Favorite player ever! Lucky enough to see his whole career. Funny how he says about his 500th HR " It was nice to get that out of the way". Best Oriole ever! & that bomb in the ALCS in 83 after being thrown at was one the most memorable in my life

I was listening to the game on the radio that night. If I recall correctly, shortly before the home run, Eddie hit what would have been a double down the line but it was ruled a foul. It certainly worked out well! BTW- Eddie was my favorite Oriole when he was on the team.

I spent my childhood worshipping this man, replicating his stance in the batter’s box whether in little league or wiffleball (wallball) with friends. That open faced uncoil swing was so beautiful. I wanted to be everything like Eddie. Got to see him play in Anaheim 1985 the day he hit 3 homeruns, and almost a 4th that went to the warning track. Angel Stadium chanting EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE as he gave us a curtain call to this day gives me goosebumps.

I get “nice to get that out of the way”. As a musician if a big performance was coming up, you felt responsible to live up to the moment, which adds so much pressure (about 1 millionth the pressure that was on Eddie), but there was a sense of relief when it was over.

The last years of a long era of success for the Os. I was at the game they lost to Cleveland to send the Indians to the WS. Then that terrible ownership started making their terrible decisions. And all these years later this once great franchise sucks. I still root for them. But man it's been a dry spell.
