It's so easy for us to sit here in our warm homes, soft beds, food and drink within easy reach and say "No don't eat it" or "I would never eat it". I've never in my life known true hunger let alone actual starvation so I have no idea what I may or may not actually do to stay alive. None of us can know for sure until we are in that situation.

I just finished Eduardo Strauch's book, "into the Silence: After the Crash" and I have to say I have a newfound respect and love for these men. I'm just starting Nando Parrados, and I have already read Roberto Canessa's and Coche Inciarte's. The different prisms each man experienced is fascinating, and heartbreaking. Coche could only think of his mother who he believed was missing him dearly. Just the year before the crash, Coche had lost his dad to Cancer. All he could think of was getting home to his mother so she wouldn't have to lose him. Eduardo was very spiritual and I have to say out of all of them so far, his book was gutting. After I am done Nando's, I have the book this film was taken from, Pablo Vierci's "Society of the Snow." I'm going to be getting the book "To Play the Game" by John Guiver. His approach is to focus on the dead while Vierci's is the 16 who survived.

girl?? have you ever spent a week in the cold, injured, surrounded by dead people and with no prospect of being rescued? It's very easy to talk on a full stomach. You speak as if going a week without eating is easy. I believe there are moments when we need to think a little and put ourselves in someone else's shoes. No one wanted to eat human flesh for pleasure; they were starving. If you wouldn't have the will to survive, that's fine, but you can't project your lack of will onto others. They wanted to live and did what was necessary for that. And you don't have to like it; you didn't go through what they did. Also, It is shown in the movie that they ate everything to try to survive, even things that are not edible. And you still talk as if that was their first choice? And I didn't understand why you guys told the others so much to stop insisting on Numa eating as if he wouldn't literally die of hunger if he didn't eat. They didn't force him to do anything, they just tried to make him survive.

I almost died from hypothermia when I was 18, in middle of December in sweden. I still get nightmares about it a decade later, you can't explain how it feels. You're paralyzed, can't think of anything other than wishing you were warm, your brain doesn't work properly. If it weren't for two nurses finding me in the morning I would have died. Now I hate the feeling of cold, it's terrifying. For context, a Night Club kicked me out with only a shirt and no phone when It was like -12c, I only remember sitting at a table drinking then I was standing in a parking lot somewhere I've never been not comprehending what happened. I apparently walked for miles trying to get home but went the wrong direction and then gave up..

Miraculously, they declared him dying and he was left near the hole, where it was coldest and that reduced the inflammation and saved his life. There was never EVER a thought in their minds of doing anything to Liliana. She became an angel, or sorts to them. She nursed their wounds and was their "mother in the mountain." They all respected Liliana, even making sure she had someplace more private in order to do her business. I would have expect some amount of maturity from people some 52 years later after the actual event, and to at least have some amount of respect for these boys. They were all good Catholic boys who belonged to good homes with loving families. They were not depraved morons who would judge others. One thing you have to understand about these boys. None of them did anything individually. All of it was done as a SOCIETY, a SOCIETY OF THE SNOW. Each of them played a part in their rescue. Yes, Nando and Roberto made that 10 day walk to civilization, but the support and trust the other 14 had in them cannot be ignored. The ones who died gave their support in offering their bodies for sustenance. Without all of them, none of them would have survived.

There is cgi. If you watch the making of on Netflix, Bayona does explain how some of the shots were accomplished. For instance, where you see the fuselage in the mountain, that footage was filmed in Italy. The background was composited in as it was shot on location in the Valley of Tears in Uruguay. The crash was done on a rig with the actors composited into the frame. The place flying over the cordillera was cgi. The shots of Nando and Roberto's was composited shots as well as practical. On location in Italy, they had three sets, two at a studio, the other was a full size fuselage up in the mountains and they used The Volume technology The Mandalorian used to rear project the Valley of Tears behind it.

Eating snow is not a good idea. I already knew a little about this but according to some quick google research, snow makes you more dehydrated because your body uses too much energy to melt the snow, not to mention it takes away more body heat which is more important than thirst. So if you ever get stranded somewhere snowy, eating snow is not a good idea. It just makes you more dehydrated. They're also in the mountains during winter. There are no animals, no bugs, no good sources of water. And even tho you can technically survive 3 weeks without food, you'll go insane before then. Im not surprised cannibalism was brought up pretty early. Plus, everyone can say they'd never do that but I guess you'd never know until your actual survival instincts kick in when put in that situation. Either way, such a sad and terrible story but I hear its a very good depiction of what actually happened in real life Edit: Also not sure if its okay to melt snow and then drink it? Maybe boil it like you would dirty water or whatever. If anyone knows whether thats okay please let me know. I've been wondering forever lol
@lunacouerАй бұрын
It's ok to melt snow to drink! Where they were, the snow's about as pure as it gets (especially compared to today), so any untouched top snow would've been perfect. Like you said, you'd burn more energy melting the snow internally than if you'd tried melting it before drinking it. However, it seems that it takes awhile for dehydration from that to overtake you. Like you said, the hypothermia would be the immediate threat. Eating a handful of fresh snow like they initially did isn't necessarily harmful - it's just that it's not sustainable long-term. Best to get it melted first (preferably slightly warm). I agree with so much of what you said. People can't know what they'd do unless they were in that situation, _especially_ not from the comfort of a warm home with a stocked pantry. What a lot of us are fortunate enough to not know is exactly how _painful_ acute starvation can be. The way body processes and organs begin to shut down can just plain hurt. Combine that with the mood disturbances that happen early on and yeah, it's gonna get brought up when your body is dying and therefore driving you to consider it.
@marbella135Ай бұрын
Yes if there is no other option snow should def be boiled first.. also eating snow can cause burns in your mouth and throat. That’s why Fitto melted the snow with the metal piece and sunlight, since they couldn’t build a fire due to the altitude and fear of the plane kerosene been spread everywhere.
@lauraguerra6450Ай бұрын
Nando and the rest of the survivors have described that the snow, even if melted to drink (as they did) is not the best because is distilled water, meaning it has no minerals… so you actually lose minerals in your body so you are alive but weaker and weaker… with a debilitated immune system. That’s why Numa and the other 2 died: they ate and drink water but their bodies couldn’t get any benefits from it, as their immune system could no longer fight infection. So… you may melt snow and drink it but it won’t give you what water gives us and it will keep you alive but not healthy.

@michwrites what are you talking about? I am not talking about the reactors, but about the actual survivors' accounts in interviews. I recommend everyone watches those, I have no idea why you had to say an unrelated thing tbh

Thanks for reacting to this movie, especially in the og language as a latino myself i appreciate reactors like yall 🙏🏼 edit: i just wish yall were a little more open minded and just mindful, period. This is based off of a true story and they actually did great justice to the victims and survivors. Not everyone would just give up on their lives so easily, us humans are built with great resilience and determination. These people fought everyday to return to their lives, even the ones who couldn't make it home, they played a role. Obviously we cannot imagine eating bodies, but to judge those who are fighting against starving and freezing to death for doing the unimaginable so harshly is just cruel. I tried getting over it but yall especially the girl were so judgmental it got very annoying.

Funny enough, I have seen some interviews and some of the survivors even though they remember everything pretty clear, they don't have ptsd, and that is really interesting because you would think they will definitely do.

I could actually understand eating a dead body if that's what you had to do to survive. No one could judge when that is your only means of staying alive. I mean humans are animals and we eat animals, so it's not like we're inedible 😂

As positive feedback, and whatevs you may say what this guy is on, I find it distracting that you seem to have a second monitor (probably your camera) and you are gazing at it sometimes even more than the movie. The reason its distracting is because it signals there is something else going on in your mind instead of letting yourself into the movie. It pretty much feels like talking to someone that is constantly on their phone or looking elsewhere.

No, claro que no abrazaban a los cadáveres. Era la forma más segura de perder calor. Lo que dicen es que aquella noche estuvieron juntos vivos y muertos.
@ailem2707Ай бұрын
