Thank you Justin for all the great videos! I've only discovered this tool recently and it is a game changer. I'm using to draw joinery on timber frames.

That was great, but how can I shell a hallow object giving it a specific wall thickness?

Justin can you make a video on how to make a 2 piece mold in SketchUp using an imported 3D part or a 3D part designed in SketchUp. I would like to design or import a 3D part then 3D print a two piece mold so that I can cast additional copies of my part. Thanks

Great Video Justin - do you know of a free plugin that does the same job as the Sketchup Solid Tools for us non-Pro users?

thank you so much Justin, your videos very useful, it is help me to learn more about Sketchup. I want to ask, how can I use Brick tool on cylinder or on twisted wall to make complex brick building?
@Thesketchupessentials6 жыл бұрын
I'm confused by your question. There isn't a brick tool in SketchUp - you'd create your geometry, then apply a brick material to the face. Are you having issues with creating the geometry itself?

When I use the TRIM or the SPLIT, it works well only once, if I try to do more trimming in the same object is not a solid anymore and I don't know how to turn it into a solid again!
@Thesketchupessentials6 жыл бұрын
If you're having problems with that, you may want to think about creating a copy of your object and performing the trim operation on the copy so that you have your solid original in case you need it. I am a bit confused though - solid tools shouldn't take an object and make it non-solid - that's actually the opposite of what those tools are supposed to do...

I use eneroth solid tools. I make alot mechanical parts in SU and i moatly use subtract as my go to tool. I can drill holes and slots at any angle with no issues. Question, what do you mean by the word manifold? Thanks

Can I please get the sketchup solid tool plugin

If I were to rate difficulty of this tool I would say intermediate. Because it would take the average person a longer amount of time to get acclimatised to each sub-tool and where it can be used. I'm looking forward to hearing where ppl are using it.
@Thesketchupessentials6 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I found it very easy to use, but I could see where finding the right application for it might be an intermediate type problem. I'd like to hear ways that people are using the tools as well. Thanks!

great! but how to subtract complex group to another complex group? so not for one solid group but edited shape group if u know what i mean
@Thesketchupessentials4 жыл бұрын
Well unless you can make it solid you'd probably have to intersect them manually...

Are you still on the pro trial? When you first install the desktop version, you get a 30 day trial of SketchUp Pro no matter what, so it may be that

I am currently working on a somewhat complex model and using Solid Tools for SketchUp Pro 2018. I am having issues using the tools in that the time it is taking my laptop to process a Solid Tools command (e.g. the trim command) takes well over an hour. I purge everything regularly to ensure max performance, and have recently restarted my laptop with nothing else but SketchUp running. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro with the mid-level processor and a good amount of storage available. What can I do to effectively address this issue?
@Thesketchupessentials6 жыл бұрын
Hard to tell - depending on the complexity of your model and what you're doing, it may just take a long time. However, maybe try putting as much geometry as you can that's not affected by the Solid Tools action on its own layer and turning it off - this would give SketchUp less geometry to deal with. Otherwise, it's hard to tell without seeing exactly what you're trying to do. Thanks!

TheSketchUpEssentials Yeah, I already have layers set up and the unnecessary components and layers turned off while doing this. Since it looks like you’re on here right now I thought I’d send a couple more questions your way. (I have a background in CAD (though somewhat dated) and am still getting familiar with SketchUp.) Anyway, is there a way to select all of the line segments of a circle/oval/arc (with no face) at the same time but without dragging the cursor? (In other words, a ‘left-to-right’ or ‘right-to-left’ rectangular selection is not an option in this case.) The ovals that I’m needing to get rid of have roughly 250 lines segments in each one. I am a returning Masters student and am needing to have this portion of my model completed by tomorrow. Given my time constraints, I was wondering if I could email you a couple screenshots of my model to give you an idea of what I’m needing to do accomplish this and find the best way to save time.
