Total financial suicide if ur living paycheck to paycheck. SMG unit $3000 used. smg pump $1000 alternator $600 throttle body $500. clutch and flywheel $1000/plus labor SMG solenoids $2500 plus labor/ coil packs $1500/ control arms / bushings/ battery/ positive battery terminal cable/ , those are just the issues I could remember.. probably the worst financial mistake I ever made besides selling most of my bitcoins .. still love the fucking car tho. @AlexGray5 жыл бұрын
Of probably at least 70+ M5 owners I’ve met and or spoke to closely with on Instagram, I only know two who have had to replace just one actuator. There is a rebuild kit for $100 and it can be done yourself. I don’t know anyone that has had to replace vanos so I don’t think that is very common however I know the vanos pump is fairly expensive.

No issues, just regular maintenance (new battery, tires, oil changes). I LOVE the SMG! I don't know if the previous owner did something to it, but it's so smooth I rarely even using manual mode during normal driving. I had e46 M3 before this one. Much crispier ride. Sharper, more sporty. M6 has more luxury feeling. But when you unleash the beast, it's an absolute thrill.

I have this car ( 3 years ownership) I use it as a weekend toy only , it’s never let me down because I have it serviced when it needs to be serviced ( Bmw or a specialist Bmw garage) not dodgy Daves back street garage , I had the throttle actuators changed as preventative maintenance (the rod bearings will be next with the vanos line ) ...basically if you want to have this in your collection buy a good one use it as a weekend toy it’s not for commuting that’s for sure , always warm up the engine and gearbox to temperature keeping it below 3k Revs , I’ve had the engine oil analysis completed twice in three years which showed no wear regarding rod bearings etc , always use 10w-60 oil recommended by Bmw and regarding high mileage these engines will go for years if maintained properly but if the car is revved to death every day of course it won’t last long all in all it’s a fantastic car and has started to go up in price here in the U.K. .....PS: don’t listen to the armchair scaremongers as most have never owned or even driven one ....the one I have is an LCI ( btw LCI started late 2007 which is what I have and the ones to go for ) ..happy driving ladies and gentlemen 🇬🇧😎👍

Great to hear! I've got a white M6 V10, only has 53k miles on it. I need to drive it more, as I only take it out a couple times a month. Looks pristine totally stock, I've just got other cars that I drive on a daily basis. Too many videos on here knocking the e60 & e63 M cars. In the end paying $2500 to do rod bearings every 100k miles and under $4k for SMG work around that expected mileage, who cares. There is nothing I could find under $40k that matches what these car do for me. Cheers mate
@arash_LA5 жыл бұрын
Josh Wagner I got my M6 around that milage too. Just make sure you do the oil change every 4-5k max, let the car fully warm up before hard driving( VERY IMPORTANT), and do the rod bearings around 75k to be safe. I paid 1600 dollars to do that. Not bad at all for every 75-100k . And why 4000 dollars for the smg?! The pump is only 350 dollars. You don’t need to replace the entire sms transmission if the pump goes bad. Just recently replaced the clutch and pump ( 95k miles on original clutch which is really reliable I think) and paid only 1400 dollars for everything including clutch and pump and it drives like new again. In case for throttle actuators which usually go bad around 60-80k , You can get remanufactured one for only 400 dollars with lifetime warranty. I just replaced both as for maintenance before they get back. They were both still original and lasted 100k miles for me👍🏻 ! If you know about the car and know where to get the parts for cheap, the car is not that bad at all. Those people who are complaining are those who have no idea about the car and just get ripped off here and there. PM me In case you have any questions. Enjoy your car buddy :)

@@arash_LAThanks so much for the comment and support! Yep I've had smg cars in the past. Current own a Z4 3.0 with smg so I have had my hands in dealing with repairs there but like you said it was pretty much in the timing of when a clutch would need done anyway. Rod bearings were new info to me when I got the M6 so I got a quote from my favorite ATL area shop here for $2400 to do the work. Guess my point in the previous comment is these were once $100+k cars and certainly drive a nice as one. Picking up one for $20k makes the car a no brainer for what you get because preventive maint even budgeting on the high side (worst case situations) still values the car investment well below any of the other cars I was looking at getting. E39 and E60 M5s are one of the best cars ever made. I don’t even care if they aren’t reliable. They are from BMW’s prime time of engineering!

I have a 2006 BMW M5 and I have owned it for 2 years and I drive it as I please! Do I dog it? No! Do I push it when time allows? Most definitely. When I first purchased the car not knowing the entire history from year to year. Within the first year alone I had the rod bearings replaced with BE Rod bearings and ARP Studs, fuel pump, fuel filter, throttle body actuators, idle actuators, Ionic Current Modules, spark plugs, coil packs, obviously numerous of oil changes. Oil was changed 500 miles after rod bearings installed. Then again at 1,000 miles, and after that resumed intervals of 5,000 miles. New tires with Continental Contact Sport 02, new rotors, pads, parking brake refresh kit, rear suspension with Bilstein B6’s in the rear, differential bushing replaced and diff fluid flushed, coolant flush, power steering reservoir, coolant level sensor. Oh and I interior and exterior lights with led’s. I think that’s it. If you take care of it it will take care of you.

Let me guess. You also have high battery drain error message almost every morning. If so, I know exactly what's wrong with your car. Very simple fix.

Owned one for 3 years. Beautiful but absolutely garbage shit and any money put into it is absolutely not worth it. The car was always down I had it since 30k miles to 65k miles in 3 years. Supercharger 7-10k + 2-3k install, $800 tune, $4500 for headers + $2k for eventuri air intake and still slow as shit. I drop 7k into my CTS V2 and I’m up at 900HP... and the V2 is more comfy and reliable lol.

This is my dream car. However, as I get closer to finishing school, I realize that I won't be able to rely on this car as a daily, but more as just a weekend car. Even if it's a boring, big sedan and not a sports car, the V10 exhaust note is good enough to make it the weekend car.

Your stuck in the 80s, modern BMWs rank in the Top 6 in reliability. Mercedes is 17ish, Dodge is 20ish, etc, Poor ignorant people can barely purchase an expensive German car yet cannot even afford an oil change. They then bitch about reliability because they expect a 80k mile car to be like new.

I also has a valve spring break on my ‘13 e92 M3 DCT trans with 30K miles. Out of warranty, but BMW did a partial goodwill based on my loyalty. Valve spring issue is more prevalent than people think on s85/s65. But most of them occurred with the original owners and within factory warranty

Not including Oil and fluid changes... But ive owned a B7 RS4 for 7 years and i haven't spent as much on that as i've spent on the E60 M5 that i've owned for 18 months.. When they're running well... they're good. But overall i think the M5 is over complicated, the parts are overpriced and that the car itself is way overrated. FYI that was me getting a good well looked after example.. most things replaced under warranty etc. Car has 126700 miles on it now, rod bearings were done at 121000 miles, when new it was purchased with a 100000 mile warranty.. I'll take an Audi all day long thanks..

120k miles high ?.. i have a bmw E60 m5 with 240k kilometres on it from "05, the earlier models had some issues but most of them have been rectified through dealers under warranty. because these cars are so labor intensive to work on it is expensive to maintain if you bring it to a dealer or garage. You have to learn to fix it yourself, if you are not a mechanic you will become one. Thats why i work on it myself now, in 5 years of ownership i spent 2,5k € on parts wich where mostly preventative maintainence, like the vanos high presure line, spark plugs wires, coils, cooling hoses maf sensors, belts waterpump, thermostat, distribution chain + guides and tensioners inspection of the vanus pump, replaced the actuators,. it was a lot of work, but well worth. i drive it without any issues except general maintenance and frequent oil changes. it has been a very reliable car for me. value is only going up, never ever is there gonna be a 5.0 v10 sedan again
