@@lvfreeAdventures i tried to get a permit and was denied... Thank you for your application to the Civic Events office for permission for a drone flight on City property. So we do not permit recreational drone flights on City of Edmonton property. I've pasted a blurb below for your reference. The City of Edmonton’s Parkland Bylaw (2202) governs the activities of people on parkland in order to promote the safe, enjoyable and reasonable use of such property and to protect and preserve natural ecosystems for the benefit of all citizens of the City. Part of this bylaw states that while on parkland no person shall operate a model aircraft, rocket or other power assisted flying model, which would include the use of drones. Permits can be issued for drone flights on City property, including parkland; however these drone flight permissions are currently only available for commercial film and commercial photography projects and productions. Recreational drone flights are not permitted on City property. Recreational drone flights can take-off and land on private property, such as your backyard, or another private property with permission from the property owner. All drone flights must adhere to Transport Canada regulations. The information below is from this link. All drone pilots must follow the rules in the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). Part IX - Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems contains most of the rules that apply to drones up to 25 kilograms. You should read these regulations in full before you fly your drone for the first time. To keep yourself and others safe, fly your drone: where you can see it at all times below 122 metres (400 feet) in the air away from bystanders, at a minimum horizontal distance of 30 metres for basic operations away from emergency operations and advertised events Avoid forest fires, outdoor concerts and parades away from airports and heliports. The drone must stay at least 5.6 kilometres (3 nautical miles) away from airports and 1.9 kilometres (1 nautical mile) from heliports outside controlled airspace (for basic operations only) and far away from other aircraft. Don’t fly anywhere near airplanes, helicopters and other drones. Should you require a permit to operate a drone launching from a public space for commercial film and commercial photography projects and productions, then you can complete the online application form and we would work with you to issue a permit.

@@AeroQuestAerials That's not what it says last time I checked, a little over a month ago. Without permit, it's not legal to take off, or land, on city / government property. However, you are allowed to take off from private property and fly over public/city property. The only thing this pilot would have to be wary off is height restrictions because of Heli-pads / news / emergency helicopters, which the local max altitude was not broken in any of these clips. Remember, most rules are introduced because of a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone. Unless people are hovering outside office building windows or chasing people around in the parks, almost all drone points are just nerdy ppl who are also into photo/videogrophy - and as such, are polite, considerate and keep to them selves. Your comment is from 8 months ago so maybe this change happened after you left the comment? I am not sure, but so far, everyone is okay in this flight iirc.

Because it's expensive and unnecessary, there is a lot of history in that downtown.they and I have no want to change Edmonton, and it's downtown. It's not Toronto or Chicago....... it's Edmonton.

@@slothfratelli5546 if we don't change, which people refuse to change, then this is why our country, our city are failing. Other cities are improving, the only way to improve and compete with the world is to change and improve. Refuse to realize it or change, leads to... just a look at canada and edmonton now compared to the outside world. You cannot just ignore what is happening outside in reality. We live in a city, not in a village.

@chrthewrestler2301 it's valid your concern. Edmonton, in turn, has a huge amount of things going for it. Trying to out skyscraper other cities is not going to make us succeed, but highlighting Edmontons strengths is. Our history our nature and our people where they have been and how we strive for an awesome future. The fact that Edmonton is an actual human-made ecosystem where animals live with us in a unique ballance. It's a city that is both old a new
