Glad you followed the Japanese decree in 1938 that stated " the Hinomaru shall remain pure of all blemishes" also the accurate primer used. My grandfather was a maintainer for japan during early days of the war when they were based in Thailand. You're the only modeller ive seen that actually builds IJA and IJN aircraft. accurately.

Oh wow that is incredibly interesting!! I definitely did quite a lot of research into this one so i’m glad it paid off! Thanks for the kind words😁

@machmodels before he passed a few years ago he used to tell me about his life during the war. Japanese had a bomber base and fighter base here and they bombed China During the flying tiger days. Also not many people know Thailand had a war against France during WW2 in 1940. He used to say they painted the Hinomaru every day. If there was stains or chips they were punished. One critique is possibly overkill on paint chipping. Depending on when the model is depicted. Japan had some of the best paint of all nations during ww2 up until September 1943 when an 7.0 earthquake destroyed the main plant. After that multiple manufacturers made paint which was lower quality.

What incredible knowledge! Thank you so much for sharing all of this, if I ever do another Japanese aircraft I’ll be sure to reference this comment! If i’m being honest I must agree that the chipping went a little overboard… it was just so satisfying!! Thanks again😁

@machmodels my father builds models for the local air force museum so I understand what you mean when you say you do research haha.
@joey_ramone_96 Жыл бұрын
it'd be accurate to chip it too, as there historical photos of japanese planes with some chipping on the hinomaru, thus plenty of people build them accurately, are you the guy who was going all over modeller's videos saying their models were awful because they chip the hinomaru? I remember you.

Very nice, that redish color really gives the chipping depth and character. There really is something special about floatplanes.

Thank you! That was the plan to add another dimension to the chips as sometimes they look a little too boring with just the bold aluminium shining through😁

Pretty awsome build. The chipping and the overall paint job, really like what you did with damage stencil decals, scary to watch, but the effect was very convincing. I have a motorized Tamiya version of this aircraft havent built it yet. Since its motorized i want to display taking off or touching down so im researching the water effects (splash or wave) and what it looked like. Anyway great looking build congratulations.

Interesting thing to note, when chipping with hairspray/chipping fluid, you actually don’t need to be fast, it’s a myth. Your paint chips slightly easier when it’s only been put down for a short time but I’ve done chipping hours later with no bad results.
