Look at Richard Hammond's wife Mindy - she's older than him, was working when he was unemployed, still got with him anyway, after a romantic weekend away in a tent on a windswept rain-soaked hillside... endured and survived years of poverty with him... and when he got his big lucky break, she wasn't the one demanding toys... even the small matter of him recovering from a 288mph brain injury was just a blip in the road of life for her. Even now, they live in comfort rather than ostentation, in a glorified farmhouse older than the USA, hundreds of miles from media luvvie London... maybe it's different in big American cities like Atlanta and LA, maybe American women are just more materialistic... but over here we as a nation have a make do and mend approach that has got us through two world wars in which our civilian populace was directly bombed, unlike in the US. Maybe there's a fundamental difference in the collective national psyche, but the few American women I've known have been far from gold diggers.

I don't remember much and I'm glad. I had my buck's night two days prior, had my drink spiked, ended up in bed for 36 hours, and had a oculo-gyric crisis to the antinausea drug I was injected with. I've told my sons that your buck's night is the event where all your mates let you know you've betrayed the brotherhood by getting married, and your wife is now your only friend. 37 years later and she still hasn't forgiven them!

That's how I got my first real exotic car, a 2.5 y/o used rosso corsa w/ nero, manual, 360 Modena. Only I didn't have a car rental business, that was a smokescreen, the truth was I had a somewhat unstable income based on consulting work. If everything worked out, I could easily make the payments for the car, and if not, it would end up being repoed by the lender. Although events didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked, due to a few cancellations and some rescheduling, with some luck (and careful budgeting/creative accounting) I was technically able to make all the payments on time. I don't know what was more exciting, driving the car or coming up with the money to pay for it. 😆 I've had several other Italian exotics since, and to this day it's still the most reliable one.
