I just got the F701 and at first I did not like writing with it as much but as I write more with hit, I enjoy it more and more. It is different than say a Parker Jotter so you have to get use to it.

Great video! As a former journalist (now in marketing and PR) I'm a bit of a pen "nerd" myself and can really tell the difference in a good writing instrument. I have been really interested in the X701. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I've been using both pens and I have to say that my preference right now is the F-701 stainless steel pen. I feel that it writes a little smoother than the X701. I’ve never tried the X701. Since I work construction I really like the F701 though. It’s really solid. After this I’ll most likely pick up a x701 just to try it out though. Thanks for the review.

The X701 is a great choice if you work construction....it's a super durable pen and you can use it when it's upside down as well. Let me know if you end up getting it...it'd be great to hear your feedback!

I take the F701 and replace the ink cartridge with a fischer space pen refill and it's my most favorite pen I also love the X701 as well

I use a zebra f701 with a fisher spr1b ink in it. Had to mod the pen slightly.

Put a Fisher Space Pen refill in the 701 of you like it better. Drops right in. No modifications needed.

Looks like the plug seal for the filler in the pen is missing. The replacements look correct.

it is a cool pen and I own 2 of them, but it's not at all special to say "Military Grade Certified", that's one of those marketing terms that may or may not mean much. Thank you for making the video.

You're welcome and I'm with you on the Military Grade certification....it's a pretty cool to say you have something Military Grade :) I believe one of the reasons why it's military grade is because its matte black and non-reflective. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!

I just recently got the Z-701 and changed the refill to a fisher space pen 🖊 refill and love it. It’s cheap and seems to be super sturdy. I don’t think the steel is as thick as it seems, I’m not 100% sure but I think it has a plastic insert thru out the barrel of the pen. I could be wrong

Ed Tchoi The cap/tip threads directly onto the plastic insert so eventually the threads will wear out. I know there’s a hack floating on the internet showing you how to replace the plastic insert with a metal one but honestly it’s quite involved. Your best bet for a long lasting pen is to replace the ink refill with a fisher space pen refill since they tend to last a mighty long time. Avoid screwing and unscrewing the tip as much as you can especially be careful not to strip or miss thread the tip back on.

@@socalsreelbasster4476 Thanks. Alternatively, I really do like the design and build of the F-701 as it feels way more robust. It's not pressurized like the X-701, but I was pretty impressed on how well it wrote when I was using the pen upright (on an easel pad on the wall). Hopefully Zebra can apply the same design principles on the X-701 to make it truly "extreme". Appreciate your feedback!

How is the long term use of the x701. I was wondering as the plunger and the tip looks plasticky compared to the f301.

I put a fisher refill in my f701 with a little modified its perfect.the refill on the x7 sucks it stops and starts when writing.only problem with it.i wish i could put a fisher refill in it.

Thanks....I haven't tried putting in a fisher refill in the F701...I'll have to give it a try, and agreed that it would be great if you could put a fisher refill on the X701 as well. Out of curiosity, did you find that your X701 blotted ink when writing? This happens to me once in a while.

Do you know whether the 'Pilot Dr Grip Center of Gravity' pen refills come in pressurized refills? or whether certain other brand pressure refills are compatible with the Dr Grip Center of Gravity?

It doesn't look like the Pilot Dr Grip Center of Gravity has a pressurized ink cartridge. I would doubt that there would be a compatible pressurized refill cartridge for this pen

WRONG! The X701 does NOT have a pressurized BARREL. It has a pressurized REFILL. A pressurized BARREL would serve NO USEFUL PURPOSE!

I have and use the F701, and X701. The F series is nice because it's cheap and rugged. Basic design allows you to modify it. X701 is a bit gimmicky and I wish that it had more stainless steel components for the price. X701 doesn't feel like a military grade pen at all. Not after I have daily carried a Gerber Impromtu for 2 years.

@@Kgoutdoor Yes you can. The X701 takes a very small Zebra refill and tries to get Fischer Space pen performance using their plastic refill. But the F701 can take other refills. Check out the modding community for it for a list of refills that work.
