No, she really was his betrothed, as their fathers had been discussing it and had already come to an agreement. The moment they cemented their relationship, she abruptly leaves with nary an explanation, leaving him to form the worst case scenario cooked up by his inherent self-deprecation and low self-esteem. It is the worst form of a psychological blow he could take, to be betrayed and abandoned by someone who professed and displayed her love to him. It's simply beyond his comprehension and he can't get over it.

They're going very realistic with how Rudy has to sort through his issues by making it a process. He has fear of abandonment, so he distances himself and tries not to get attached emotionally, tries to make himself likeable at the same time, and is dealing with depression as well. Tough times for the boy, thankfully Soldat is a bro (even if the drinking wasn't the best idea).

And as of right now, there's no one like that. Roxy is not around/probably wouldn't wanna be with him as he's still only like 14-15 (which IS an adult in this world but she's like in her 40s). Eris is gone and Sylphie is with that princess. I think Rudy is leaving that town/area though with Soldat's party, so i don't think he'll run into Sara again.

Roxy's ideal type is a youthful human male, so I think Rudeus is in her strike zone already. There's a side story set when she and Elinalise were searching in Rikaris, and she noted that demons don't generally find Migurd attractive, while some humans do. That's why she told Elinalise her ideal partner has to be a human, preferably of the Asuran idea of attractive.
