I foresee the day some after-market company makes a biodiesel or wood-pyrolysis diesel unit, so the trucks can make their own fuel from wastes, for free. IIRC, turbine units can do that, though with some drawbacks. Solar PV is coming down so fast in price and weight that, while it would never provide the power to drive a rig, it could lower costs even more, too as some kind of trailer cover.

Another possible application would be a hybrid cement truck. Here's why; many years ago I was laying block at the Tonawanda GM plant and we had a bunch of wall to grout. So we ordered a truck. Us guys were working up close to the ceiling when the truck had to come inside to discharge. It obviously had to run and man o man did it ever smog us out at the ceiling height. If that truck had been able to shut down and come inside the plant on battery and discharge everyone would have been better off. It wouldn't be a high sales volume application. But cement companies having at least one hybrid for those industrial interior applications, or just eliminating idle time while unloading in general, would be great. Great work guys.

@sauliaaltoАй бұрын
I don't know if u guys read the comments, but because you are intrested in technology in Europe, there is one thing what you should take to your trucks too. That is the liftable drive axle/ axles. That is saving lots of energy when driving empty, making the handling a lot easier and the most important thing is the liftable axles make the traction much better, with a load or without a load, it increases the load per axle and that way grip too, and that is very important feature in a logging truck. That would be a feature that other manufacturers can't respond out there in North America.

Diesels tend to emit more when stuff when idling & is considered dirty. When you consider how much to make a battery and graph the expected life span/cycles, EV’s are dirty too. Heavy tow operators with CalTrans highway recovery contracts are screaming bloody murder over the ZEV truck quotas (must sell 1 "clean" truck for every 9 diesel trucks, only getting worse) while they have to get new trucks every 4 years means they will soon have no trucks to use with nothing viable on market. All you have to do is get tow truck builders like Miller/Century/NRC etc to use electric hydraulic pumps. It's a match made in heaven.
