"Battle is the great redeemer", and Cage certainly is redeemed. This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of the past 20 years. It's got real heart and the right amount of romance, excellent action, and is legitimately funny. One thing I appreciate after multiple viewing is why Rita is in slow motion every time Cage sees her for the first time, whether it's the beach or the training room. It's because Cage is in awe of her every time. Bro has it bad for her from first sight. HA

Some enjoyable Time Loop movies: "Timecrimes", about a man who stumbles into the middle of a time travel experiment that goes wrong. "Primer" is the arch mindfuck time travel movie, with entire webpages devoted to unraveling it. "ARQ", a couple wakes up in bed during a violent home invasion. Then again and again and again... "Triangle"(2009) Several people on a small boat get capsized in a storm and find refuge on a deserted ocean liner. More psychological horror than sci-fi.

Enjoyed this movie. Love a good time loop story. This one had good action as typical Tom Cruise movies do but had some laughs. If you haven’t seen Knight and Day, it’s a funny TC action movie I’d love to see you react to.

There's a ton of time-lapse continuance errors throughout, but I think the evolving storyline would suffer a lot if they avoided them altogether. But this is the particular genre that to me Tom Cruise excels in, and he also got much better as he got older and matured as an actor. Him and Cameron Diaz in "Day & Knight" is right down that alley, and a very underrated TC film.

i.e. -- he says the two vehicles they haven't tried yet are the camper and the green SUV, but at the helicopter barn he says 'this is as far as you get', so they obviously took that camper before and he would've known there was a mimic in the camper.

Oh yeeeeeeeeaahhhh🤔. That's a good point. And he didn't reset in between those two moments so it doesn't make sense. It also seemed like he was reminding her to unhook the trailer rather than telling her, because she may have forgotten in previous resets. She's intelligent enough to know it would slow them down.

The Groundhog Day concept, while not widely done, has been done a few times - not necessarily in cinema, but a few times TV episodes of various shows. Star Trek TNG, and Stargate SG-1 come to mind. I personally think it's also one of the better examples of the concept. One of the risks, of the Groundhog Day concept, is lingering too much on the loop, until it starts to become tedious. When they went to quick cuts of the loop repeating, they drifted close to "We get the idea... Get on with it." without going over. It's really hard to play out a loop of that size. You want to maintain the concept that there's a loop, but you also want to move the story along. You don't want it to start feeling like save points in a game, and start feeling a bit routine - especially when you're rolling toward a climax. I really like that they started throwing some "last loop" references. That allowed them to remind people that looping was going on, without slowing down things with restarts. Finally, I liked the idea that they instantly re-introduced some stakes, by having him lose the power. It was a simple thing, but it made the build-up and climax all the more intense. The film did a great job of covering the concepts related to being in a loop, seeing strangers become friends, seeing those friends die, having to make choices because of a greater mission, etc. The technology was good and believable. They made it look good and practical, without having it overpower the story. Perhaps, the suits might have made a good merchandising opportunity, but it wasn't that type of movie. The tech was tools. The ending was kinda interesting. It was unexpected, It wasn't hopeless, it could be considered a "Happy" ending, because lives were saved, but it's really hard to predict what the story might be from that point. I enjoyed the film, and I enjoyed the reaction. This film hasn't been covered that often, yet. Glad to see it being covered.

Since you ask there are two other timeloop movies of this calibre worth watching. They are ... BOSS LEVEL which takes the video game action aspect of this movie to a manic level (hence the name) and PALM SPRINGS which doubles down on the romcom aspects of this movie by exploring the possibilities when three unlikely to be matched strangers (a single young guy, a single young gal and a middle aged married guy) get caught up in the loop. Both movies came out around 2020 and are well done, intelligent and a lot of fun, with the first featuring fellow Aussie, Mel Gibson, as the heavy, and the second featuring 2 scenes containing brachiosaurs, if that is your thing.

@TimoRutanen 2 ай бұрын
I think the last reset was like a one-time death reflex of the dying Omega, because it didn't return to life even when the time got reset. Interestingly, they still said in the news report that there was some kind of an energy surge, which would have happened the next night when they go to kill it, but instead it seems to have traveled back in time and died there (and then), creating the pulse that destroys the aliens.

This is such a re-watchable movie! And I liked your comment about them being like synapses (for the hive mind). But do you think Cage'll ever die of old age? He might just end up repeating the same day over and over again, as a very old man. Or do you think the ability got used up when the Omega died? And thus a normal life after that?

Question: if the Alpha let him bleed out at the dam, wouldn't he die and reset the day anyway? It's not like he could get a blood transfusion and live while losing the ability to reset the day.
