Album: Every Mother Counts (2012)
Lyric:
Didn't have to ask you, just took my hand
Off we went skipping throughout the land
The sky was blue and the blood filled my head
Me and you skipping throughout the land
All of my life from beginning to end
What I remember is holding your hand
And all that I'll cherish is that time that we've spent
Me and you skipping throughout the land
All the loves lost and the one that I found
You lifted my gaze up off of the ground
Forever we'll talk and forever we'll drown
In each other skipping around
Gravity pulls so many men down
The atmosphere breathes but not in this town
You took me away and you held me so proud
Skipping, skipping around
And all the king's horses and all the king's men
Could not keep me from holding your hand
When all that I wanted was something to protect
And all that I needed was your voice in my head
And all I remember from this life that I lived
Is me and you skipping throughout the land

i always wonder for how much longer will eddie vedder keep on moving me. with his music, his lyrics, his attitude...when you think he has become quite mellow, you suddenly hear these beautiful notes, this poetry, arranged so simply in 3 minutes...and you just catch yourself actually smiling in front of youtube...! he's someone who will never let me down, i think....

two things :One- Eddie continues to write songs that are true to life, with overwhelming sensitivity regarding the human experience. Two-pretty sure he is self harmonizing and that is one of the most delicious sounds I've ever heard.

Eddie is celebrating his love for Jill and his lovely daughter Olivia in this fairytale ballad. It must have been the most pivotal point of his life. The quest for a soulmate and the divine gift of the birth of a daughter.God's promises do come true.

With one listen thru and not thinking much about it. This is what my mind felt smiled and thought. Family as a little kid the sun beaming through the window. Smiles on the faces I love as we share a special moment with a simple meal. Memories that count and a piece of art. Life that is what this song translated to me at first spirit.

For Mam- I never really knew you, yet you were taken from me so soon, leaving a void in my heart. I am sorry for not being the happy child you dreamed of. I feel I have existed rather than lived the 41 years since your passing, now at age 45 aimlessly drifting from one disaster to the next, unfilled potential and lack of self confidence haunts me. I think of you daily, someday's hourly...Miss you so much. Love you.

Ian, please try this one thing out for happiness and confidence: Every single day, write down 1 event that made you a bitt happier today. doesn't have to be something big. a beautiful flower in an unexpected place; cooling breeze; a friendly convo. all of these will do. In the beginning, this might be very difficult for you. but believe me: you are training in your happiness muscle. and within one month, if you are consitent, you will notice something is happening with you :) now, for confidence, you can do the same thing but rather than writing down things that make you happy, write down't things that make you feel confident, proud, even if only the slightest little bit. Again, you will see your perception of yourself changing quicker than you may think now. I am just a stranger on the internet, giving you a simple advice. i hope you can do it. i did this many years ago and it turned my life around.

@Chris Driver The separation of mothers and fathers from their babies shouldn’t be used as a political tool. Sadly it was. This song talks about the strength of that bond. I’m not the one who brought politics into that humanitarian truth.

@@stellashepherd844 it wasn't used as a political tool... The law did not allow children to be detained with parents... Yes, you are the one who brought politics into this.... If I talk about aborted fetuses being separated from their mothers, would I be politicizing it?

When you lose your father early in your life, whatever the reason, and then you grow up with this and kinda haunted by this, the only thing that can change your perspective is becoming yourself a father. Then you experience the purest of the loves a human being can feel and probably something tells you in the most subliminal way that your father loved you that same way and still does wherever he is now...

I think you have to be dead inside to not feel this song. Speaking as a long time fan of Eddie Vedder I am happy to hear how his music has grown. If fans of Tool's front man Maynard can understand how his music has changed from Tool to Puscifer, why can't fans of Eddie Vedder understand his evolution. For that matter, why would we want a song about a 16yr old boy that killed himself "Jeremy" (peal Jam) to sound like a song about fatherhood. His life evolved and so should his subject matter.

What's with all the people that dislike this one? I mean, your opinion is your opinion, but i think it sounds, maybe not better, but as good, as a lot of his other songs. And they're certainly not "one two i love you" lyrics as someone described them.

Well done for voicing ur opinion. I made a comment on a video recently that wasn't too positive but didn't actually belittle the artists talent in any way and got so much abuse for it. Seems I was trolling even though I can't stand people who troll just to get a rise out of others. For this reason alone, if I don't happen to like a song I'm watching I tend to not bother commenting now. I'm not keen on this song either, doesn't mean I don't like EV any less though. Glad u spoke up.
