I lived in Luton for 10 years from 10 till 21 it was fine still have friends down there. The chicken shops are decent down there. There used to be a cinema in the town centre has that gone now ?

I used to be a 'Chugger' (charity fundraiser) 😅 I did it for 7 years and have worked all over the UK travelling to a new area every week and a different town or city every day. In that 7 years, I only ever went to Luton once but I got more sign ups there than any other place in the entire UK within that 7 years. The people don't have alot but they were certainly willing to give!

I googled whats good about Luton, the results (no joke) "Luton has great high-speed travel into Central London, access to key roads, and easy access motorways and Luton Airport".XD The good thing is you can leave in MANY ways.

I stayed at that Thistle Express the night before an early morning flight, and my experience of Luton pretty much exactly mirrored yours 😂 Worst part was that I’d arrived late afternoon, so even the shops in the mall were starting to shut - and once they’d gone, there was truly nothing to do except wander round in circles like a pigeon with a head injury

I lived in Luton for a year, not out of choice, more out of circumstance. Constant sirens throughout the night, neighbours playing music until 3am, nothing to do, just kebab shops, never knew whether what I was hearing was fireworks or gunshots.

04:01 - I mean it's not exactly a shining example but Glasgow has a funfair in the centre (St Enoch's Square) just outside the station during the festive season. Paisley also too during Christmas time.

I remember that hotel in the late 90’s (Thistle Luton, before they realised tacking ‘express’ on managed expectations better) and it boasted the cheapest bar in the town centre, opening out into that delightful area where the fun fair was. Double Vodka Redbulls and change from a £2 coin! The street drinkers were the main customers alongside the occasional lost-looking overseas business person, who had inexplicably found themselves in Luton. There’s really not much to say in Luton’s defence. (Even the airport is shite)

The little town I grew up in, Carlisle, Kentucky, had a couple of interesting characters who always walked the streets. One of them was nicknamed Skillet, and the other one was nicknamed Pork Chop 😂. Thanks for making me remember them Ed 🙌

I know right.. of those towns only Bradford makes sense. You could make an argument for Portsmouth maybe, but none of these cities are poor and they`re all based in the South. In terms of deprivation the poorest places in the UK are almost exclusively outside of the South of England.

Lived in Luton most of my life. Move away 10 years ago but had to come back last year for my dad's funeral. The place has got even worse than when i was there last. What is it with all the takeaway and kebab places in the Arndale centre?!? Highlight of the visit was watching the Romanian gypsy wives having a fight, outside the town hall, whilst hanging onto their kids and the husbands trying to split them up, as the alcoholics were cheering them on outside Don Miller's 0:08

Back in the 1970s and '80s people from towns like Hitchin, Stevenage and St Albans would go to Luton because it had a wider range of shops than those towns. Since then, the town centre has declined so much that almost no-one from those places would ever come there now.

You should come and visit the Buckinghamshire area. I do a lot of journeys to somewhere called High Wycombe so in between the journeys I see a lot of the more photogenic parts of the county and Buckinghamshire is actually a typical but beautiful English countryside county outside of the bigger towns. The smaller than your expected towns of Amersham, Marlow, Beaconsfield and Princes Risbrough are nice places dotted around the beautiful South Bucks-Chiltern Hills. There are a massive portion of pubs and restaurants in my area and many in the Chilterns with much better views of the countryside. In fact the pubs here are lovely in the valleys and the there's plenty of walking and camping spots. Just don't bother with the three bigger towns they're depressing, especially Milton Keynes that although has decent shopping it is an over hyped dump that from above looks like a giant international airport terminal (aka concrete jungle).

You should go to Plymouth in Devon! Someone once told me (though I'm sure it's not true) that after WWII they had so much excess concrete they built Plymouth as its all grey and concrete! You should visit they do have a good sea life aquarium at least
