As someone who spent a lot of time on Newgrounds during their teenage years, I've got a lot of respect for Edmund McMillen. That place, in that time, was lightning in a bottle (gross, immature, edgy lightning, but lightning nonetheless), and he was an invaluable part of that ecosystem. Edmund, I don't know if you'll read this, but never stop being you.

I have never been so engrossed watching a developer interview. 90% of the time it's VERY clear that everyone is aware of the industry they're in and that what they're doing currently is simply dressed up advertising. I got some of that from Jack with the few overly-inclusive topic changes but every time Edmund talked it felt like watching someone open up, it was incredibly real and personal, it was super informative for any creatives out there, and I'm definitely glad I tuned in. Gonna spend the next few days checking his stuff out. Also that last point hit a little harder than it probably should have. Thanks for that.

I really hope a lot, i mean, we pretty much know what's gonna be in the DLC, because, well, it's basically antibirth+, and if they only added antibirth it would have been awesome, but they are adding so much more and he saying that just confirms that this is gonna be pretty massive

Here's the deal with Isaac: the game has obviously grown a lot over the years. Vanilla Isaac was without any doubt a great game, but all the additional mechanics and content and little stuff here and there - it made the game elevate on a whole other level. The Binding of Isaac is imho one of the best games ever, and it's the small stuff that makes it so good. When I heard they're fixing a bunch of stuff, like making old items synergize better and create new weird effects, I was pogging out of my gourd. There's something incredibly satisfying for me in seeing these tiny details in videogames, like if you're this specific character and only them, this item now has that effect. Someone hand-coded that shit. There's always this sense of discovery in Isaac, this excitement, "does this item work with this one and what would it look like?" And the fact that they're adding as much of it as possible, fixing old stuff and making the game even better, it's just amazing. We have too few developers who are both big and decent, and every time I witness something like this, people genuinely creating something entertaining and carrying a powerful message, it gives me so much faith in humanity. Can't wait for Pépéntance.

I like Edmund but the Legend of Bumbo is in no way shape or form a deck building game and it doesn't contain any deck building game mechanics.
@kentmiller8083 жыл бұрын
Don’t you move through different floors collecting and discarding spells (cards)? Like there’s a shop and you can choose different actives and passive spells but only have so much space.
@umlammy3 жыл бұрын
@@kentmiller808 Yes and these "cards" don't behave as cards in anyway. It's just picking power ups for a slot. Using card game terminology to describe other things doesn't magically make it behave in anyway like a card game. It's like if FTL started calling all its weapons cards and if you remove them you "discard" them, it doesn't suddenly become a card game.
@kentmiller8083 жыл бұрын
@@umlammy they weren’t saying that it’s literally a deck builder, but it uses similar principles. You have abilities (spells, cards, etc), with associated mana costs, they are randomly obtained so each run you will have a different “deck”, and part of the game is managing your limited number of slots, forcing you to decide between keeping and removing certain spells, similar to other deck builders. Sure it lacks the random element of drawing your cards, and part of deck builders is deciding how to keep your deck a decent size, which bumbo also lacks. But I think it’s fair to say the game has deck building elements.
@umlammy3 жыл бұрын
That's like saying it has deckbuilding elements because like in a deckbuilding game you can win.
