Explaining the concept of the video, Ed said: "I wanted to make a video inspired by movies like Harvey, where the main character has an imaginary friend who’s a giant rabbit that no one can see. There’s also a book I read my daughters where sadness is encapsulated by an imaginary creature. "Often sadness is something that follows you around, engulfing the rooms you’re in, and you can feel and see it, but no one else around you can. So, I decided to create my own big blue monster for the video. "He gets bigger and bigger as the video goes on, ‘til he takes up whole rooms, and is all I can see, just like sadness."💙

Thanks - also explains the other similar characters in the mv, as the sadness that other people are feeling. People with talent, like Ed Sheeran, that can express things so well are, imo, like modern day poets, that help people like me to understand things that i feel but dont know how to recognise them or put them into words myself. Realy diverse, but Nothing But Thieves and G Dragon lyrics have moved me the same way.

the blue creature represents his sorrow and his sadness for the loss of his friend jamal. it follows him around just like near the end a white creature is following this girl around. the creatures represents our feelings and how feel, thats why the creature following the girl around is white while ed is blue which represents sadness…… the title eyes closed also means that he doesnt really want to face his sorrow and sadness but at the end he ended facing his feelings
