I didn't know that Edelbrock used a chem film or the like on the body or airhorn. I think the newest ones have ptfe on the shafts, though. I do recall when I used to refurbished Carter AFB and AVS models that they were bare alloy. We would use a Foredom or dremel with wire cups all the time. Nylon, too. The real problem was residual from fuel additives and of course oxidation on the exterior. And diesel fuel soaking was the norm before the rebuild. This is a great video. Thanks.

I’ve used both brands edelbrock and walker carb kit , when you buy a walker you have to get the right one for your car say it’s a 1406 electric choke it’s has only the gaskets for that one the edelbrock style some general kits will fit other Carter carbs , edelbrock carb kits are made by walker but are more specific to edelbrock. Kit price’s are close in cost walkers are about 10 bucks less so it depends on what you need but please people don’t buy those Amazon cheap kits they are junk never bought one but some friends tryed to have me rebuild a carb with that junk and I said no don’t waste my time , your videos are such a great help

Soooo. I love the info in your videos!!!! I just bought a 62 nova that has a built 350 0.40 over in it with a complete edelbrock top end. Aluminum heads, big cam, air gap intake, dual 500 cfm carbs thunder series edelbrock, 9.4:1 compression. The bad thing is the car has sat long enough that the rubber fuel lines had 3 inch long splits in them. Of course the carbs need rebuilt and thanks to this video I think I have it under control. However that is another complication in a way. The car was tuned to run strong at 900 ft above sea level. And I live at 3500 ft above sea and will be driving the car up to 4000 ft at times. So I'm basically starting over with a completely new tune in on this whole set up. I might need some advise from you along the way. Any starting point that I need to consider when rebuilding the carbs for the thinner air at higher elevations would be great. Also I live in Arizona so the heat is also a factor. Thank you for your work on these videos. I really appreciate the resource to reference.

It’s what I have. When the 400 chev was dropped in this 1951 Chris-Craft Racing Runabout about 15 years ago this is what they used. It’s what I just inherited when I bought the boat recently. Just finished rebuilding it after watching your video. Question is what to do different with it now?
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
Ultimately the decision is yours but if it were my boat, I’d have a CG approved carburetor and fuel system. Here’s why. If you ever get into a situation where you break down on the water, have a fuel or oil spill, or worse yet the boat sinks and they do any investigation and find non approved equipment on those systems that can negatively affect water quality, they’ll hit you with fines that are more than whatever the boat is worth. I know a bunch of folks use street equipment on boats and get away with it but it’s a roll of the dice that I wouldn’t be willing to take. Look into what the regulations are where you plan on using it locally and coast guard laws and you’ll find the information you will need to know.
@CaptTPT
@CaptTPT 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I am aware of what you are referring to. However, I do not believe there are any CG rules related to modification of antique boats like this. I will review this question on the antique boat forums to see what is known about this issue. What I have done so far is to completely rebuild the fuel delivery system to standards better than required by CG on any boat. Back to my question. What needs to be done to make this carb work if I choose to use it? When I look at a marine Edelbrock like the 1409, I don’t see much difference. What am I missing?

@@MuscleCarSolutions thanks. I was not looking for any type of advantage. All the internal screws are torx and all the external screws are flathead. The external screw that holds on the manual choke bracket is a little longer than the rest. Spraying the paper gaskets with WD40 helps them to come off easier next time you rebuild it.
@MuscleCarSolutions
@MuscleCarSolutions 2 жыл бұрын
Only on carbs made in 2001 and earlier on the hardware. The airhorn assembly hardware is all the same length. Assuming that’s what you meant with the manual choke cable bracket. The WD40 thing is a great tip. Though I rarely remember to use it on assembly. More so on the holleys where you see that benefit. Thankfully most kits have the non stick gaskets.

@MuscleCarSolutions

Easy. Ethanol boils at 175 degrees or so at sea level. The boiling point does go up the higher you get in elevation, but is still relatively low. Carrying less fuel means there’s less to boil over into the engine and causing a flooding condition. Hard starting, etc.

There isn’t much you can do really. Get more diligent with draining the fuel from the carb if the car is going to sit for more than a week or two at a time. Use the Driven carb defender can help continue to push the water and crap through the system. Once it starts though, it’s only going to get worse. Doesn’t matter what brand of carb. Ethanol kills them all if not looked after.

Hi, I’ve a 1901 on my vehicle. I bought kit 1920 which is supposed to cover 1901. Seems to be very short on parts in the kit. Ie, there is only 1 float valve. What is the most comprehensive kit I would need ? Does it depend on year ? Thanks

Wondering about the way the air control weighted thing goes in there, it seems it only goes in there 2 ways one all the way closed or other shut but open part way. Another question this carb was really corroded and I only found a check ball in it , but it might have gotten lost. This is a carb 900 something s , and on a boat motor 4.3 or 4.5 sorry but still , do I need a weight in there in accelerator jets,?

Regarding your Edelbrock customer service claim - My kit was missing the accelerator pump plunger cup. I called Edelbrock and they wouldn't send me one - they simply told me it wasn't sold separately, and said I could go buy the 1467 assembly. Thanks Edelbrock. I couldn't return my kit because I had it sitting on the bench for a few months before starting my rebuild. True, I should have checked it. But Edelbrock wasn't much help to me. FYI.
