Since making my first knife a few months ago, I've been itching to make another. I'd been thinking about a leather stacked handle and when Joey from Kingpost Timberworks asked if I could make him an EDC(every day carry) knife I went for it. KIngpost Timberworks Channel kzbin.info/door/MwkFVvmhR6JmDgdWkio2kA I enjoyed this as much as the first one I made. Making knives is fun!

With some luck he might have some Rimu cut-offs laying around from one of his last projects. You could use them for handle-blanks or even a SWC... (If shipping Rimu scraps is actually allowed)

You make some pretty ingenious jigs, but the one set up for your angle while filing the edge was next level. Unbelievable!

Samuel Gabrielson thats just a standard Aaron gough jig with a tiny bit of modifications. Pretty common in the knifemaking world

I never cease to be amazed by the quality of your craftmanship. To look at your finished product, I wouldn't have guessed that it was made with basic hand tools. There are workers with high dollar CNC equipment that can't match your quality made with hammers, hacksaws, files and sandpaper. You sir, are a true craftsman. I subscribe to several hundred channels but yours is one of only a small handful that I always check every new video when it comes out. Outstanding work again!

You just combined all my favorite things to do. I've been leather working for a couple of years. Woodworking for even longer. An just recently started tinkering with knife making. So this is definitely one I'm gonna try an put my own spin on. Your craftsmanship is next level for sure. An this is probably the coolest project out of any I've seen on KZbin. Just amazing an I feel challenged to step it up after watching. Simply awesome an your the man. God bless, brother

I've made many things like this by hand and appreciate all the time and dedicated craftsmanship that went into such a lovely knife ( let alone the super video documentation). I totally understand the reluctance to part with a creation that has so much time and care and skill invested in it...unless... the next one will be better and kept!

Very nice thank you again. I always pick up a new bit of kit while watching your videos. I have modified wrenches, made them thinner and resized them for my needs. But I'll be darned if I ever thinned down the wall of a socket just never thought to do that. And I have a full drawer of extra sockets. I worked at a place I could see across ten lanes of very busy highway from home. I would walk a mile to an underpass along a feeder road then another mile to work. I picked up tools and other miscellaneous stuff every day. I guess they were falling out of truck beds. I did this for 2 years. Many of the tools where guaranteed for life so if they where a bit worn and the damage didn't void the warranty I took them in and traded for new ones. Snap on, Proto, craftsman and a few others. Now I look for the stuff at yard sales. You can buy a set of tools for a few bucks and upgrade the worn tools.

Cool little knife. I have a knife I got from my dad that is from the 1960's and it has a leather wrapped handle. Best I can tell, the tang goes all the way through the handle. It's a really cool knife. Good to see this technique is still being used.

For EDC use, an opinel is best choice, practical, safety ring locking both open and close blade position, standard quality product, various sizes fitting every palm, cheap enough to use it without fear of losing it or damage it as it can be replace with the same one for 10some euros, various types of blade shapes stainless or not and handle material, easy to diy customize. That's a serious tool...

Great build, Neil. My dad made a leather stacked handled hunting knife when he was in high school (in the '60's) that is still in our family today. A bit more crude than the beauty you worked up there, but a testament to the durability of the leather handle.

It's hard to argue against the effectiveness of a file and this setup. I have a 2x48 belt grinder that I need to set up, but am thinking about getting a large file like this to take the bulk of the material off first AND it looks like it sets the angle really well.
