I so enjoy your channel and videos. When you mentioned that upgrading from a small camera to a larger, more expensive one won't make you a better story teller, it reminded me of a story I heard many years ago. I think it fits here. Supposedly it's a true story about a gathering of writers, artists, photographers, etc. A writer and photographer were talking and the writer told the photographer that she really thinks his pictures are fantastic and that he obviously must have an expensive camera. The photographer returned the "compliment" by telling the writer that he's read and loves her work and clearly, she must have a great typewriter!!

You have the luxury of making movies full time as a sustainable source of income. That's freakin'' amazing, and I'm very glad that you get to share. I'm at the level of a weekly KZbin post about what I'm doing, or trying to do, and I have a few hours that I can carve out, sometimes even less than an hour for shooting, editing and making it somewhat shiny in post. It's only me, and things like work and life responsibilities take up a lot of time. I did have a pretty big heyday with indie production and had a physical shared studio space and some freakin' amazing people that are still friends that would love to play, but it wasn't sustainable. I *really* want to be able to play with my friends again, but it's not in the cards anymore.

Hi Kent, just wanted to say great video and I am saving up right now to buy a starter camera to make more passion projects. Based on this video I am definitely thinking of getting the Sony ZV-1 as a starter. I would really appreciate a video like you said of you showing the camera off!
@magic.marmot7 күн бұрын
I love the ZV-1. I started with an RX100 Mark VI, until it died. The ZV-1 has an external mic jack which was a game changer, until mine developed some crankiness with unexpected shutoffs and batter door sensitivity, and got a second one that I don't like as much because of audio trim, but now I get to have an A/B cam if I need it. Not a big fan of the OIS. Handheld stuff get's pretty shaky (because I'm old and yell at clouds and stuff). I have a go bag that's a decently small backpack where I can be fully set up to shoot in less than 60 seconds, and that's pretty amazing.
@adventurefilmclub25494 ай бұрын
I'd definitely still recommend the BMPCC OG as a great 'dive in for cheap and start making films' over the ZV1. Yeah battery life is pap and you need some kinda stability added, but raw recording straight to sd card, and that image baby!

Still got mine. Never selling it. Used it for my first feature film that brought unexpected earnings in festivals. It's a beast when rigged for the operator.

Thanks for this. I’m an aspiring film maker myself and I want to start learning how to get into making actual short films. My ultimate dream is to be a director/producer for Hollywood movies, but that’s gonna take some time as I’m currently working on getting my film degree at college first. Really enjoyed your “Will the Machine” film. Great work man.

Yay! Original ZV-1 is great! (I have one.) What's so great with this camera is the weight & size, plus internal ND filter (for me, anyway.) When you're alone, and trying to shoot some action scenes on rooftop, you know what I mean. You don't want to climb up & down on ladder with expensive+big, heavy fully rigged up camera. I could literally run and jump around with ZV-1 (with top handle) on the rooftop!

The delay being shown on the hollyland monitor is actually relatively impressive. We should be looking at the delay from the wired monitor to the iPad, rather than the delay from the camera to the iPad (specifically in this scenario) because Panasonic’s cameras have always had a bit of a delay over HDMI which is talked about in Gerald Undone’s videos. Sorry I didn’t mean for this to come off as “you’re wrong lol let me correct you” but I didn’t want people to not get the pyro set because from what I’ve heard (I haven’t used them) they seem to be a very good combo set for wireless transmission

Ohh also, I shoot videos as my day job at an agency. A monitor for the account manager (acting director on set) would be really cool so they could see the take on the fly and then we shouldn't have to show them after the recording. Do you have a recommendation for something relatively cheap wireless solution? The Hollyland Pyro is good or is there something more basic (small agency, tight budget 😀)?

I only take free stuff I’d consider buying anyway, and of all these the monitor is the only one I actually agreed to feature in a video. If it sucked id just say so, but IMO the wireless latency is the only issue
@a_ram4 ай бұрын
@@StandardStoryCo Hi, Kent! Aram from the Wrapped in 30 here. Maybe you know it already, but part of the latency is a problem with Panasonic cameras. If you do the classic claps to visually synch and do not transfer sound through the hdmi (it's an option on the hdmi menu in the camera) the latency is reduced quite a bit. I have never measured it with sound, but without sound it was about 4 frames on my S5.
