It's rare to have a show like this where the characters play off each other so wonderfully.

my favorite portrayall of the eds' personalities is the scene where they have a fence and they have to get through it Eddy leaps over the fence. It's a rather tall fence for a kid of his height, and the door to the fence is right there. But that's missing the point from Eddy's pov, the point is to break the rules because the rules are there to be broken. Regardless of the personal cost or the higher amount of effort required, Eddy MUST break the rules. Double D opens the door and closes it behind him. Nevermind that Ed is coming up from right behind him, and it would be more expedient to leave the door open for his friend, Double D's fastidious nature dictates that he must leave everything exactly as he found it. And Ed, in true slapstick fashion, warps through the hole in the fence door like it's a drain. His childlike nature and full embracing of his slapstick caricature means that nothing can stop him when he sets his mind to something.

I would love to watch a breakdown of all the people from Ed, Edd, and eddy. I really loved this show when i was younger.

Truth be told to survive in this world you need the key traits of all 3 characters in this show, "Eddy's drive for power/Money, Edd's Intellect/Carefulnature and Ed's Strength

Ed was always my favourite character, mainly because he's hilarious and over the top. But I also have very spoiled younger sisters that would use the wrath of my parents against me constantly. Unrelated, my favourite Ed moment: I don't remember the episode, but there's one bit where Ed tries to demonstrate that he has an idea....so he yanks a handful of grass (taking a LARGE pile of soil with it), holds it above his head and says "It is a light bulb....BOING!!" On the one hand, I see where his logic is going....on the other....WTF, Ed???

I loved this show as a kid, maybe as a kid I did not know why, but as an adult I have realised it's because of its vivid animation and over the top situations similar to Courage the cowardly dog, adding to the concept of best friends in a cul-de-sac with their adventures which is how most children can relate to after their school hours. Recess and Arthur also had the same concepts but there was something different about Ed, Edd and Eddy. This video explained exactly what was different. THANK YOU FOR THIS!

Hahah thanks, dinner is the time I spend watching youtube vids as well 😆 I don't know what subs I do or don't deserve but comments like these are what I cherish most. It's all an important reminder that there are so many nice people out there, even if the news is eager to convince us there isn't.

i'm more astounded that this show aired outside north america, it is so couched in the suburban neighborhood subdivision development culture here that is a key factor to its charm, to letting some things about the show slide that wouldn't be tolerated in other cartoons without more clear context for the viewer....if someone still gets enjoyment out of it, great. but I just cant see how someone from oh i dunno, spain, or scotland would really connect with this eccentric show if they didn't understand the show's backdrop. it would just be a squiggly line mess of surreal physical comedy. . .
@mylittlethoughttree4 жыл бұрын
Well I don't know what North America's like, but the cul-de-sac here never felt too different from my own upbringing in an English suburban neighbourhood. There was certainly a lot I always related to anyway, even if it won't be as much

I loved Ed, Edd and Eddy as a child, I remember looking forwards to visiting my friends who had cartoon network, since we didn't have it at home! Thanks for bringing the show to my attention again, I will have to rewatch it now as an adult to see if I enjoy it just as much!

I really like this video... I’ve been sitting here for 2 hours trying to make a natal chart for the Ed eddy eddy characters cause it bored and I like this kinda stuff... I was trying to guess their zodiac signs, and for eddy I feel he’s either Scorpio, Aries or Leo... I’ve eliminated Scorpio because, Ed is either fire or air and they get along well, so I figure eddy is a fire sign... I’ve always said Aires for his temper... but Leo can have a bad temper too and he displays all the bad sides of a Leo. And his inner desire to be loved and accepted is one... I’m a Leo and I feel this all the time... though I try to get my attention by serving and being nice to others instead of manipulating like eddy. The way he thinks he should act to get what he want is all wrong. He is misdirected in his efforts or recognition...

I loved watching Ed, Edd and Eddy when I was younger, so I’m always excited when I see a video analyzing their characters, being some of the most well-rounded characters I’ve watched. Being in lockdown, definitely plan to rewatch it and see how I experience it compared to when I was younger. Keep up the good work, look forward to the next vid.

Thanks for the support, glad you're enjoying them. I don't know if I will get big or not yet but, I can't deny, this channel feels like a very exciting thing in my life right now. Not so much in an ambitious sense, just it feels really exciting to be doing something that people seemed to be interested in. On the topic of backstory, the show pretty much explains snipits of their backstory both by character interaction and visuals, never just explaining it. Even Eddy explaining that his brother wasn't actually the cool guy he said was first shown before Eddy admitted it. There is a common theory, if you could even call it that, that the three Eds are victims of abuse and this isn't because a character mentioned something but because of what is shown. We see Ed live in a disgusting basement, be the victim of favoritism and can have legit nightmares about his mom. We see Double D's parents only talk to him with sticky notes, even to the point of not personally telling him that the shower is being remodeled so he only learns that when he almost falls through the hole where the bathroom use to be. For Eddy its more subtle but in the episode where he lied about his older brother coming to town, when Sarah and Jimmy pretended to be his brother, Eddy was evidently frightened by him which is odd since he typically worships him. We get to know how their home lives are through just watching the characters be themselves in the specific situations the episodes give them. How they sound like and their 'funny hats' build a backstory far better than any exposition would which makes the Eds far more interesting as characters. Essentially, show don't tell which Ed Edd and Eddy does well.

I got interested in that masterclass because of this video, but it's 200 euros just for one class (because apparently you used to be able to buy one class for 90 bucks, but now you HAVE to buy a whole subscription for a year, which is outrageous), so it's kind of closed off to me, because I can't afford 200 euros for a 5 hour course :(
@mylittlethoughttree3 жыл бұрын
yeah, it's a great masterclass, but I cannot ever possibly reccommend paying the extortionate prices they charge. It's just ridiculous. Personally, I think people in that sort of position should feel some sense of duty to want to freely offer their support and advice for the future generation of writers. If you're able to get it from a friend or...some other means...though, it is a good set of videos

@@mylittlethoughttree Hey, thanks for the answer. I really don't think it's Neil Gaiman's fault, he really did his best to give a good class I think (I love the guy), it's just that this company that produced the videos has really shady business practices, that also appear to get worse over time. I also bet he's contractually forbidden to repeat the same lessons on another platform. Anyway, I love your videos! To me personally you are one of the most valuable channels on youtube, because you broaden my horizon with every video.

Back story should only exist to the extent that it directly has an effect upon how the character behaves within a story. Any good editor will cut out the excess. Now, in fanfic? Go wherever you want.
@learn2draw7163 жыл бұрын
What about character interactions or memories triggered by situations or environment? Make it more subtle. Why not have the characters explain the backstory be an unreliable narrator?
@ZootWorld13 жыл бұрын
@@learn2draw716Speaking of subtlety, Ed Edd n Eddy was brilliant in how it established a sufficient amount of backstory for the characters by basically having tidbits of information spread out throughout the show that was mostly in the background, like a trail of breadcrumbs that the viewer then pieced together. No unnecessary drama or time was ever wasted in the series, which gives so much more substance to it for being a wacky cartoon show.
