Bonkers seeing on bike footage. The speed is very impressive. I reckon as said below it would be a laugh to have a bunch of mates give you a massive tow in to see if you could get closer to TP. Be fun to see folk burying themselves with you and good to see if it makes much difference on a climb.

@edlaverack7 ай бұрын
I reckon a few could beat Tom but It would be awesome to see others try :) To go sub 24 I think I just need another 2years of chipping away, or a better weather day, if we are talking about me improving my time solo. At this level it is literally seconds of improvement.

@edlaverack6 ай бұрын
I didn’t need to. The answer is “of course not!”🙈But because of the speed Tom was doing up there the watts required are actually nuclear. We can make an educated guess that I’d last roughly half way (12min at 420w, 7wkg) and just about be still with Tom. But then I’d blow.

Just echoing what I said above - I've heard all sorts of stories from the locals on the island, but at the end of the day these guys are training to hold on to the best climbers in the world. I'd argue if it was motorpaced/team paced then it's all part of training now to match the likes of Pog/Jonas.

quite sure you could make your bike and kit a bit more optimised for the segment, but that'd still be marginal, and probably wouldn't help to gain. Hats off to Tom he did his PB in Dec. Was or wasn't he paced up the hill I guess that's irrelevant to your personal PB. Great effort nevertheless! It's funny when one wants to hit sub-30 on that climb, another person thinks of sub-24. haha!

If getting the KOM is that important, why not drive there, warm up on a turbo and hit it totally fresh. Riding for 2.5 hrs before even getting to Sa Colabra must surely put some fatigue into body even if taking it easy.
@edlaverack7 ай бұрын
If I did that I wouldn't hear the end of it haha, everyone knows that riding there and then doing it is the unwritten rule!! The KOM isn't important, what is important is the PB :) Besides, 2.5hr at Z1 is very easy, performing an effort like this for me after a few hours like that is normal.
@stevedouglas39757 ай бұрын
@@edlaverack Absolutely agree, it wouldn't be the done thing but you know better than most people that this happens all the time with people going for KOMs. Have to say when I rode Sa Colobra last year just getting there nearly wiped me out(!). Power meter readings from Pidcock and you make zero sense. You did 0.15 w/kg more and gained only a handful of seconds and pidcock did 0.3 more than you and gained a minute and a half?! No way. Either his power meter is way under-reading, your's is way over-reading or Pidcock was motorpaced up the climb. Even with the wind in mind, his time is INSANE for the exact same wattage between you two.

He had the Ineos team leading him up the climb... There's the difference.
@edlaverack7 ай бұрын
It's highly likely that the power meters read differently. I can only speak for the accuracy of mine over the years and my previous performances. Tom will be maybe 2kg lighter than me but chances are my bike is 0.5kg lighter. The time difference is massive considering the relative efforts, I can't see myself ever going that speed up that climb ever.
@ThisIsANameBruh7 ай бұрын
@@edlaverack that's the thing. If we start believing that power meters can read so completely wrong then idk man, what are we even using them for? I guess consistency is what really matters not absolute values but still... And Shimano meters have been known to exaggerate, not under-read which I assume is the case for pidcock. But difference is still too massive. I'm forced to assume he was paced
