructed. My attempts to not vent the air intake just resulted in drastically reduced performance. When set up according to instructions and vented properly with the exhaust hose insulated, this thing works like a charm…putting out 46 degree chilled air!!! I dislike the time to set it up, but love that I didn’t need to drill holes anywhere in my van.

Literally more than half of the complaints are folks not hooking it up correctly. Everyone thinks they know better and try to run one hose. It really does work well in an Insulated space when installed correctly.

My biggest gripe is when using with a small tent, where you need to leave the unit outside the tent. The thermostat is on the outside of the tent. So the ac/heat doesn’t kick on and off automatically when the tent gets to the desired temperature because the unit is outside the tent. They need to have a plug in thermometer that can be placed inside the tent. Which I am surprised they don’t since they give you the connection to use with one of the tubes to allow you to pipe the air from the unit outside to the inside. Which also isn’t long enough for what I want to use it for, it’s 1’ to short.
@tracym427
@tracym427 7 ай бұрын
You would be much better off putting it inside so that it recirculates the tent air through the evaporator instead of the hotter air outside. Much more efficient that way.

Since Prime Day I ordered this after your review. With the battery add on. I also got the BLUETTI AC300 B300 x2 setup for 220V. I would have done the EcoFlow Delta Pro setup but the BLUETTI deal was just a tad better. Then bought the Anker Everfrost 50L with 299wh battery for $665. Seemed like the most bang for the buck today. Total across the 3 systems saved was $2285. For that amount of savings I can now get a lot of solar panel. If you can't tell I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to get off grid. Love your product reviews, so many options had portable solar panels. I need rigid, already have a number of portable. Now to see if a deal can be had on rigid panels...

I have been impressed with ECO flow lately. When I first saw them I think they were crowdfunding and I could never tel if they were going to produce anything. But I like this idea. Might try to em see if tying it with a couple of panels might work well at my cabin in northern Minnesota. My folks are in their 90’s and I would like to have a way to cool their room off. Of course a mini split could work as well. As you say this is truly portable. That is why they can charge higher. Good on them. I hope hey make good money as they come up with these ideas.

Bravo Professor Hobo, a Wowzer of a unit! We currently have a typical rooftop AC, that is 11,500btu, so can run it on 15amp. But its loud! Plus boondocking, we'd need a genny(currently gas), so even more noise plus smell. Will have to rewatch this to make sure it fits what we need, cuz it is some serious coin.❤️🙋‍♀️🛻🇨🇦‼️

great review, thank you. We use a single hose portable in our bedroom and I can confirm that insulating the hose makes a huge difference in the unit's cooling ability. Being dual hose with 2 closed loops, this unit will probably be quite efficient.

How do you insulate the hose?
@mikejosef2470
@mikejosef2470 7 ай бұрын
@@deniseboroughs1720I have a portable AC (single hose, AC power only so not portable like one of these, just room to room portable). Anyway, I insulated the hose by buying some aluminium exhaust fan ducting (the thin walled, very flexible type, not the semi rigid type). Its diameter is 3" more than the hose. I wrapped the hose in a cheap doona (I'm an Aussie... I think you call it a quilt or a comforter?). The really cheap ones, made of Dacron are best for this. I actually cut it so it wrapped neatly, and sewed it along the length so there were no gaps. I then taped the ends of the comforter "tube" to the ends of the hose (the hose was fully extended). The walls of the "comforter tube" are about an inch thick. Then, with considerable difficulty (swearing is optional but I found it satisfying if not particularly helpful) I slid the aluminium ducting over the whole thing. I then duct taped the aluminium ducting at the ends such that the tape goes from the outside of the ducting around the end and onto the inside of the hose at each end. It's crucial that the walls of the now insulated hose are airtight, so that when using the unit to heat the room, the cold air that flows through the hose to outside does not cause condensation in the insulation, mostly to avoid mould growth but also because a wet comforter is a bad insulator. Because the outer aluminium duct is slightly larger in diameter than the hose plus insulation, the hose still bends easily, and more importantly, it still shortens easily because the insulation still has room to bunch up. A shorter path for the air allows a better flow rate, and the scrunched up insulation is thicker so works even better. The insulation is superb... when the unit is on cooling mode, the duct feels barely warmer than if the unit were off. In heating mode I honestly can't feel any difference compared to when the unit is off. If you're not sure what I mean in any part of my instructions, just reply and I'll explain as best I can.
@SuperBardley
@SuperBardley 3 ай бұрын
. @deniseboroughs1720 Just buy some 6” insulated flex duct (used for exhaust fans), BUT do NOT make it longer than the OEM hose or you will screw up the unit.

Used almost 30% of the bluetti with less than 30 watts coming into the ac200max from solar. (Evening) So far pretty impressed. Already invested in the bluetti so the loss of wattage is a bummer but this is a better option than a mini split for my build. Would a cigarette 12vdc/10amp to solar chord make any difference in charging as opposed to using the AC port? There are 4 lights... cant stop saying it.

I have been using it for a while, and I really like such a small portable air conditioner. But I also see the disadvantages of this product. 1. Because the battery can not be charged separately, it must be connected to the air conditioner to charge, which is obviously unreasonable. For example, when I use up the battery outdoors, I have to carry the air conditioner together when I get to a place where I can charge the battery. At the same time, my husband and I had planned to buy two batteries for alternating use, but this product cannot charge the batteries separately. 2. This product can only use the battery and energy storage provided by Ecoflow, and cannot use the energy storage battery limited at home. The air conditioning and battery connectors are clumsy and easy to lose, which also widens the whole machine

I'd rather there wasn't a battery in it at all, but I guess they couldn't use the "solar" word. Smaller, lighter and batteries could be swapped out. If I wasn't mobile and needed a portable heat pump I'd probably grab a $300 dollar roll around one at Walmart and use an inverter.

When heating wouldn't the conversion loss be zero if the battery was in the same room as the Wave? As the 45 watts needed for conversion would lost as heat? So though minimal the unit would be more 45w more effective on AC.

I just bought this for camping music festivals, specifically upcoming in August Phish Mondegreen, but instant subscribe for the use of THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS! I’m going to a local Comic Con this weekend and meeting Jonathan Frakes and John de Lancie! I already met Frakes a few weeks ago at an expo in Huntsville (I’m from Alabama but don’t hold it against me 😂), and actually talked to Commander Will Riker about Phish because their producer used to live across the street from him, and from that connection, he ended up on a track from the Phish album, Hoist, called Riker’s mailbox. It’s essentially a 35ish second track of trombone and banjo and noise 😂 but he details the experience in a recent podcast. A cursory search of Jonathan Frakes story about Phish Hoist will likely do it. Anyway just thought it was funny that I bought this specifically for a Phish Phest, just recently met and talked to Jonathan Frakes about Phish, and then the first video I watch about the product has a TNG reference. It makes me feel like I made the right purchase 😂 thanks for the review.

I have been looking at adding a mini split to my off grid garage to off set the cost of heating with pellets(price has gone up a lot in two years) I already run a 5k btu window air so i will be replacing it with this unit and be getting year round benefits...the cost is substantial but i wont have any install costs like i would with a permanent mini so i feel this is a good value for me.

This is HUGE!!! Really looking into the possibility of getting the AC and an ecoflow or bluetti power station to pair with it, instead of getting the battery seperate. It comes to about the same price if you invest in the power station instead of the battery, and the versatility is what draws me in for that. I could also use the power station in a pinch for other things, but living in new mexico it would probably end up dedicated to the AC. Thanks so much for posting this review! so helpful!!

Nice thorough review. Good point about insulating the hoses. In fact insulation is really important for the space being heated/cooled if you want a long runtime. A tent has virtually no insulation and a car with all its window sitting in the sun takes a *lot* of cooling. My Chevy Volt with its electric AC uses about 1500W just to maintain 74F when sitting in Florida sun. I wish their next “innovation” would be lower prices though. This is a nice unit but it is essentially a 5000btu Window AC with a few extra bells and whistles. You can get those dirt cheap (

In the US it's nothing special, in the UK though we can only get mini splits or single hose portable air conditioners. No window units (our windows often aren't compatible, opening like a door) and no dual hose portable ACs. Would I pay £1000 for that? No, but if they came down to £500 maybe by dropping the DC input and battery support that'd be great.

We full time in our Winnebago. Last summer instead of replacing the basement AC unit that didn't work and needed 50 amps to run I pulled it all out. Ditched it for an ultra efficient GE window unit that I shoved into the basement hole the old unit sat in. The old unit had two compressors however and I know on hotter days we are gonna need a little more than just that GE. This seems like a perfect option for us, especially knowing it will run off our 24v off grid battery. Now we just have to wait a couple years until we can find a used one online.. 😂

28:57 - Running off of pure solar without some sort of battery buffer would be potentially dangerous for the condenser. Clouds or whatever blocking the solar panel would cause potential significant changes in power that could turn the condenser on and off and starve the condenser of the consistent power required.

@@randybobandy9828 Hope you enjoy the shorter lifespan of your unit. My key statement was “No battery”. A charged battery would protect the unit. Simple research will show tell you the same.
