It's extremely difficult for people who have a skill to remember and understand what it's like for someone who does not have that skill. There are a TON of different weapons and abilities in Overwatch and jumping in and trying to learn even if you are familiar with shooters it is very overwhelming at first.
@Real_MisterSir Жыл бұрын
The thing about climbing from low ranks, is that it tends to favor heroes that benefit from a change of mind, rather than a change of mechanics. Chances are if you're stuck in silver for months in a row, you are not exactly god's gift as a mechanically skilled gfuel predator. So if you base your climb on a hero whose effective playstyles either demand teamwork or high individual mechanics, then you have to improve at an exponentially higher rate than everyone else in your rank - which is extremely difficult to do when it comes to improving mechanically. It's one of those things that just takes time. So instead, the better option is to pick out heroes who can achieve high value not from mechanics, but rather from switching your playstyle and general mindset about how the game functions - and here some degree of coaching or educational content can help as a catalyst to make those changes more obvious, so you don't have to figure everything out on your own in regards to what works and what doesn't. It could be that you just instalock Moira and become an enemy backline dps god who simply learns to time their engages and understand when to go offensive, and when to chill back. This doesn't take mechanical skill, it takes intellect - and even if you lack some base understanding, at least you are more than likely to possess the intellect to learn from others who have mastered these playstyles and know how to teach them. Here you can acquire skill at an exponential rate with far more likely success rate, than if you were to focus just on mechanics. The only case mechanical heroes should be your go-to, is if you are already mechanically skilled and it's simply your 2head strats and playstyle that is sending you face first into a meatgrinder every teamfight, but more often than not good mechanical skill, even with dog playstyle, will get most people to plat fairly consistently.
@NanoMp40 Жыл бұрын
Which heroes would you use as examples?
@Real_MisterSir Жыл бұрын
@@NanoMp40 Some go-to examples: Tank: Sigma / Orisa / Winston DPS: Junkrat / Pharah / Mei Support: Moira / Brig / Moira (yes) In Overwatch, everything that matters in the end is improving your ability to see mistakes from the enemy, as well as your own. And your mechanics are going to be the leverage that defines how far you can push your ability to punish those mistakes. The heroes I highlighted excel at having high potential to punish, with minimal mechanics required to reach above-average leverage, hence why they are most consistently rewarding your efforts. It doesn't mean they're easy to play, it just means their potential is accessed differently than many other heroes that rely more on mechanical brute force methods. Playstyle is all that is needed to unlock their potential, but most players don't actually seek to improve their playstyle, they try to bruteforce their subpar method, typically by thinking mechanics is the only way to overcompensate for their lack of understanding the game.

About aiming advice, there really is only so much you can teach someone about aiming in PC games. While Overwatch has some hero specific tips that are useful, I find the most solid and long lasting advice you can give someone is just to learn the fundamentals of aiming (crosshair placement, reaction gaps ((even though reaction gaps don't apply to Overwatch as much as some other games)) etc.) and, in most cases, LOWER YOUR SENSITIVITY! More people than I can count on both hands have fought me when I tried to help, telling me their sensitivity was fine while it looks like Michael J. Fox was controlling their mouse, only to later lower their sens and then tell me "you were right! this feels so much better!"
@Koreley Жыл бұрын
The thing about aim, is that it's more about muscle memory than theory. You just have to put in the time, in anyway possible, to make your aim be consistent, both without and with your movement. I personally like the approach of building consistency in aimlabs first, to have a baseline for your aim, and then move on to overwatch directly, and learn to apply your muscle memory to moving aswell. Aimlabs helps build consistency regardless of if you move or not, but of course, you'll feel weird moving around and aiming with aimlabs aim in OW. Most people just have to learn to understand how much of their screen they move with their mouse to begin with.
@shadynasty2125 Жыл бұрын
@@Koreley That's exactly why you can only teach someone so much. It's far more about playing the game and developing that muscle memory. There is no tip, secret or method that can make you good at aiming in a very short amount of time, which I see a lot of people trying to find. It's about being willing to put in the time more than anything else.
@brown9671 Жыл бұрын
I tell them to lower their sense and then once they do they say “it feels slow” yeahhhh obviously because it’s slow to what you used before. I lower my sens everytime it starts feeling “fast” just dropped it to 4.5 800dpi feels great. There’s no reason you should be in the double digits at 800 dpi
@brown9671 Жыл бұрын
@@Koreleyif you mean muscle memory in general I agree, but I think muscle memory at a certain sense is bogus. If you change you sense from 5 to 5.2 you should still hit the same amount of shots. And the fundamentals are still extremely important, which if you teach can actually improve someone’s aim very quickly
@Koreley Жыл бұрын
@@brown9671 There is something to be said about how precise you can get with really fast speeds, there's physical limitations in our muscles that DO make it very hard to be precise the faster you go, but in general, unless you're above, say, 2000-3000 dpi, or below, say 800-400, you should be more than fine with any sense

4:27 i would say mimicking is fine so long as you learn while you are doing it. See what the difference is between what you normally do and what you can do there and what the benefits are. Mimicking good play can help you realize why its good. Thats how I worked on my ana. I watch ML7 and then I thought about what sightlines do I have. What protection. Can I be dove and if I am where are the health packs and where would another support play. Same with Dps. You see them playing high griund, why? Oh they can shoot over the tank easier. It makes tracking easier and people on low ground dont have the same amount of cover you have by simply walking backwards. Mimicking can be the first step in understanding.
@mentarium Жыл бұрын
i think that's what flats was trying to say though. he was saying not to blindly mimic, but to apply thought to your actions. what you explained was beyond just mimicking the actions. you won't learn if you copy pro play page by page. you learn by observing why the pros do what they do

I think the main reason why Pros (Not all Obv) aren't good at explaining, is because they have to speak generally to appeal to a wide range of ranks, but it may not apply to you and your specific rank and/or skills at the game. Yeah they can explain every mechanic of how to play a character, but if you can't do them yourself or understand why or when to use them, then you will still fail, not cause the Pro is bad and their information is bad, its just you can't use what they said because of your own skills at that time. But just cause YOU can't use the information, doesn't mean that NO ONE can, so again its not that the information is bad, its just you at that time can't use it. But they have to speak generally to appeal to more people especially in the realm of TikTok. So you can listen to them, just don't take it 100% and say that's the only way it is.

Spent 6 hours playing dps support yesterday. The fact that i was able to confidently jump a soldier and rail his man hole faster than his healing could save him while playing lifeweaver is just morally questionable. I was able to melt faster at a distance than that poor soldier. If he was in the team fight at all i would take high ground then use my platform to easily hop above him then drop down right next to him just to get 7 headshots and a kill confirm. I did that to him about 5 different times. Me and my other support duo ended that game both having 30+ kills. It was so funny. Playing dps support is arguably the funniest and most enjoyable thing to exist in overwatch. You won't change my mind and you won't be able to convince me to stop. Next game, get a lucio who’s flying along the walls practically playing a third dps, but we steamrolled that team. I also saw a healbot mercy that day with the slowest reaction times and awful decision making. Also the utility not being used isn’t even entirely true, as you can still use speed reactively to what your tank is doing. Also, he has good damage output if you use him correctly, and of all the otps I see Lucio is probably the most common in terms of how high they rose undeservedly

As a maths teacher i can tell you that because maths are a 2000+ year nested of theory and tradition, the answer is more often than not actually "just because". Or even more often its "because if you did it differently the answer would come out wrong" or "because it is faster" Sorry.
