Education Presentation by Alan Kay @ SRI/Engelbart

Thank you for this one. Since KZbin started, I have been a regular visitor of recordings of Doug Engelbart, Alan Kay, Ted Nelson, and others. I never cease to be amazed at how good Alan Kay is at putting forward his thoughts and ideas. Whenever I start listening, I have to continue it through to the end, as with this talk. I'm wondering what the date was of this talk. Google/KZbin seems to be doing a wonderfully abysmal job of providing a proper URL linking to archive.org.

I tried looking for the original date, but I couldn't find it. I must have found it searching on archive.org. Originally, it was posted at: www.sri.com/engvideos/ I believe the site has new ownership and took down the videos. I uploaded it to KZbin to help people find it since it can be easily overlooked on archive.org

Hi, thanks! The weird thing about the partial URL visible in your upload comment is that it completely disappears when you copy the link or click on it. But from what is visible - "Original file: web.archive.org/web/2012011304..." I am assuming that the "20120113" represents the date, ie. 13 Jan 2012. Alan Kay does mention that the current moment is 40 years later than the DE Mother of all Demos. Strictly speaking this would make the current moment 2008, but I don't think he is using that reference in a particularly precise way. Anyway, thanks again!

KZbin does weird things with the URL. The original URL is: "www.sri.com/ engvideos/ kay.mov" (without the spaces). 2012 is the date Archive.org saved the file. So 2008 would be more accurate for the recording of Alan on stage. Also, Alan Kay was wearing the same style of cloths in other presentations around 2008-2013. So let's go with 2008.
