In this video Aaron Hilliard, VP of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society, takes us on a walk into Mushroom Wonderland to discover edible wild summer mushrooms, as well as a few other mushrooms that you might come across on the trail this time of year.
It has been a very hot and dry summer, but despite that, Lobster Mushrooms have been growing like crazy, as well as the summer Chanterelles. Both highly regarded and also both featured in this video. Aaron shows the habitat, the mushrooms different morphological features, and describes the mushrooms in great detail to help you be able to confidently ID your own wild mushrooms.
Mushroom foraging is a great pass-time and a wonderful reason to take the family or a loved one out into the woods and connect with nature, so our hope is that you use this channel as a great resource and find helpful tips and insights. Keep in mind that eating wild foraged food has its risks, and there are plants, trees, and mushrooms that can be quite poisonous, so be sure to do your own research and please don't use this shaky cell phone footage to compare your mushroom against. Mushroom Wonderland takes no responsibility for what you forage.

Although you may ramble, I listen to every word...Lol.. sometimes twice, because there are always new gems somewhere in your videos. three generations of my family are now into this mushroom habit (over in Enumclaw), for a couple years now, largely because of you. If it wouldnt be too much trouble, could you dig around in the soil a little bit when you find a good chanterelle and or lobster spot to help me understand the moisture level you're looking for? and maybe throw out a recent weather summary? Thanks man.

Thank you for your help!!!!! I have been a life long person of the woods and have left behind TONS of the edible mushrooms thinking that they were poison. NOT NO MORE@!!!! LOL. My problem now is I'm 61 and have had a lot of problems with my body. Hard to get out but if it kills me this year I'm going to get some, lol.

It still amazes me how many lobster mushrooms you get that aren't worm riddled. My ratio is probably around 1/50 good vs riddled when I find them

Yeah they've been very fresh, as long as I find them and they're still young. There's definitely some wormy ones that just don't make it into the video though

This Summer has been a bad shutout here in Western Colorado. One of the driest Summers I can remember. We just got a couple days of light rain, so hoping to see some of the first flushes this weekend. Hopefully not too late for boletes, but maybe the chanterelles still have a chance if we get more rain! Mush Love 🤙🏼

I love northwest of Atlanta and it's the same there. I've harvested pounds of chanterelles this year. I'm vacationing in up-state Michigan and have gotten a ton of chanterelles here too. Just found a huge patch of chicken of the woods today to tack on to my chanterelles, lobster, hen of the woods, and black trumpets. My only regret was that I couldn't take trips for morel season and for oysters. I've never found so many edible mushrooms! Hopefully we'll see more chanterelles back in GA soon. Congrats on all the great finds there near Athens!

Visiting northern (lower peninsula) Michigan and we're overrun with chanterelles (golden and red) and lobster mushrooms. Unfortunately all the lobster I've found have been pretty bug infested. I'll keep looking though. I've never had the lobster mushrooms to eat so I hope I find some fresher ones. It's been great weather here for mushrooms and I think I've seen about a thousand species including the first time I ever saw honey fungus (a huge grouping). Enjoy the lobsters and I'll be enjoying chanterelles at least.

Last year was such an abysmal season here on Vancouver Island, that the buying stations didn't even bother opening... well, except for one day after the north island had a sprinkling. Even in October, it was still twig-snapping dry, I went into an area that's usually prolific for chanterelles & found two. I did come out with a few lobsters, and a strange, loosely formed cauliflower. What blew my mind though, were all the honey mushrooms everywhere! At least I had a good haul of those. I really hope we get some serious rain soon. I need some hedgehogs and especially pines this year. It would also be nice to see some bleeding milk caps, which used to be everywhere in all of my chanterelle areas. It's probably been five years since I've even seen one.

Hey man, love the channel, been following from the start! Big inspiration and very informative. Was wondering if you’ve ever considered a video about like…foraging/trekking techniques in terms of things like wayfinding/not getting lost, wildlife safety precautions re. Ticks, or even cougars/bears, things to have on hand in your bag in case of some sort of emergency. I’ve never really had issues with any of the above (except ticks) but they definitely come to mind when i go out foraging, especially in new territory, alone, or just with my dog. I find it can be easy to get disoriented at times when you start happening upon patches of chanterelles all around you. I used to tree plant and have thought about bringing flagging tape or something like that but have never actually done that. Thoughts? Could make for a decent discussion

Great idea, I've lightly touched on those ideas but it would be a good episode when mushrooms are scarce, always looking for material this time of year. Thanks and mush love! 🍄👍

Do lobsters have different stages/colors? I found some mushrooms on my property that were covered in a white fungus. The lobsters look like they have a layer of white under the orange layer.
@mushroomwonderland1
@mushroomwonderland1 9 ай бұрын
The lobster is actually two fungus growing together, a parasite and a host. The host is a white mushroom called Russula brevipes, and the parasite is orange/red. Check out some of the other videos on the channel about lobster mushrooms!!

Can you freeze mushrooms especially ghost pipe( which know is not a mushroom) ?
@mushroomwonderland1
@mushroomwonderland1 9 ай бұрын
Yeah there certain ways to freeze mushrooms, a lot of times people will dry saute them first to remove a lot of excess water. I don't know about ghost pipes though. What are you using them for?

Ghost pipes have medicinal properties mostly use for severe pain physically and emotionally. Please use caution and do your research as it’s a very powerful nervine. Herbal Jedi “Yarrow” who’s a master herbalist on KZbin have video out and he explains it well. If you want to do a fresh tincture use fresh. You can even bring your own bottle of alcohol and just put it right in.
