Lisa Bella Donna I don’t know why they don’t radio play it, on rotation I mean. It’s fine that it’s not in the style of the bulk of what is played on rotation on the radio. There has, or used to be, always, a song that fit no genre really, but was just one you would end up singing lines of it to yourself here and there. I remember quite a few of those, one is “Brand New Key.” “Nights in White Satin” was a great song but odd ball as far as following format goes. “Big Blue Frog?” Another one. I think so many people would catch on to so many lines in this song that they’d have it on the top of their tongue and sing quietly to themselves, not forget it. How about, “Maybe you ride a different wave, maybe you catch another ray of the sun, that I’ve just begun to feel?” And the opening lines, “Somewhere there’s somebody that looks just like you do... etc.” Maybe not the exact record version, but the version a bit more with their live sound. I wish radio stations would let me have my way; the New Bohemians have quite a few songs I think qualify for radio rotation based on that quality. Even Neil Diamond’s “ I Write the Songs” and several others did not fit the style of the day. But the style of the day was to also rotate in something that would catch you off base, give you something unexpected. Several songs on New Bohemians initial self released cassette tape, called “It’s Like This,” have that quality. “Get Up” is one. A great one. “I Do” is another. Even the radio needs a palette cleanser once in a while, like “Big Blue Frog.” Although I don’t eat frogs legs, “rhythm and a PhD” is catchy. “Letters I’ve written never meaning to send?” Well, you certainly don’t forget that or the notes the words fall on, if you were driving back in those days. “Welcome Back” was another that didn’t fit in slickly. It had texture. It added texture to the radio of it’s day. I just remember “Welcome Back” because I went and bought the 45 at K-Mart I walked to as a teen. But when you think about the words and the song’s tone, it’s not surprising. “You always could spot a friend.” I for one of millions, wanted to hear that more than once a week during the tv show that opened with it. Just my 2 cents. But I tell ya, I sure am glad I found out about the New Bohemians during their playing Dallas days so that I could experience their way, because I’d much prefer to be me knowing and loving the New Bohemians, than not even know to search them out on KZbin for a good listen. Honestly, “The Wheel” needs radio play. To make my long comment short. ❤️
