This week Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) lawmakers & parliamentarians visited Tacugama with the Minister of Tourism & Cultural Affairs as a part of this month’s ‘Travel & Hospitality’ themed tourism initiative in Sierra Leone to encourage more travel within the country.
This was the first time for most of the parliamentarians to witness chimpanzees up close. They got to learn about their behaviour and some of the challenges they face. The ECOWAS speaker, hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis expressed an eagerness to encourage support for sanctuaries like Tacugama doing important conservation work to protect the Western Chimpanzee.
The Ministry of Tourism and Tacugama are working together to increase exposure to Sierra Leone’s natural wonders and encourage eco-tourism to both internationals and nationals.
