It's extremely important to sand the edges of the bamboo canes!... Bees and solitary wasps have delicate wings and they'll be damaged by rough edges.

@@EverFlo777 They have different nesting habits. They don't go in because it's of no use to them. Well, except to rest temporarily. This has happened to me with our native paper wasps and it is so very cute!

Bad idea to hang it like that. the winds will be shaking those badly when strong and destroying the nests, brood etc.

Bad idea, plastic???? a porcelain beker wil do better. The bamboo ends need to be free of rough edges, also inside. And the bottom end needs to plugged, only one entrance.

I love this video, no expense, use what you have around the home, recycle for the wildlife, also good for a bug hotel, and informative video. Well done, I have already got these around my garden.

It will be important to cut the bamboo in a way to ensure one end is closed off entirely. Bees won't use a tube that is open on both ends. I've used paper tubes near the bamboo, and they were infected with parasitic wasps before I was able to collect the paper tubes and protect them. The bamboo ones were not infected, but I will need to replace them, because I don't see how to clean an reuse them.

Seems like mold and mildew will build up due to lack of evaporation or bee grubs will cook in hotter climates in poorly ventilated plastic bottles.

When you you think of bees, huge hives come to mind. These are social bees that live in huge colonies. This home is for solitary bees, of which there are thousands of species. You should definitely try making one!

There are two hemispheres: If you are in the Southern one face your hive (or your own home) north towards the equator. If you live in the Northern one face your hive sth towards the equator. This way so they get the most warmth during cooler months.

You don't. Did't you listen? This project is a 'home' for solitary bees. Honey bees make honey in a hive, which is a "colony" where a large group of insects work together. Solitary bees are...solitary. The clue is in the name. They store their own food (from pollen gathered) and each female performs every necessary task on her own.
