When an Alpha dies, the Omega resets 24 hours before its death and it becomes the permanent save point like in a video game (the whole movie). Tom Cruise's character loses the ability and they go kill the Omega the night before they storm the beach, so that's why he was in the helicopter in the end. The Omega died the night before and the new and final save spot is 24 hours before that, aka in the helicopter just coming into town. I really recommend War of the Worlds (2005) and Minority Report (2002) which are both directed by Steven Spielberg and both star Tom Cruise. You would love them a lot and yes, they are both sci-fy action with some other elements.

Good effort, that's the best explanation I've seen. But I'm not sure it's right. But at one point, the General says "When you left this office today I never imagined you'd be back." So, by this time, Cage has woken up on the kit bags, found Rita, had the meeting with the nerd, and driven to central London from Heathrow - all on the same day as he arrived in the helicopter. So when he's inadvertently resetting the time frame, it's to some point in the *middle of that day* when he wakes up on the kitbags. It must be all to do with when he regains consciousness - that's the reset point. Does he sleep before they get on the drop ship for the morning invasion? That's never made clear (or at least I don't remember). But I presume not, otherwise he'd reset to the beginning of the day. So why, when he dies at the end, does it reset to the previous time he regained consciousness, after sleeping in the helo? Maybe he *did* sleep between 'kit-bags' and 'drop ship', and he normally resets to the penultimate time he regained consciousness; on the final occasion he doesn't sleep because they go straight to hijacking the drop-ship and attacking the Omega, so that time he resets to the time-before-last... which is... in the helicopter?

@@BenjWarrant I didn’t realized it but yeah you’re right. Well… in a sense that using a tazer wouldn’t exactly knock you out 24hrs. So basically its 1 whole day until the sgt. wakes them (J-squad) up on the next day which is the invasion. So they killed the Omega I think very early in morning that’s why it’s still night. Idk what time though but maybe 4 or 5 in morning maybe. Idk, time traveling or whatever can be really confusing

"Bloody hell, it's the Full Metal Bitch!" Fun Fact: The soldier that says this and is punched by Emily Blunt, is her real-life younger brother. Historical Allegory Fact: The film was released in the U.S. on June 6, 2014, the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. The film shares many similarities to the attack on Normandy Beach. Uniquely, it premiered in two sequential events, designed to mirror the D-Day landings within the exact timeline of the historic event. Lost In Adaptation Fact: In the movie, Rita (Emily Blunt) appreciates having coffee at the farmhouse. This is a nod to her character in the book, who is a coffee lover and had been introduced to coffee at an early age by her coffee addict father. In the world of the book, where coffee growing has virtually ceased because of the Mimic invasion and people drink artificial substitutes, Rita still has some supplies of exotic real coffee beans and her only personal possession is a coffee grinder.

@@robertbretschneider765yeah, I've seen multiple comments use the word 'novel' or 'book'. Which i found confusing, because all i was aware was the manga this was based on: "All you need is kill". Fantastic manga, by the way. Self contained, two volume series. And while illustrated works like comics or manga are technically books (and i suppose novels if you stretch the meaning), whenever someone refers to a 'book' i typically visualize something with predominantly written text. Regardless, it's a minor quibble and i appreciate people trying to get more eyes on the original work. It's definitely worth checking out.

The movie's based on a Japanese light novel called "All You Need Is Kill"*, by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. And there's a pretty good English translation of it. There's also a full graphic novel, i.e. manga, adaptation of it as well that's pretty awesome. It was done by the creator of Death Note. The story is kind of the same as in the movie, but there's some significant differences. You mentioned how it's similar to a video game in its setup, and that feeling is certainly from the original source material. It's definitely worth reading if you're a fan of the film. *Also people make fun of the Japanese title as being bad English, but it's not, really. It's a play on "All you need is love", and it's shortening of "All you need (to do) is kill". Both of those suit the story very well.

The story telling is classic Campbell’s Hero’s Journey. There are multiple successes followed by failures, each ramping up the stakes. He meets a mentor who helps prepare him. There is great character development arc as his skills and confidence increases. Then, the third act where a point-of-no-return is reached and the stakes become all or nothing for the final battle. The book ends differently but the storytelling in both is superb. Technically, I believe this is a man vs animal story with an anti-hero protagonist.

it would be easy for him to get out of going on the beach. All he would have to explain to the general is that there are people called "field reporters" who will go to various places during the invasion (under Cage's supervision) and collect footage... and then Cage will work his magic and weave the footage into a positive narrative ... from his edit booth. There is no reason for Cage to go on the beach. The first part of this movie reminds me of a great science fiction story, "Caster". A famous newscaster returns to his "backwater" home world, which is about to be handed over to aliens as part of a post-war peace agreement. He begins by sneering at the world he escaped, but slowly sees what a great place it is, where humans and aliens live in peace. The planet, Greenworld, is going to resist the aliens, but doesn't stand a chance. And so he begins a series of newscasts aimed at one man; the admiral of the fleet. The admiral knows that if he interferes, it cold resume the war; but he also knows the planet will be devastated by invasion and the humans probably killed. But the caster mercilessly preys on the admiral's conscience with his stories, and the admiral knows the price he will have to pay. Finally, after the aliens begin their attack and Greenworld fends it off with a desperate gamble... the admiral orders the fleet into action. His ships threaten the aliens' transport ships, which would also have their "queen-mother" aboard.... and so the aliens call off the attack and go home. The admiral and 'caster are invited by the head of gov't to watch from his office as two of Greenworld's only transport ships land... surrounded by a squadron of the latest fighter ships. The transports were loaded with orbital defense weapons. Once the bankers saw that Greenworld stood a chance, the loans were guaranteed. The admiral leaves, solemnly, and the caster asks the leader what his problem is. The leader explains, that in order to prevent a resumption of the war, Earth has to throw the aliens some red meat. The admiral will be tried and executed. The caster tells the leader to summon his producer. The last line of the story is: "I'm going to save that man":.

"How did they film this? It doesn't look like CG, it looks real." There's good cgi and bad cgi. This movie has good cgi. Unfortunately cgi has gotten a bad name because of so many movies that don't bother making it look good. I've always seen through that. Jurassic Park had very good cgi, for 1993, and it continues to impress today, because the right tools were used and they were used well. 27:47 It didn't occur to me until watching your reaction, after I've seen this movie a lot of times, but maybe he cleared out that entire beach himself so he might have enough time to get to the omega before she dies? On second thought, I'm probably wrong. It seems like it would have shown him wiping out the mimics on the beach if that's what he did. Action scifi recommendation: ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL (2019) Trust me on this one. James Cameron had a very big hand in the making of it and it really is good, on a level close to Edge of Tomorrow. I'm not kidding, yet I'm aware of how it went right under most people's radar. Many of your viewers will be familiar with it and will back me up on this one. It's very scifi, very action, and full of surprises. You'll love it. In fact, even though Alita Battle Angel's story doesn't resemble that of Edge of Tomorrow, the movies have a lot in common. Both were great movies, but didn't do as well as they deserved to in theaters for various unfortunate reasons. Both made extensive use of very good cgi. Both have lots of great well-known actors. Both are very high action. Both have intriguing plots that twist and turn unpredictably to surprise you in the end. Both have likable bad-ass characters. Both make clever use of humor to break up the seriousness without making it feel like a comedy. Good writing, music, choreography, cinematography, etc.. Oh yeah, and both have a main character referred to as an "angel".

OK, I'm going to make a case for Tom Cruise's contribution here. In the UK we had a TV film critic, and I remember he reviewed _Rainman_ when it was released. He gave due props to Dustin Hoffman, but he went on to say that the acting of Tom Cruise was superlative, playing the character arc of the brother who at first was a grade-A douchebag but the things that happened gradually made him a decent human being. This is a similar situation: Cage's character arc is one that I think not many actors could have pulled off. He's unctuous in the early scenes, a real media manipulator and coward and a draft dodger; then he's terrified as someone without even basic training who is literally dropped on to a beach-head; then he's totally reliant on Rita, he needs her to tell him what to do and provide support for what he's going through, but he ends up as a true warrior - the difference between his expression in the drop ship between the first and the last time we see is astonishing - cold, calculating, urgent, brave, and super-efficient. And in the middle just for fun he throws in a portrayal of someone who is heartbreakingly in love with Rita but he knows she's only known him for 24 hours and he can't possibly let her know how he feels, because it would be weird. "Why does it matter if I die?" She catches on though, which is why we get one of the great lines in the movie, something she says to him so that a future version of herself will know how she felt about him before: "My middle name... is Rose."

Watch Cloud Atlas. It's sci-fi mystery action comedy drama; genre- and character-bending, beautiful and heartbreaking, truly unlike anything else. And it all works. So underrated, probably the Wachowski's best film. About life love death, future past present. Great directing, cinematography, editing and cast. It deserves a reaction video, I know you will love it. I'll even become a Patreon member, I swear! 😅

Hey guys! This was fun (as expected- heh). A few other "time loop" movues, you'd enjoy... - Groundhog Day (the OG) - Happy Death Day - same, but slasher movie - Palm Springs - romantic comedy (kinda) And separately, "Looper" - not quite the same, but still a slick approach to time travel. Later! 😎👍

Great reaction! Big Love is an HBO series starring Bill Paxton, it's a lot of fun, and he's great in it. Even if you don't react to it for your channel, it's worth watching. Risky Business (1983) Is a fantastic, smart, dark coming of age movie that stars Tom Cruise and made him a star, three years before Top Gun made him a super star. And for some reason almost no one reacts to it. Under the Skin (2013) Is a movie starring Scarlett Johansson. It's easily one of the weirdest and most viscerally disturbing sci-fi movies ever made. It's also a movie no one ever reacts to.

Based on the Japanese novel "All You Need is Kill" (which was the original title for the film while it was in development but they changed it before release). There's also a manga _and_ a graphic novel adaptation so if you're a fan of multi-media fiction you're well covered :). Great movie, deserved to do better on release than it did I think (it wasn't a flop - they made their money back plus a bit - but also wasn't a smash hit either).

I think this is one of the best sci-fi films of the last 25 years with an excellent cast & engaging storytelling. No doubt the special & practical effects are fantastic but the script is what really makes it superb. Cannot be positive of course, but I think Cage relived that day for years…how that would just wear you down psychologically, especially having feelings for Rita….it would be a nightmare. (If y’all haven’t seen “Oblivion” I highly suggest it, another excellent sci-fi). [edit: been thinking this for awhile, have you thought about watching any classic sci-fi? Hope so, because I have an amazing film…”Metropolis”. Please consider]

Great reaction! As an aside by military tradition there's no such thing as a "J-Squad", or company or platoon, etc. It's considered the "lost" company. Which I always felt was interesting that's who they use in the movie. The story goes that there was an actual J company that was obliterated so they retired that designation. The real life reason is not as dramatic. I and J are similar when written and can be interchanged so they chose to use I instead.

Action Sci-fi recommendation: Soldier (1998) Kurt Russell I knew you'd enjoy this film! We broke the record for shortest time between a recommendation popping up and me clicking on it 😂 We'll break it again if you watch my recommendation, above. It's a great film with a lot more emotional content than you'd expect from a 90s action movie. I wouldn't say it's underrated, because everyone loves it when they see it, but not many people have reacted to it on KZbin so maybe it's hard to find; I don't know. I just know you'll really enjoy it if you watch it. It's got Kurt Russell. How can you go wrong?

Yesss I love this movie! Favourite line is "Are you an American?" "No sir I am from Kentucky!" RIP Bill Paxton. Also they don't really shine a light on it here so much, but in the comic, the part where he easily fights the guy with his eyes closed, it's not because he's had that fight before. It's because he's become SO GOOD at fighting, especially against the mimics, this is child's play for him.

Also yes this movie is 100% action and 100% sci-fi, in one of the best ways! Also someone's probably said this, but the original comic author came up with it while playing video games and wondering what it would be like to do this in real life.
