How it works, Inventors, Variations of design. This is an incandescent lamp which uses halogens like bromine and iodine to prevent the tungsten filament from degrading. It has a great color rendering and good efficiency compared with regular incandescents. Invented by Elmer Fridrich, Frederick Mosby at GE. Improved with bromine by Philips in the 1960s. Part of the Electric Light series by Edison Tech Center

I have a 500w T3 torchiere lamp in my bedroom that I'd use when it would be cold in the winter. It worked well heating my room.

@BabyIYours Thanks, some projects are funded better than others per minute, and the volume of raw media that has to be processed varies, long videos (like oral history interviews) have less intensive editing and less time allocated for thoughtful post production.

Not "when it cooles": the tungsten halogen salt is split (thermolysis) by the heat of the glowing tungsten filament. That way the tungsten is deposited back to the filament.

I bought a home which had several nice looking tungsten halogen fixtures. I refurbed them all with LED bulbs. Halogen lights are passed it. It's basically a heating element that incidentally provides some light.

Halogens are literally incandescent, why would you even compare it to LED? Ofc the LED is more efficient

@@specialopsdave That was my point. Halogen bulbs were once thought to be a new innovation, bright, long lasting and trendy. I like the fixtures so I converted them.

Does that "Double Envelope Halogen Lamp" emit high level of radiation? I live in Vancouver, Do you know which store I can buy it from? Thanks

Yes, it is more efficient and yields significantly more radiation in the visible spectrum than older designs.

@@godfreypoon5148 That's probably not the type of radiation he's asking about. Many people assume that incandescent radiate "radiation" You know, atomic radiation or x-rays, ultraviolet. 90% of the public think that's radiation. NO, incandescence only emit heat and light and not ultraviolet, x rays, gamma or any type of ionizing "radiation"

@@submechanophobia768 But halogen bulbs (without a second glass envelope, filter, or doping) do emit some UV since the pure silica doesn't block UV.

Rubbing alcohol has adulterants added. What will these do to the lamp? It would be safer to use 91% isopropyl alcohol and it's not that much more costly.

@@antoniojmonetti But in the long run it will be worth it much like spending $20 worth of bike tube patches or a new $20 Tube.
