Australian here, Western Australia in particular and cannot relate to a lot of American things about growing food unless they live in Arizona, California, places with hot, dry, low humidity environment etc. I love your channel for your clear plain speaking, clear demonstrative instructions around food and cooking, and your no nonsense child raising technique -with grace. I love that term. I am not religious, more a Universal Conscious type, but allowing someone grace in adapting, in learning? Priceless. It is such a misunderstood phrase and state. My boys are grown men but from around 6 or 7 knew how to put their clothes in the washing machine, and turn it on, washed dishes, learned to cook etc with us by their side. Admiration from the other side of the world, xx

Well said. My thoughts exactly. We as American have become fat and lazy. Not all but a good portion. When you tell anyone your preferred method of cooking and feeding your family many respond with I don’t have time for that. It a sad situation. I have tried to use Whole Foods and garden plus can goods and work a full time job. If I can did it it can be done. It’s all in your (want too) skills. I’m much older now but still follow what you are sharing here. I commend anyone that at least try’s. Great job to anyone that is trying to learn to do better. ❤❤❤❤

I absolutely agree, I do have choices so for me I love everything about your videos whether you're outside or inside you make my day. Wish you had been around when I was raising 5 children. I was raised on a farm so I grew up with milking cows, feeding chickens and learning how to use what we had and stretching things. But I've learned so much from you that would have helped even more. Four of my children were boys and I taught them how to cook and clean so they could either be a help with things when they married or they knew how to do these things while being bachelors. They didn't have to depend on marriage to take care of them. I think it's made them more aware of the work that goes into keeping a house and home. My daughter was the one who was stubborn and didn't care about those things she has become a late bloomer and likes to tell me that she is now doing things like I did. Anyway way just keep doing what you're doing I enjoy you so much, only wish I could come and visit and meet you in person and see your beautiful garden, animals and family.

If you don’t want to use plastic or disposables then modify the information to suit your needs. Many of us cannot afford expensive tools, and many cannot NOW, even if we once could have afforded them. I, for one, value and love honesty and common sense instead of "to make good food you just have to BUY THIS THING." You have some lovely tools, and what you dont have, you find a way around. You help us know how to find or make things that are just not in stores (healthy, no seed oils, etc.) I want to make my husband's lunches so he eats healthier and we dont spend so much at food trucks or unhealthy fast food. So THANK YOU once again.

My daughter has Chiari-I Malforation, which causes constant, debilitating migraines that are made even worse with “storebought” food additives, so we’ve always had to follow a “restricted” all-organic diet for her. Your tips on neat ways to make snacks/treats, ranch dressing powder, sandwiches and hot pockets is a true blessing from above, because, I’ve run out of ideas for making wholesome, but tasty meals that she can take with her to work in the ER, or while she’s caregiving for an ER physician’s family. I have to get up at 3 am so that her fresh, take-with meals are ready to pack for lunch before she leaves at 6am, so believe me when I say that these “make-ahead” ideas are a gift sent straight from Heaven!! You are absolutely amazing. Please please don’t EVER let any judgmental people rob you of your joy. They are pathetically full of negativity. Your way is your way and we do love the fact that you share these ways with us. You know, it’s the whole good against evil thing. Keep doing your thing, it’s fabulous! My mom always had a meat grinder, it attached to her table. She used it to make ham salad, to grind cranberries. I know it was used for more things but those are the two that really stick in my mind. I believe my brother still has it.

I learned a trick for keeping the bread from getting soggy. If you spread a thin layer of butter on the bread before putting your filling on, it’ll keep the bread from absorbing any extra liquid. They do this traditionally with little tea sandwiches.

I personally really appreciate that you are old fashioned. I have struggled to find women who are old fashioned as that is how I am trying to raise my family. I wasn't raised on home cooked meals as my mom was a single mother, but I am blessed to be able to stay at home, as my husband provides financially, and it is important to me to cook our meals. I have two plastic pie presses and I love them: instant meat or fruit hand pies. I never knew they came in metal so I ordered the one that you have on Amazon. Ruth Ann, you have the patience of Job, even with us KZbinrs. You must be doing something right on KZbin and Instagram because you have so many followers. You bring back the traditional ways of preparing foods and home style and I think maybe we should all take a step back and learn how to cook simpler. I'm 76 years old and was taught the traditional ways of baking and cooking meals; I still employ them and my family still says my cooking is better than store bought. So keep doing what you are doing; your family appreciates you. Great-grandma from Texas

Hiya Ruth-anne, I have just been watching your two part series all about canning and what a wealth of knowledge, I'm so disgusted that anyone would criticise you to the point that they would comment on your video's, I find it very difficult to understand how someone sitting the other side of a screen would have the audacity to comment on what is obviously years and years of tried and tested practices going back generations, you are offering information to the world for free and for some people that's just not enough!! As someone who doesn't come from a family who have grown and stored our food I find the way you teach very comforting , the world of homesteading is so foreign to me as I grew up in a city but it something I've been trying out for the past few years and you've totally taken away all the fear surrounding the world of canning and I'm very grateful to you for that. I hope these idiots don't stress you to much and please continue making your wonderful informative video's.
