It is a plant that grows in meadows or gardens. It has very thin and elongated leaves. It is usually green, but if it is dry, it can be yellow or brown. In Latin, _caespes, caespitem_ means "grass together with the ground it grows on; turf, lawn". It still means this in Portuguese and Spanish.
@javicruz9754 Жыл бұрын
Yes, in Spanish it's "cesped" although many of us Spanish speaking people call it "pasto" or "hierba"
@Unbrutal_Rawr Жыл бұрын
@@javicruz9754 Heh, I see. _pasto_ is originally what animals graze on, "pasture, fodder", and then by one extension "a field for grazing", and by another just "grass".
@javicruz9754 Жыл бұрын
@@Unbrutal_Rawr yes, we might use both terms interchangeably sometimes but when it comes to grass that is grown to feed livestock is called pasto, and cesped when it's grown for other purposes such as gardening.
@Unbrutal_Rawr Жыл бұрын
@@javicruz9754 That's cool, so the original distinction is still felt. When it comes to "grass" without the turf, Latin also has two words: _grāmen_ is exactly what's described in this video, collective nondescript grass, typically wild, while _herba_ refers either to an individual blade of grass, or to collective grass, but identifiable and often cultivated.

Its like Spanish spoken with random french sounding words. Somehow I find italian easier to understand as a Spanish speaker. But for different reason. In italian the subjects and cognates in the sentences sound more similar to Spanish but the grammar and articles are different. So I can infer what the sentence is about by mostly listening to the subjects and verbs while ignoring other parts. While in catalán the grammar and the articles in the sentence sound more similar to spanish but the subjects and cognates seem different. The way I could explain it is like this below in English. I am going to write gibberish below that explains how I perceive catalan to an English speaker. Spanish The cat has a toy Catalan The yuh has a uté Italian It cat tu toy

@@alejandror.planas9802If you want to take it like that then it’s better to say everyone is part of a sub-language family that belongs to Latin But the difference in here is that everyone is in a different group so some have easier to speak with one of the neighbors than the other one And here it makes sense you have a place like Catalonia close to Occitania in Southern France and near them Andorra And then the neighbor countries France, Italy with Gallo-Romance language And Spain, Portugal with Iberia-Romance
