Bought an Fpace for cheap. Pulled the supercharger, 24$ coupler upgrade and supercharger oil change. Swapped all coolant pipes for metal versions. Cost $180 total and 4 hours of my time (Jag wanted $3800). Purs like a kitten now with no leaks.

You're entirely true about this guys rock solid subjectivity. I've watched 20 to 25 hours of slick You Tube reviews on the Jag F P , but nothing can compare to this unscripted, unedited, first cut original critique. I almost cancelled my pending F Type purchase after the first 5 minutes of repair fear. But then, he articulated the key point; they've depreciated below competition costs, but now have a renewed level of reliability under Tata. And then he said that he owns one. His tech knowledge was solid. And the best thing about the review was that it had edge. I'm from Alberta, now in Arizona and instead of seeing reviews set amongst lovely English country sides; this one was dead of winter, with dusty cars waiting for work caked in snow , grit and road salt. This was the review that makes me confident in my upcoming purchase. Good job dude. Thanks for keeping it real. (The reason why Jag owners report so many issues is primarily because - they hammer their vehicle ! Like my dad always said, ' if you take care of your equipment it will take care of you.)

Jaguar enthusiast here. I have been driving famous Jaguar XJ6 (X300) for over 15 years now. My 1st car in high school 1996 Vanden Plas lasted me for 15 years and clocked 380,000 miles. My daily driver now a 1995 Jaguar Xj6 is to 100,000.00 miles on the clock now- no engine, tranny , or differential issues at all. My weekend cruiser a 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas just hit 170,000.00 miles.- no issues All 3 cars combined cost less than $10,000.00. Yearly maintenance cost: $250 to $500 max. I do the work myself and I am comfortable enough to say that these were the best cars to own and drive.

I love Jaguars. I had a old 2003 Jaguar S-Type . I bought it used & I was able to drive it for 7 or 8 years without any problems. Around the 7th year of me having it I had to get a new fuel pump but that was it. The car ran smooth & that was the only problem I had. I probably would still be riding it today if it didnt get stolen.

It does take a certain appetite for risk to buy one of these used. Even when they're working fine, those supercharged engines drink a lot of fuel, and even basic services like oil changes are more expensive than average. That being said, I've had my XKR for a year and a half now, and it's been pretty fuss-free. It doesn't act like a pampered princess. It starts every time and gets me where I need to go without issue. In terms of reliability it's certainly been better than some other cars I've had, though I recognize I may just be lucky and my experience may not be everyone's. I still see buying a used Jag as a lottery - you may hit the jackpot and get one that doesn't give you any issues in which case they're tremendous value for money, or you may get one that becomes your worst nightmare. May the odds be ever in your favor.

I bought my XJL during the height of the used car apocalypse over 2 years ago for less than a same year Honda accord w/ leather interior. As one that does their own repair work, I find these cars are not horrible to work on and if you are willing to do a bit of looking, most parts can be obtained for decent prices. I've owned 4 Jags now, and the Ford era and newer have been pretty good to me. In reality my XJL was designed under Ford, and there is a lot of carry over from the Ford era in the current generation cars. The one exception is the 2011 XJ my eldest bought, it has some weird communication issues between the modules that didn't get noticed on our test drive that are a bit of a nuisance and the only fix is to take it in and have the BCM reprogramed. So they are just driving it for now and we will fix it someday.

Fell in love with Jaguar in my youth riding in my aunt's '69 E-Type convertible. Owned a '98 XJ-L and currently own an '11 XF 5.0 V8. Constant problems with both. Anything on the vehicles that is constructed of plastic or rubber has fallen apart, disintegrated, cracked, leaked, etc. Went through 2 coolant reservoirs and a coolant inlet in 2 years on the XF. The parts cost triple what other manufacturers cost and due to low sales volumes, third party parts producers don't make much for Jaguar, so often hard to find OEM+ upgrade replacement parts. You often have to settle for the doomed to fail Jaguar original stuff. That being said, they are FAR more luxurious than any of the competitors (BMW, M-B, Lexus, Audi). Ice cold AC, freezing cold ventilated seats, phenomenal leather, padding, and bolstering in the seating, and plush suede. When they're running well, they are the perfect balance of luxury and sportiness, and excel at chewing up highway miles at 85mph in insulated bliss. If you can wrench and source parts yourself or have an affordable British/Euro mechanic, they are great. If not, STAY AWAY.

Jags are really dependent upon specific engines/years. The x300 era of 95-97 are built like tanks and main issue is rust over time. The 4.0 litre v8s late 90s-03 had timing chain tensioner issues. The 4.2 litre v8 until 2010 is solid. The early Stypes are not very good; the later ones are pretty good. 5.0 litre v8s and early SC v6 2010-2913 have timing chain tensioner issues (again). The Turbo I4 is suspect subject to early engine wear. The later 5.0v8 is quite good.

At least in the US market, it's best to buy a Jaguar brand new as a build-to-order, and drive it for at least 10 years. It worked out beautifully for me for two models (2012 XF V8, and 2022 F-Type P450 RWD). The first 5 years are covered by full warranty and complete cost-free maintenance in the US market. By the tenth year of the car ownership, any Jaguar models have held up better or have similar depreciation rates than BMW's, Mercedes, and Audi's for similar mileage examples. Furthermore, in my experience, owning the car from the beginning (preferably, build-to-order ones) ensures that the "previous" owners did not abuse the car or skip on important maintenance items. You'd be amazed how many cars get neglected or abused by the first owner, especially if it is a leased vehicle.

I bought a used 2007 S-Type 8 yrs ago. Since then the Jag had performed beyond my expectations. It's been the most reliable car I've ever owned, and at 78 yrs old, I've owned a lot of cars. I still have the original front brake pads. At 17yrs old my Jag still turns heads, and it's a blast to drive!

while I love Jaguar, admittedly, it does suffer from it's fair share of maladies, but apart from the Japanese brands, it's no worse than it's other European counterparts. There's far fewer Jaguars on the road so statistically a few problems translates into a higher % failure rate. 5 Jaguars failing when 100 is sold is 5% vs 5 BMW's in a market that has 1000 ! Jaguar still makes some of the most wonderful cars.

Jaguar isn't more or less reliable then any other luxury brand in it's class. I have seen many BMW Mercedes and Audi broken down on the side of the road. There some cars of all makes and models that are just put together very poorly from start to finish, but overall reliability depends on the owner of the vehicle.

The relaibilyt actually quite the opposite with the XE. The on that had the ford engine 2015-2017 are the most reliable ones. At least in the UK. The Ingenium engines are famously bad, there is a serious issue with the timing chain quality. It is so bad, that there are companies that specialised on that. It cost a good £2000- 2500. If you buy one, it is better if you start with that and then you might have a reliable car.

I alwwys enjoy your videos. I find that Jaguar is still suffering their credibility that was destroyed way back when they were owned by British Leyland. Ford changed all that, and i think their bad reputatoon is obsolete. My F-type R has performed flawlessly for years. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I had a Corvette Z06 with the mighty LS7 and was told it was a ticking time bomb, as it would drop one of those huge valves and destroy the engine. Never happened. The big V8 in my SL63 AMG is also supposed to be a brick waiting to happen. 13 years and still no problem. Perhaps I have just been lucky, but i'm enjoying premium cars that i bought at deeply depreciated prices.

You are totally right, its the old reputation that hurt the Jag brand the most. Far more than reality and my experience has also been at least as reliable as anything else from the likes of Benz or Bimmer and honestly so far even better. A little maintenance keep abuse off the table and they will run for a long time.

Isn’t it funny how people will just not let go of the past, even though the true reality is that modern jags are pretty good. The other complicating factor that haunts them beyond their past is the current reality that there are quite a few problems on the Land Rover Range Rover side of the house. So perhaps they get some reliability guilt by association. It’s seems odd that the LR RR side would be so much worse for issues, but it is.

Growing in the Northeast, I remember the Popular Luxury Vehicles people Drove in the 80s and early 90s where the Yuppies definitely had the BMW & Mercedes, Snooty Elites had the Saabs & Volvo and the Mafia or Pastors of Churches had their Cadillac & Lincoln. And Drug Dealers Drove a little bit of everything 😆. And all other Luxury Vehicles fell in between. But I do remember seeing a lot of Jaguars back then. I kinda believe that when Lexus & Infiniti came out ,there was a shift of Options. By the Early 2000s when Jaguar came out with the Ugly Twins the X and S Type it started going down Hill from there. I rarely see a lot of Jags on the road anymore. They are kinda like what Audi's used to be at a stop light. What is that?...lol Jags are still beautiful Cars. But the only one I've ever considered was just something simple and thats a pre owned XE.
