I've never owned a gun, so I don't understand all the technicalities of the equipment. What I appreciate is the effort put into the reduction these of feral animals that ruin Australia's natural and agricultural regions.

Absolutely it's rude to ask about earnings in any form. Good work Nathan 👍.
@jameshealy45942 жыл бұрын
While it can be done rudely or where irrelevant to the asker, making it universally shameful to ask is a tool of the wealthy. If you don't know that bloke next to you in the factory is earning 20% more than you it discourages you from asking for a raise and enables the exploitation of workers. Obviously not in this context, I wouldn't ask Nathan what he costs unless I wanted to hire him.

I have never read too many comments but I'm surprised anyone would think there's someone wrong about thermals for any hunting in Australia, besides culling roos it's all introduced feral control even if they do it for sport. I could understand if you were hunting trophy animals in their natural habitat but there's none of that style hunting in Australia.

Good stuff, nice direct style. Basically you do what works for you, while acting within your local regs and treating your quarry in a humane manner. From my own experience in the uk over 20 years of deer and vermin control - I used 6br, it's inherently accurate and low recoil, especially with a suppressor, or moderator fitted. I always headshot fallows, no more than 200 yards. Saves all that tracking malarkey and the game dealers give a better price than for undamaged carcasses. But as you say, shoot within your capability. The benefit with handloading is that as long as you have a good stock of components you can always recreate your loading. Factory ammo is not always consistently available. I'm impressed by your abilty on moving targets with thermal, I preferred to wait for a static target, so once again, within my capability. I'm now retired, I judged my age and fitness level to be insufficient and called it a day. But I get much pleasure from your presentation and can relive some of my own experiences through you. Keep it up mate, shooters have enough enemies. We need to stick together.

I know late to the party here. But I always thought that anything that extends the length of your barrel will also shift the arc of the projie and point of impact. I.e. leaves the barrel slightly further from you, will extend range slightly if shooting on relatively flat ground. Would it differ from barrel harmonics. I’m not sure. Cool vid. Always good to have these info sessions for those curious. I’m definitely in the curious camp 👍🏻
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. From my understanding the only thing that changes the arc or AKA trajectory is speed. A longer barrel will shoot faster. But adding a suppressor or muzzle brake doesn't add speed in the same efficiency longer barrel can.
@slow_diver Жыл бұрын
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK yep that’s what I mean. But of course there’s other limiting factors like your powder. It can only push a projie so fast, and there’s friction and other things coming into the equation. So there’s limits of effectiveness in barrel length with smaller calibres. But I definitely agree.

I watch your videos with relish because you operate in a professional, matter-of-fact way. My super-noob experience hunting spans from the late 70s into the early 2000s, very intermittently. I have shot prey to feed either myself or my dogs, and not often. I've also only used .22 rifles. However, I've always made a point to aim for headshots. I figure that if I miss, my bad. But a clean kill is what I want. And here's the embarrassing thing about my shooting experience...I've had to shoot 6 animals...ever...bonus? All six were headshots between 30 and 100 metres with standard sights. I'll never end up shooting as a job (too old), but still pride myself on my accuracy when I did operate a rifle. Humane kills are important.

I like your videos, can't see too many cat videos! I would like to see one of these complainers of yours put their arm in a box containing a wild cat, and see if there is anything left in a minute or two. I used to shoot cats ( and dingos ) East of Coober Pedy, along the inside of the dog fence and some of those cats were the size of a corgi. I now shoot in country WA with a 243, nice all round cartridge. Good idea on the red LED for night shooting, the iris is not affected by the red light and you keep your night vision. Regarding the night vision scopes, maybe we should ban lures and echo sounders for fishing as it is not sporting either. Go back to the Huckleberry Finn days and use a single shot or even a muzzle loader. Keep up the good work!
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK2 жыл бұрын

Another good video Nathan. I don’t think any of your regular viewers would be surprised that you don’t give a fat rat’s clacker about what some random stranger thinks about using thermal.
