Prime X Strung has become my “everyday” trainer and I love it

Prime X and Superblast are great versatile trainers for a bit older knees past their prime I suppose. They should take care of the medial knee pain you get for no reason after running. The Superblast price wise and weight wise is the winner.

The Prime X is incredible for taking the load off the achilles, and they are durable, took a while to get used to the instability, not for the weak ankled! The stack height sends instability up the leg, to the hip. My right hip didn't like them, so I had to rotate them a lot after a while. If they were a little bit lower I'd be all over them.

This is exactly how it went for me as well. I switched to the takumi sen 8 just because of the occasional uncomfortable runs.

I just did some 8 x 400m repeats on the Superblast. Amazing. It’s incredible how trampoline-like it is. It doesn’t collapse and rebounds fast. For a 45mm stack shoe, it’s ridiculous. Quite light for its size. Very stable too due to the wide platform. Definitely a super trainer. If I’m on vacation and want just one shoe to take for training and walking around: Asics Superblast.

Me too. I’m only 5’3”, 100 lbs. too much mass for my body mass. The new Cloudsurfer has all the softness and cush I need, is very light and nimble at the same time and lets me run with my natural biomechanics.

Love the review and you have never steered me wrong! I really enjoyed the NovaBlast 2, after seeing this review I am going to pull the trigger on the Superblast. I typically train in stability shoes (almost always BROOKS) so I appreciate your opinion the stability features of the shoe. I like to once or twice a week run in a "fun" shoe, the NovaBlast, The Aurors BL. I am hoping the Superblast can be that shoe that can my fun shoe but also a "go to" for good workout also.

Thank you for the review! Was looking forward to such a comparison. I’ve got the Prime X and SC trainer. Two different shoes… The PrimeX is my numero uno! Fortunately got the SC Trainer at a bargain so no love lost there. It’s a sloppy shoe. Will try the Super Blast soon.

Really liking my Nimbus 25’s, the 4th pair of Nimbus shoes I’ve used in a row. Mostly because the gel doesn’t pop with thorns and I enjoy being off-road in Africa. Previously used the Nike vamero but that used to pop within a day to maximum a week so after many popped pairs I made the change and haven’t looked back, except for responsiveness and weight. I found the Nimbus 23 heavy and unresponsive but cushioning great, the 24 was a great improvement and much more versatile use, the 25 has a lovely feel, the best of them all in terms of cushion and response but I do feel the weight when I try to push the pace a little. So I’m going to try the superblast and see how that goes. Especially for longer track sessions, I just can’t use spikes to train anymore but I still want to run 20 x 400m and crazy runs like that and heavy shoes just don’t cut it.

That’s one thing the nimbus has over others. Lots of that more dense foam will always be more durable.

The Superblast is the only one out of these shoes that I don't have. Since I have multiple pairs of the Prime X Strung that I rotate evenly, I haven't found the need to spring for the Superblast - yet. I use the Nimbus 25 and SC Trainer only for the real easy and slow days when my legs and feet feel beat up. Obviously, I'm curious about the Superblast but I'm inclined to save the money and wait for the Prime X Strung 2.

So Prime X Strung takes all the categories (no surprises there) even on price now as going on mega sale for £160 or under (I got mine for £130!) At that price, you get the best shoe all around, you really can't lose. What a shoe! Can't wait for Prime X Strung 2, seen the pics on those, Ed?! Wow!

I've thought seriously about the Superblast and the Nimbus, as well as the Magnify Nitro 2 (only 40mm). I like a cushioned shoe to protect my old joints but with a little responsiveness. Stable neutral and the ability to retire it to a "standing on my feet all day" shoe are also significant considerations. This is an odd grouping though, having the Nimbus (a cruiser) in with some "supertrainers" based on the arbitrary 40mm limit, when the SC Trainer v2 wouldn't even fit the grouping.

Yeah the nimbus is a bigger more impact protection like shoe. Walked 36k steps in the superblast on Saturday then got a 10k pb in the metaspeed sky the next day. That tells you all you need to know :)

First run in the Superblast last night. I’m reserving judgement as it was pissing it down out of nowhere and they felt pretty heavy by the end of the run. Didn’t set the world on fire like the first run in something like the Mach 5 though!

Picked up the Prime X Strung a few months ago for just over $200 Canadian when Adidas does one of their bonkers sales but I have yet to try them out. A shin injury took me out for a bit and I’ve been taking it easy coming back to running. I ran a 5k race with the injury but that required doses of Ibuprofen before and after.

I loved the SC trainer, for it's soft and stable ride for a running or walking shoe, but the heel rub killed it, so it had to go. The Prime X Strung was fun and bouncy but just a little unstable so I bought the Adidas Pro 3 and that is fantastic. The Nimbus 25 was too clunky in the heel so I bought Cumulus 25 which is better, particullrly for walking.

So where’s it going to end Ed? How high will stack heights have to get before we all start falling off them? It was 2005 when Nike released the free run and told us that running in minimalist shoes was the future. Loads and loads of injured runners later we’ve seen midsole stacks slowly increasing ever since. Perhaps we have to wait until the reverse happens and the mass injuries return because we’ve just got too much underfoot before they all start coming back down again? One things for sure as long as there’s a market the companies will keep pushing and we’ll keep buying. Great highlighting work again Ed 👍

My 40+ experiment with the NB Supercomp is over after about 150 miles. Ended up with posterior tibial tendonitis and now into my sixth week of recovery & physio. Whilst I absolutely loved the feel I could just never get the stability - OK for shorter runs but too much height & weight for longer easy runs which I bought them for. There again, being 5'5" and the weight of a wooden peg I suppose it was always going to be a match made in hell. These max height beasts are not for me. Got to get these ankles stronger :)

Edd! I've been with you a bit of time. I'm an old guy who has been fortunate to run and qualify for three Boston Marathons...seven minutes under my standard in 2023. I did run the first two in NB 1400 flats and 2023 in Nike Vaporfly 2 percents. I get the allure of these high and soft shoes. I'm sorry but they don't represent running and racing to me. Some of these max cushioned shoes seem to be bypassed for us UK 13/13.5 (US 14) and larger feet runners. Superblast & Prime X Strung stops a size less. Have enjoyed the regular Prime X in my "TTS" however but it is rather heavy so legal or not only a long run cruiser for me. Otherwise they just feel overly bulky anyway as I found with the Invincible and presume that does not "count". Interesting about whether stack heights change for us in larger sizes. Not convinced they do in every shoe TBH or at least by varying amounts.

I managed to score a UK 12.5 as they suggest going down a half size in the prime X Strung ...im a big fan of the Alphafly 1 in us 14...hoping it'll be a similar fit. Got a marathon in 5wks so will see if can run a 2:58 ish.

Totally agree re the Asics shoes Edd, 230nmiles in my nimbus 25 now and still going strong. Supremely comfortable but on the heavy side. 55 miles in my Superblasts and love them really light, supportive and comfortable. Expensive but got 25% off them on an easter discount code
